I installed the new salt cell and everything seemed to be working fine. The system was making chlorine, the pool was looking great. About a week and a half after I put the new cell in, the pool started turning green. I checked the chlorine levels and free chlorine was zero. I have never seen a zero reading. The readout showed no salt on the instant read screen even though test strips showed around 3500 and the reading just a few days earlier showed the same. I reset everything by turning the power off and on, and it worked again for about a week. I suspected a control panel because this is the 5th salt cell I've replaced on my pool in the 20 years I've had it. They don't go bad like that. But less than a day after replacing the control panel, the salt cell did the same thing. I have to replace it, but I can't get refunded for this one. That is $700 down the drain for a bad part.

After a quote for nearly twice the price to replace our Hayward turbo cell, I decided to order and do it myself in 2016. It’s a very easy repair! Same cell at half the price! Win win! That cell lasted until this opening so almost 9 years! That’s pretty good longevity for a salt cell. I would recommend staying with the Hayward name brand product in order to achieve the water clarity and cleanliness and algae removal that you want in a salt cell. I know others who have purchased off brand cells at half the price. But they would last a year, maybe two.

We replaced our old cell with this one, and it’s been working great so far. It installed easily and immediately started generating chlorine without any issues. Our pool water has stayed clean and balanced since putting it in. It’s definitely not cheap, but you’re paying for the genuine Hayward quality—and in our experience, it’s worth it for the performance and longevity. Pros: • Easy install • Works right away • Keeps water clear and balanced • Genuine Hayward part Cons: • Expensive, but expected for OEM • Wish the lifespan were a bit longer for the price If you’ve got a Hayward system and want to keep things simple and reliable, this is a solid replacement.
