  • Improved greatly over the feet and flipper unit! Works out of the box but, it's not psychic.
Style: 4-Wheel
So let's talk about Wayward Hayward a bit. This is my third unit. The first two were the flipper style. The first one was excellent. Lasted three years. The second one, the "update" was a complete confused POS. We hated it from the start. This is the upgrade, with the new design of the trac rollers and the vacuum cleaner front. Verdict. First off, I don’t plastic parts are alive so, the performance isn't going to change. It comes assembled and ready to use out of the box. I LOVE that!! Think like the manufacturer! They have to make a product flexible enough for midsize to very large pools. 20 to 40 thousand gallon as the description says. Well, there's a huge difference in pump power! We have a 3500 per whaterver pump, which is for the 20,000 gallon. When I split the suction between the Main drain and this unit, it won’t climb. However, thinking about the design, I increased the suction to all unit and, it climbs perfectly. So, it "replaces" the main drain and that’s fine with me! They annoy me anyway. I leave them just open enough to compensate for a clog or a reduction in flow and Hayward climbs. I would assume with more power it could walk on water but, that's what to keep in mind. Vacuum power is key. It’s not magic. The unit has some hard turn mechanics inside to prevent going over and over in the same pattern. The two wheels can be randomized. Thus, I assume IF the randomization is too opposite, it would do circles and that would be bad. So, check to make sure the random tabs on the wheels are offset and if you're experiencing spinning in place or repeated patterns, decrease the randomizer distance. I didn’t have to. Mine's perfect out of the box. What do I notice different? Well, those stupid feet and flippers are gone. Major improvement. It's plastic in a chemical pool so, it's not a fine wine which will get better with age. Plan on replacement parts, probably yearly I'll guess, maybe two. Hayward put less material in the hose, which I find to be SMART! The other hose was too heavy and thick. The joints on the hose are more secure than the old design. There is a tool with this unit the other didn’t have. It’s a rubber suction gauge that fits into the skimmer hole. Worthy. Value for price paid is there because they all cost a lot. Don't let the kids ride it or the dog eat it and you should be fine. ... show more

  • This Pool Cleaner works! This Pool Cleaner works!
Style: 2-Wheel
The Pool Cleaner is great. After suffering through creepy crawly and numerous Navigators which constantly break down and twist the suction hose this is a welcome friend. It cleans both the deep end and shallow end. It does not twist the hose. It does not get stuck in one spot. Follow the directions for the number of wheel RPM. You may need to screw the floats up or down depending on your pool. I read one person he didn't like it because it looked like a John Deere tractor with its large wheels. I don't give a fig what it looks like. It works. Dial it in and forget about it. Your pool will never be cleaner. ... show more

  • Last one did a great job for 10 years
Style: 2-Wheel
This is my second Poolvergnuegen. The first one lasted 10 years with zero problems until it started just going in a tight half circle, stopping, and then doing another tight half circle. After some research I decided to replace the tires (the blue treads) but that didn't fix it. I saw myself starting to go down an expensive rabbit hole of replacing one part after another until I had more money in it that a new one would cost me. Since I was replacing the exact same cleaner I didn't have to mess around at all with the suction valves but I do remember it being fairly simply to adjust the Jandy valve to share the suction between the skimmer and the dedicated cleaner line. Seriously, I didn't touch this thing for 10 years. It ran for 8 hours a day for 10 years! Oh, and it does a very good job. It took almost a week for this one to show up so my pool bottom was getting a bit dirty. After one night it was clean. It doesn't go up my walls though. I have PebbleTek which is kind of slick so maybe that's it. The old one never did the walls either. So, once a week I just brush them which isn't a big deal because, unless there's been algae, they're very clean. Yes, this one is more expensive than some of the other popular name-brand cleaners. But, you get what you pay for and I think this one is well worth the extra money. ... show more

  • I can only recommend the 4-wheel version
Style: 4-Wheel
UPDATE: After owning this for 3 months here is what I learned. Overall it does a good job with no surprises. Regarding my Cons below, after setting the flow close to maximum and cleaning my filter, it now climbs walls. Even to the point of reaching the surface and sucking air. It never did this at their recommended speed (flow) setting. For the surface algae concern, I bought some small brush-style weather stripping and stuck short pieces to each of the flappers that drag the surface. I can't say if actually helps, but it should from theory. It's been on for over a month and is holding up fine and staying in place. Here's the link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BNQMZZCC?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1 ORIGINAL: I bought the 2-wheel version and ended up sending it back and purchased the 4-wheel one. The problem with the smaller one is it would rarely make it to the shallow end. My pool is a simple oval, medium sized at 15,000 gallons and 29 feet long. It's 8 feet deep and since not super long, maybe the slope is a little steep. Both cleaner versions stop and turn as part of normal operation, but the small one does this about 2x as often. It would be working it's way up the slope to the shallow end and stop and turn, then end up in the deep end again. Over and over. Turning is critical to operation since this cleaner will get stuck at a wall or step and bang into it until the turn comes. That's fine but the 2-wheel version just does it too frequently. The 4-wheel version makes it to the shallow end just fine and spends time more or less equally in all areas. With a 29 foot pool the hose with the small one was supposed to be plenty long - it was not and I had to add one segment just to get it to the farthest point. They give 2 more segments with the 4-wheel version and I used all. This gives a little extra so it still goes mostly to the end of the pool even when there is the inevitable loop in the floating hose. In general this style cleaner has some good, and some less than good points. Pro: It covers the pool bottom well without self-imposed keep out areas like the creepy disk type seem to have. It doesn't have that noisy bangbang valve to make it move like the creeping ones and is therefore not so sensitive to sucking in a leaf and getting jammed. I assume it will work just as well in cold water where my bangbang type stopped banging. Con: It doesn't climb walls or steps, not at all. Since it doesn't rub on the surface like the creeping disk type do, it doesn't mechanically stir up the surface algae. So far this hasn't been a problem but time will tell. Overall after a month of use I'm happy with it. The cost is way way higher than the cheap creepy type, but not so much more than the name brand ones. I've gone through 3 or 4 cheap creepy ones and wanted something more reliable. I do have to brush the walls more than I'd like. ... show more

  • This suction side vacuum is the one you want!
Style: 2-Wheel
Forget about the KREEPY! I was so frustrated trying to get that thing to run. You have to remember that your suction is going to have to hold the creepy up and drive it across the pool floor and I have just been so frustrated over the past few years messing with that thing every year I finally boxed it up and gave it away. Get this vacuum. It is awesome. It doesn’t really go all the way up the wall so you’ll still have to brush your walls, but this thing has been going all over my swimming pool. I attached a little skimmer basket that you can attach in the hose and it has just cleaned my pool like crazy. It cost about the same as the KREEPY but it actually works. I am so happy with this purchase. When I drug that other vacuum out at the beginning of this season and was trying to mess with it again, I just couldn’t take it anymore. I thought, I need a vacuum that is not relying on the suction to hold it up and drive it at the same time this vacuum is wonderful. You will not regret it. ... show more

  • Perfect after Tweaking So Far Perfect after Tweaking So Far
Style: 4-Wheel
Decided to replace an aging Zodiac MX8 that kept needing many expensive parts to keep running. Got the 4 wheel model. I have a challenging pool for such a vac. Sort of triangle with sides of 32', 36', 40' and 10', with a small deep end (8.5'), lots of steps, seats, etc. creating sharp square corners, and two raised pancake drains about 12" round and 1.75" tall at the center. Not only that, I'm gone for weeks or months at a time, so it has to never get tangled or caught on something. I run the 2 HP pump at 2500 RPM to save noise and money, for three hours a day (yes, the water is sparkling and tests fine). I put the smallest venturi provided in the vac head, and and it has worked perfectly so far. But the icing on the cake is that I have an Aiper solar surface skimmer (highly recommended!) that loves to crawl on top of a floating vac hose and send me a phone notification about it in the middle of the night that it's caught. To solve that I bought a role of 14=gauge stainless steel bare wire (Amazon) to make weights to sink the hose a bit. Sixteen wraps gave me about 140 grams in four places along the hose (near connectors 3, 5, 7, and 9 from the head in a 10 segment hose) See the pic. Now the Aiper plays nice with the hose. All in all, an easy 5 star review for me. ... show more

  • This is THE ONE you want. Best by far. Fast, durable, never gets stuck. Never.
Style: 2-Wheel
This is fast and has never gotten stuck, because every 15 or so seconds, it randomly spins and goes in a different direction. This checks all the "must have" boxes that everyone complains about on other cleaners. And it checks all my boxes, so no brainer. It's never gotten clogged, and given sufficient suction can climb walls. This is my second one. First lasted 4+ years, with 2 minor repairs: the rubber tires eventually wear down (about 2 years), and it has gears inside that also eventually wear down (2-3 years). Pretty easy to replace gears and away it goes. Very very happy with it especially compared to all the others I've tried, including a couple kreepy crawler types. The problem with them is I have to turn off all other pool filter lines (turn off skimmer) so they get all the suction. Also, most crawlers make noise (the Vingli was inexpensive, $80, and worked pretty good for 2 weeks then required I give it all the suction by turning off skimmer and the diaphragm it uses needs to be replaced every 200 hrs (every 25 days assuming 8 hrs per day filtering. So it was not a fit for someone who will be gone months at a time. Plus no skimmer is a deal breaker for me. But not with this cleaner! I can run out, the skimmer and a little in the infinity edge basin recycle water. It won't climb the walls with everything else on, but it still scurries all over the whole pool bottom with ease. Just put it in and forget about it. I only bought a new one after 4 years cuz I broke off an Axel when I dropped it while taking it out of pool. BUT bonus. I was able to use J.D. Weld epoxy to glue the axel back on, and the old one is back in the game and working fine, so it will be backup. Did not expect the epoxy to hold, the axel could only have glue on very end cuz it's molded to side of unit, and any excess glue would prevent the wheel from fitting. So 3 relatively minor repairs in 4 years, and still going strong. What's not to love? PROS: - can run other pump inlets and it keeps going. - does NOT get stuck (for more than 15 seconds when it spins and randomly picks new direction) - completely quiet Very happy with it, and not only would I buy it again, I just did buy another (out of concern epoxied wheel wouldn't hold, but so far it is, so I have a new one and a backup) ... show more
