So let's talk about Wayward Hayward a bit. This is my third unit. The first two were the flipper style. The first one was excellent. Lasted three years. The second one, the "update" was a complete confused POS. We hated it from the start. This is the upgrade, with the new design of the trac rollers and the vacuum cleaner front. Verdict. First off, I don’t plastic parts are alive so, the performance isn't going to change. It comes assembled and ready to use out of the box. I LOVE that!! Think like the manufacturer! They have to make a product flexible enough for midsize to very large pools. 20 to 40 thousand gallon as the description says. Well, there's a huge difference in pump power! We have a 3500 per whaterver pump, which is for the 20,000 gallon. When I split the suction between the Main drain and this unit, it won’t climb. However, thinking about the design, I increased the suction to all unit and, it climbs perfectly. So, it "replaces" the main drain and that’s fine with me! They annoy me anyway. I leave them just open enough to compensate for a clog or a reduction in flow and Hayward climbs. I would assume with more power it could walk on water but, that's what to keep in mind. Vacuum power is key. It’s not magic. The unit has some hard turn mechanics inside to prevent going over and over in the same pattern. The two wheels can be randomized. Thus, I assume IF the randomization is too opposite, it would do circles and that would be bad. So, check to make sure the random tabs on the wheels are offset and if you're experiencing spinning in place or repeated patterns, decrease the randomizer distance. I didn’t have to. Mine's perfect out of the box. What do I notice different? Well, those stupid feet and flippers are gone. Major improvement. It's plastic in a chemical pool so, it's not a fine wine which will get better with age. Plan on replacement parts, probably yearly I'll guess, maybe two. Hayward put less material in the hose, which I find to be SMART! The other hose was too heavy and thick. The joints on the hose are more secure than the old design. There is a tool with this unit the other didn’t have. It’s a rubber suction gauge that fits into the skimmer hole. Worthy. Value for price paid is there because they all cost a lot. Don't let the kids ride it or the dog eat it and you should be fine.

The Pool Cleaner is great. After suffering through creepy crawly and numerous Navigators which constantly break down and twist the suction hose this is a welcome friend. It cleans both the deep end and shallow end. It does not twist the hose. It does not get stuck in one spot. Follow the directions for the number of wheel RPM. You may need to screw the floats up or down depending on your pool. I read one person he didn't like it because it looked like a John Deere tractor with its large wheels. I don't give a fig what it looks like. It works. Dial it in and forget about it. Your pool will never be cleaner.

Excellent pool vac. This replaced a Creepy Crawler that never once left the deep side of my pool. I changed the flow rates. My pool tech raised the suction all the way. It was junk. I would drag it to the shallow side with my pole. I unboxed the Hayward, attached the hoses and connected it to my side suction port and it ran perfectly. Right wheel 11 revolutions per minute. This one covers 100% of my 320 square foot pool. Highly recommended. I bought the 4 wheel model.

Overall, I'm very happy with this Hayward pool cleaner. Right out of the box it looks very sturdy and well-built, with quality materials that seem like they'll hold up over time. It also came with a generous length of hose, which was a nice bonus since I didn't have to purchase any extras to reach all areas of my pool. My only minor disappointments were that it doesn't climb pool steps like I had seen mentioned in some other reviews, at least not in my pool. Also, the rubber connector that's supposed to attach the hose to the wall suction port didn't fit the valve that came with the vacuum. I ended up discarding the rubber adapter and connecting the hose directly to the valve instead, which worked perfectly. Despite those small issues, the cleaner performs well, was easy to get up and running, and does a great job keeping the pool clean. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it.

This is my second Poolvergnuegen. The first one lasted 10 years with zero problems until it started just going in a tight half circle, stopping, and then doing another tight half circle. After some research I decided to replace the tires (the blue treads) but that didn't fix it. I saw myself starting to go down an expensive rabbit hole of replacing one part after another until I had more money in it that a new one would cost me. Since I was replacing the exact same cleaner I didn't have to mess around at all with the suction valves but I do remember it being fairly simply to adjust the Jandy valve to share the suction between the skimmer and the dedicated cleaner line. Seriously, I didn't touch this thing for 10 years. It ran for 8 hours a day for 10 years! Oh, and it does a very good job. It took almost a week for this one to show up so my pool bottom was getting a bit dirty. After one night it was clean. It doesn't go up my walls though. I have PebbleTek which is kind of slick so maybe that's it. The old one never did the walls either. So, once a week I just brush them which isn't a big deal because, unless there's been algae, they're very clean. Yes, this one is more expensive than some of the other popular name-brand cleaners. But, you get what you pay for and I think this one is well worth the extra money.

5 Stars after my modification. Hayward could have a 5 star product with one simple modification. I'm an electrical engineer, and very mechanically inclined. Out of the box, this cleaner, I have the 4-wheel version, was horrible, and almost got the return sticker affixed, however after watching the unit flounder around, get stuck in corners, flay endlessly at my steps, and look like it lost it’s mechanical grip on life – all this cleaner needed was a little traction on my concrete pool. The wheels spin like hell but the cleaner would barely move. This thing was so neutral buoyant that it would barely touch the bottom of the pool. No traction – no Go! So, in addition to the 2 factory supplied hose weights, I added a 1 ½ oz fishing sinker, tie wrapped to the bottom hose connection– problem solved. This dang thing actually works. And, pretty good too. My pool is 20,000gal, 8’ deep 1.5HP Pump, and kidney shaped. It gets 95% of it. Does not do walls nor the steps – but sure does the bottom very well. It even eats nickel sized rocks, something my Hayward Navigator locked up on, every time. This cleaner can eat a nickel to quarter sized rock and push it through to the leaf bag. Highly recommend, but buy a sinker and tie wrap to go with it. Isn't worth a hoot without the extra weight. Seems like Hayward could pitch in a few fishing weights to help us out. I'm guessing, the physics of the installation might require more or less weight to obtain optimal performance - but just a little extra weight solved my problem.

It doesn't work. Not "works poorly", doesn't vacuum like, you know, it should. It wedges itself into corners, falls over on its side 90% of the time, and leaves debris exactly where it found it. Dragging the bare hose across the pool myself cleaned better than this thing did connected and running. We didn't give up on it, either. Re-read the instructions repeatedly, made every adjustment listed, brought in a pool guy. It never once did the one job it exists to do. And Frank's review describes the same failures, so don't tell yourself you'd get a good unit. The return was worse than the product. ~$100 to ship it back, then ~$100 in restocking fees, ~$200 to be rid of something that never functioned. I've been buying car parts, electronics, and everything else on Amazon for years and have never paid a cent to return anything. Charging a restocking fee on a defective product is a policy that tells you exactly how often they expect returns. Bought a different vacuum. It works perfectly, first try, no adjustments. Turns out pool vacuums can just do that.
