  • Very effective
Style: 2-Wheel
Absolutely blown away by this thing. I’ve have a g3 barracuda I’ve been using for 10yrs now. It did a decent job and was way better than vacuuming manually. I left it in the pool 24/7 and depending on the time of year had it running several hrs a day. Pool would be decent but struggled with leaves and pine needles especially in fall and winter here in FL. Over the last 10yrs the trees behind my property line have grown and throw way more leaves and pine needles in my pool every year and the barracuda struggles more and more, constantly getting clogged and not working. Got my aquanaut 2 days ago hooked it up, dialed it in as close as I could to the correct rpm. This thing is a beast just sucking up everything within a few hours it had my filthy pool almost spotless. I have a zodiac leaf canister hooked up as well and had to dump it 4-5 times as well as the cleaner got jammed up with debris a few times in the hrs it ran. While the cleaner did get clogged I don’t fault the cleaner as my pool was an absolute mess with leaves, pine needles, bark and some small sticks, that is beyond anything the aquanaut is advertised to do and directions say to clean out large debris prior to using the aquanaut. No that the pool is clean I have no doubt it will run flawlessly without getting clogged. I did have to run my Hayward variable speed pump almost 300rpm higher to achieve the correct rpm on the aquanaut. At first I’d did not like this as it pulls almost 200w more power but from the looks of it I will be able to drastically cut down the hrs of cleaner time. I was running my barracuda cleaner 4hrs a day and looks like I will be able to run the aquanaut under 2hrs which will save a few $ over the yrs of use. One thing I wish I had researched was the big difference between the 2 wheel vs 4 wheel version being the 4 wheel does longer straight aways before turning aka for larger pools. I thought the 4 wheels was more for climbing and traction from deep end to shallow. Again not the cleaners vault it’s mine but the good news is they make the gear to gain that ability for the 2 wheel and it’s on like $13. ... show more

  • Great pool accessory.
Style: 4-Wheel
Wish we had bought this years ago!!! Works very well and does a terrific job. Our concrete pool is roughly 30 X 15. Our pool cage is temporarily missing as it was torn down by Hurricane Ian and we have large trees and native woods a few feet away. We clean our filters weekly and skim debris that we deem too large for the cleaner. The cleaner just keeps running around and the bottom of the pool and the water are clean. Hayward, yes, we named him, doesn’t travel up the sides but we brush them every so often and they stay clean. Since Hayward operates on suction there aren’t any mechanical parts or motors to maintain or replace. We are extremely satisfied. ... show more

  • Significant improvement over Navigator, don't forget the rebate
Style: 4-Wheel
After putting the tubes together and dropping this 4-wheel model in the pool without reading a thing, it worked well so I can say that it is almost me-proof. I only read the directions because it didn't climb the walls, which is why I purchased it over the 2-wheel model (reviews seemed to suggest the 4-wheel climbed better). The directions explained that the two floats weren't in the correct positions "out of the box" so I moved them up, and that the "throat" on the bottom can be replaced with larger or smaller ones, which I did (large for me). I'm not getting the ideal RPMs on the wheels and it still isn't climbing, but to be frank our pool equipment is about 20 years old and is pretty beat up. So, it may be time for a new pump, since this seems to be running perfectly. Our old Navigator stopped climbing walls, too, about five years ago. This one gets to every corner of the pool and does NOT fall on its side like others have complained. We have a normal semi-rectangular 15' x 30' pool with an 8' deep end, and of course all the tubes weren't necessary; I'm using all but four. It also climbs over the bottom drain covers although they do slow it down. So, it's working well except for the climb. I'm hoping that some general pump and system maintenance will improve the speed and climbing, but at least it works better than our four-year old Hayward Navigator - it is faster and doesn't get stuck on the bottom drains. Otherwise, I would recommend either product with the edge to the newer Aquanaut. I almost forgot - Hayward has ongoing $100 rebate cycles. Some reviews say the rebate is legit while others say it didn't work for one reason or another. I read the rules and didn't see any reason why they wouldn't honor it, so applied. YMMV. ... show more

  • Works ok
Style: 4-Wheel
Have not had an issue with it turning on its side. It does not climb the vertical walls no matter the settings but does climb the steep sides of the bowl. It does not sweep completely clean. I still have to brush dirt spots. It will NOT remove algae. You will have to brush everything loose. It takes about 5 to 6 hours for it to get everything covered. My pool is 16 x 32 and 5 feet at the deep end. It does climb onto the standard circular bottom drain and makes all 4 wheels free spin making it stuck so you have to watch it. While it does kind of free you from vacuuming, it does require tending to. I mean, I can vacuum the entire pool in about 20 minutes manually so this doesn't save any time, just saves a little muscle. Is it worth the price? Maybe a break even if it lasts more than 2 to 3 years, otherwise, it won't be worth it. ... show more
