Pros: Good for the price. This was by far the lowest price I could find in this type of wood look. I like it, and I appreciate it for our use of purpose. Cons: Certain parts look very cheaply made. The plastic cap that you have to attach to the end of the aluminum poles are VERY cheap looking. Magnets are not very effective as I hoped for. Slightest wind will push the canopy at least half way if not completely. We don't have high winds in my area luckily, but I need to figure something out for that part. Not a deal breaker, but good to have an alternative plan for this. I was able to assemble this 90% myself as 5ft female, but the recommendation is two people. Recommendation : As others mention here, keep the bolts slightly loose until entire structure is pretty ready to be tightened. Read the steps carefully before building this as Step 6 gets a bit tricky if you don't pay attention at Step 3. I missed the part that L2 only requires one side to be bolted, and I had to go back to unscrew. Same goes to Step 4 only one side is bolted for L2. For Step 5, I had to pull out my own tool as the nut wrench was made like a toy. Also, I don't do too much of DIYs, so it was hard to tell on the instructions if I had to tighten it to the limit or at the tip as the picture indicates. If one is supposed to tighten it to the limit, this toy is impossible to utilize. If at the tip, then fingers would do. I have to see how long this structure will withhold. My guess is 2-3 years, but we shall see. Overall, for the price, it's ok. Not recommended for high wind areas. ... show more

Several months after installing the pergola, a very strong wind/thunderstorm came through the area. It caught us by surprize thus we had not folded up/retracted the canopy. With the canopy open, it acted as a huge sail for the wind to push against. Since I have anchored to the patio, all the force that was applied by the wind resulted in the middle canopy support rail joiner being bent, several of the hooks/rollers being damaged, and the canopy itself being ripped around the handle. I don't believe the damage was due to any manufacturing defects or poor design, but rather just an act of nature causing the parts to be subjected to forces beyond their normal design limits. Having said all that, the point of my review is to commend the manufacturer, Happatio, for their outstanding customer support! Once I conracted them, via Amazon, they were very helpful and timely. They have offered to replace the damaged parts at no cost! Great support and service for their products. I will definitely look to buy from them again. ... show more

UPDATED: Raised rating to 4 stars. Company offered to replace and provided any damaged parts without charge. Customer service was unmatched and helpful throughout. While some minor design flaws, in earlier versions that hopefully they remedy with later ones, happy that they stand behind their product. Will try a new fabric. ---- Somewhat decent value, fairly easy to assemble. Issues 1. fabric easily discolors from a gray to a light purple in less than a year of use. 2. Fabric sags upon weight of first rain. 3. Some screws and connectors rust almost immediately 4. Magnets to close might as well not be there as doesn’t hold it closed with even the slightest wind, has to be separately tied down. Probably won’t get more than 2-3 years use out of this. ... show more

(Second review) I’m back for a second review. I noticed today that the material has changed color from the light gray to a shade of grayish pink from the sun! Not what I expected. I’m disappointed that my first review (below) I mentioned the seller was great to send pieces missing but I tried to contact them today via Amazon and was unable due to the product being purchased more than 30 days ago. I guess the added protection plan I purchased really didn’t cover anything. (First review) Easy build for two people only took about 1.5 hours. The color matches great with my existing furniture and we’ve received many compliments about it. The retractable canopy is not water resistant and slight rain will get you wet. I wish I had purchased the waterproof pergola instead but this will do till we build our addition. We simply added some plastic sheets over top as a temporary solution when it rains. Two of the pieces came with small dents but it was fine. I purchased the protection plan and upon building I realized two parts needed to complete assembly were damaged so I contacted the company via Amazon protection plan and within a week I received all the pieces to complete assembly. I want to mention I followed instructions when beginning assembly and made sure to account for all pieces, however didn’t realize until assembly began that the two pieces were defective. So not necessarily entirely the fault of the company that I had to wait a few more days to finish assembly while waiting for the parts. I did also purchase two 35lb magnet hooks to keep the retractable canopy closed. The magnet attachment it comes with is weak and the slightest breeze will lift off and the retractable canopy will disconnect from magnets provided. ... show more
