  • 5-Stars for General Use
Now that I've used this hammer drill a few times, I'm pretty confident that the negative reviews posted are from those who don't fully understand how to use a hammer drill. If the user can understand its limitations and its proper use, then this can be a fantastic product. I highly recommend tossing the included drill bits into the garbage. If you want this hammer drill to truly perform, purchase some premium carbide-tip drill bits and don't look back. This is not a heavy-duty industrial-type tool. But if you need a relatively cheap, reliable, basic tool for average household projects, this will work fantastic based on my experience so far. It does the job, no complaints. For the price, this is an easy 5-stars. ... show more

  • Well Built and Designed
I was really happy with this hammer-drill. I'm in the middle of installing railing around our front porch that we had replaced with concrete. After using a regular drill motor with masonry bits with limited success I bought the Hammerhead. I was leery because I'm drilling for 5/16-18" anchors that are located 1-1/2" from the edge; pretty close. The risk of knocking out a chunk of the edge was apparent. The hammer action on this drill is just right to not cause collateral damage. It doesn't sound like a jack-hammer but more like a quieter air-tool, to give you an idea. Not very loud. The holes I drilled were 3/8" x 1-3/4" deep. I recommend starting the holes with a four-fluted masonry bit without the hammer action turned on, to get a straighter hole, which can be most difficult in concrete. Then switch to a regular masonry bit with hammer action. It's still a battle for a straight hole but your chances are better. So far I have installed over 20 anchors with this drill. It is well built, sturdy, heavy and has a 2-year warranty. Nice. It is a good unit for my purpose and well within my budget. ... show more

  • For limited use it works fine.
Drill is pretty good for its price. Does not come with a case. It does get hot if using it steady but 3-5 min burst,no issues. The chuck is kind of hard to hold onto while trying to release bit, no lock to stop from rotating while taking bit out. It worked for what I needed but its by no means pro grade. ... show more

  • Not for professional use. May be good for one job.
If you're a professional and need a tool for daily use, I don't even know why you're looking here, unless your tools frequently get stolen. This tool is for those who have one job they need it for, and then they'll stash it in the garage for years just in case it may be needed again. Maybe it might still work! I had one job: Drive a grounding rod into the ground. It was a 4 foot rod, and the soil was soft. I probably could have just done it with a hammer, but this was cheap and I didn't want to have the rod and lose another day because I needed more force to drive it in. I chucked up the rod, and used the tool for maybe 30 seconds to drive the rod into the ground. This was extremely easy work, and barely even loaded the motor. It did this very easy job, but I smelled burning electronics even before the rod went down. This smells like under rated components used in the control circuitry or maybe the motor itself. If I had to do 4 of those (about 2 minutes worth of work), I don't know if it would have made it. If you think you're only going to use it once (like I did), then roll the dice because it's cheap, maybe cheaper than a rental. If you think you're going to use this for a major project, or need it for your job, then either get one of the name brands, or be prepared to buy one for each day of the project, and hope it makes it through the day. (That might be a good idea if your tools frequently get stolen.) As for me, it did its job, and may survive long enough to drill a hole or drive another ground rod down in case I need to go to 8 feet. Once it burns out, at least I'll have a power cord I can use on something else! Oh, and I got a couple of the drill bits that were supposed to come with it. I didn't use them, and I don't expect much out of them. You get what you pay for. At least it didn't stink as much as Harbor Freight tools usually do! ... show more

  • Replaced a broke drill
Powerful drill, bought this one to replace Chicago electric that you cannot get parts for

  • Great value
I bought this (and a high speed drill bit) to drill holes in a concrete subfloor to secure a toilet flange. I had previously only used a regular electric drill for drilling concrete and was unfamiliar with hammer drills. So I was very pleased when this drill cut through the concrete like it was butter. I had tried to rent a hammer drill from the big box hardware store but they wanted almost twice the price of this drill to rent it for 4 hours. Was pleasantly surprised that this drill came with metal and masonry drill bits and a tool for cleaning out the drill holes. For the DYI people out there this is a great value for the price! ... show more
