May be the best toaster we've ever bought.

Our old reliable toaster gave us several years of good service. But since it died a few months ago, we've purchased two other units that just weren't satisfactory. They didn't toast evenly, they didn't accommodate some breads that were too long or too wide and one died after only a couple of months of use. After reading numerous positive comments for this toaster, I decided to give it a try. I was pleased with its performance right off the bat. The slots are long enough and wide enough for the larger loaves that we normally buy. It also accommodates bagels and muffins with special settings for those as well as a special setting for one slice of toast. It toasts everything evenly, better than any toaster we've ever had. I have the heat setting on 5 (out of 7) which gives me good results for everything I've toasted. Also, if you've ever toasted something like a smaller bread or some smaller bagels, you have probably had to carefully pry them out because the toaster only raises it to a certain level. With this toaster, all you have to do is lift up on the handle and it raises items high enough for you to just pull out. Also, the crumb tray easily slides out and they recommend that you empty it after every use. It does seem to take slightly longer for it to complete its toasting, which you should take into account when you're frying eggs or something so that it's ready when you are. Obviously I'm pleased with this purchase and I highly recommend it.

Perfect Modern Toaster

This is a beautiful toaster. The slots are wide enough for bagels, burger buns and hotdog buns, too. I toast split croissants, too, using the bagel mode. It takes a bit of experimenting with the shade dial depending on the bread you toast. I like the cool to touch exterior, too.

I think I finally found a decent toaster

I have only had this toaster a couple of weeks. This is everything I need in a toaster. I especially like the wider & longer slots. All elements inside are heating up & items are completely toasted on both sides - this is where many others fail, toasting unevenly. I am producing perfect toast on the middle setting. Love the bagel feature, toasting nicely on cut side makes it nice & crispy. I gave it 4 stars because it does seem to pop up ‘weakly’. Also, it is unclear how one slice option works. “ When using ‘Toasting one slice feature’, Sure-toast technology ensures even color on both sides. Middle heating element is on when toasting starts, and off during toasting to prevent over browning of one side of bread.” ??? I wish the cord came out under the rear of the toaster. Hope it stands up over time. Will follow up as I continue to use it.

Anomalies in toast settings

From the multiple reviews of this toaster, it’s apparent that the darkness settings vary wildly from unit to unit. Recommendations for the proper brownness run from 2 and up. Here’s my experience with Earthgrains Healthnut bread, my favorite sandwich bread. At 3-1/2 using the single slice function, no toasting at all. Same at 4-1/2. At 5-1/2, perfection! Both sides were evenly and perfectly browned. For a Bays English muffin using the bagel function, at 3-1/2, no toasting at all. Same at 4-1/2. At 6-1/2, perfection! The cut side was evenly and perfectly browned while the bottom side was soft, warm and untoasted. I don’t have white bread to test, and you can take these settings as proper for my unit. Calibration at the factory may be an issue on this unit or on other units that have been reviewed, so take the time to experiment. As nearly everyone has observed, the toasting is slow. These settings were from a cold unit. Every toaster has a shorter toasting time for subsequent toast while the toaster is hot, so toast accordingly. Also, the generous 6” slot makes it ideal for longer loaves, like Dave’s and Brownberry. The proper dimensions are: W (at bottom) 6-5/8” H 7-1/2” L (including protrusions) 11-1/4”. It fits perfectly in my kitchen small appliance cubbyhole. My wife wanted simple controls (fewer things to break), and this delivers. Very happy with performance, price and quality. Highly recommend.

Decent Value, Not "Gourmet" Quality

For a couple of years, we had a very expensive Breville toaster that never toasted evenly, so we decided to go back to basics and try this out. This one does toast quite evenly. It does what toasters need to do with no extra controls features. In that sense, the price reflects what you get. It doesn't feel particularly solid, so I don't think it will have a particularly long lifespan. And it takes nearly two full cycles to toast our home made bread sliced at just under 1/2". One annoyance is that you need to remember to press a "single slice" button if you're not toasting two slices, otherwise the results will be quite uneven. Had I noticed this before I bought it, it would have likely been a deal-breaker. Instead, it cost this review an extra star. In the case of the Breville, I can't say that I got what I paid for. For better or worse, with the low-cost Hamilton Beach, I did.

Excellent Vqlue!

There's a reason Hamilton Beach has been around since 1910, and that's because their products are GOOD and VALUE-PRICED. I've never had any issues with anything made by HB, and this toaster is another of their small appliances that I'm completely happy with! I have a toaster oven, but wanted a toaster because it would toast bread quicker, and I wanted just a 2-slicer, yet I needed it to be able to handle those longer (not thicker) pieces of bread. When I found this one --- and it was priced at less than $30 --- well, I quit searching and placed an order. So pleased with this product. Toasts evenly and slices of my homemade bread, which I make in large boulles, fit just fine in the slots. I also like the easy controls. Nothing difficult. Not a bunch of unnecessary options. This is also a great toaster for bagels. Don't be fooled by its light weight. My last toaster, which was a high-end brand, was heavy, not to mention expensive. This HB toaster does a better job for me!

Only toasts one side of bread

I HATE to give negative reviews... But... Purchased 2-slice toaster 8/16. Just decided to return. Missed return date. Kept hoping for best. Kept getting worse. DOES NOT TOAST EVENLY BOTH SIDES : ( Pops up with only 1 side toasted nicely; other side barely toasted so I have to flip the bread slice to toast the 2nd side... Note: the grill appears lit up both sides each slot so not sure why both sides are not toasting. Instead of getting better over time (my hope), it got worse. Only thing I liked was the longer slots to accommodate larger slices of bread. And, it did toast well - if you want one side toasted. VERY disappointed.

Great Toaster

Love this toaster for several reasons. I can get bagels in easily and can now toast my rye bread (which is longer than traditional sliced bread) without having to pop it up to flip over! Also like that the outsides of the toaster are cool to the touch, which is great if you have small children. It toasts evenly and the numerous time settings are great, too. I started with the middle setting and worked my way to my preferred darkness. The crumb tray is easy to clean and appreciated the reminder to not turn the toaster upside down to shake out anything else as that’s apparently not good for a toaster. I got a black unit and no fingerprints show! Buy with confidence, in my opinion!
