The crock on my last Hamilton Beach slow cooker finally wore out and since I wanted a slightly bigger size, I decided to order a new cooker. Since I use my cooker a lot, I decided to upgrade and I ordered and tried 2 different 'high end" cookers that looked nice and sounded like they had superior features, only to find out they did not function as well as my old Hamilton Beach. I finally ended up buying this 7qt pot and it is great.. Just like the last HB cooker was. The controls are pretty basic but super easy to operate. Select the temperature and select the number of cooking hours. My cooker automatically shifts to warm after the cooking hours are complete. Mine sat in warm mode for at least 6 hours before I turned it off. Very even cooking. No burnt edges around the pot and very even cooking. The lid does not have a rubber seal, but it fit the pot well and the handles were never too hot to touch. The outside of the cooker does get quite hot, but all cookers I have used get hot on the outside. This pot does everything I need, it is easy to use and easy to clean up, it cooks evenly and warms up quick. It automatically shifts to warm mode and the Food came out perfect. I use it to cook for two, so a 4-quart size may be too small for larger families. Lacks lockable lid, but not sure that really matters. Timer is in two-hour increments, so 3 or 5 hours times are not possible. Again, not sure that makes any differences since most recipes call for even hours. The cooker is a very nice weight and is easy to handle, it cleans up well, and is a perfect size for cooking enough for for two plus leftovers. We've only used it twice but the first time it did seem to run a bit hot and the pork tenderloin seemed overcooked. The second time came out better with chicken thighs in a chicken caccitore. We have cooked with a smaller slow cooker (Crockpot) for years and never had a problem. We wanted a larger unit and chose this one based on user reviews. We hope that the "running hot" issue is "user error". We will leave another review after we try preparing more meals in this cooker. ... show more

I used this to make homemade cranberry sauce. Worked like a charm. Will definitely use it for spaghetti sauce, curry, stew and anything else I come up with. Great for smaller batches and couples.
