The only reason I purchased this product is because it was on sale. I wasn't sure if I would buy it otherwise, but for the price I couldn't pass it up. After playing it, I am so impressed. I think this product is worth more than what I bought it for. I had a problem with one of the guitar buttons sticking at first, but after some use it loosened up. I think the guitars themselves are great quality. I was worried about the feature where you are able to buy 'plays' with real money, but I have no issue with how this is set up. There are lots of options to earn plays by completing tasks in the game. One thing that I am overly impressed by is the stations. They have different categories that change every 30-60 minutes and play songs in that genre. I also love the new campaign mode, it is just brilliant. It's a bit short though. I have played this by myself for hours and didn't get bored. I have also brought this over to my friends and played with a group of people. I am overly impressed and glad I bought this. The overall feel while you're playing is so real and I love that. Definitely worth the buy, especially if you love Guitar Hero/Rockband type games. ... show more

I bought this for myself much to my 9 & 10 year olds disappointment. I loved rock bank when the original one was released and then life became busy and hectic and was out of the the band. When the kids opened a xboxone for Christmas I had no intentions of having time to play, however after 2 months I was eyeing the Xbox thinking we used to be friends maybe we could again lol. So I ordered guitar hero to see if I still had the skills I had almost 10 years ago . I received my new guitar hero came with 2 controllers , straps, usb controller connects, game disc, and batteries. Simple set up easy to follow directions. The second the kids went to bed I was playing the tutorial and realized I was rusty. 2 hours later and I was picking it up! I have played for two days 5 hours total and love the song variations, different levels and love the live audiences that think I'm awesome. I was a fan of the original and love this one even more. There was a little learning curve with the new guitar button placements yet they make sense and simulate a real instrument. Hours of fun to be had! ... show more

I've played every single Rock Band and Guitar Hero game released. Ever. And this is one of the worst. PROS: 1. I actually love the updated controller. It's easier on the fingers (only 3 horizontal notes, instead of 5) but harder on the mind (2 rows instead of 1). I can see why some would hate it, but I find it to be much more comfortable, especially during longer sessions. 2. Difficulties are accurate. Easy is easy and hard is hard. The game feels more challenging and less button-mashy at higher difficulty levels. 3. Song selection (as of today, when the game was launched) is decent, at least. There are a few dozens songs, which is a lot once you actually start playing through them, and the game promises (via in-game text) to rapidly add more in the future. 4. No more cartoons. The new aesthetics are very nice! It feels like I'm watching Fuse TV or something like that, but I get to play along with the music videos. Alternatively, the live band mode is also cool, and it's fun to see real people react to how well/poorly I am playing. CONS: 1. USB dongles stink. What the actual heck is going on here? I need to leave a USB dongle plugged into my XBOX One just to play this game? And I need a separate dongle for each remote? What? 2. Local multiplayer stinks. The only way to play this game with a friend on local multiplayer is to have them connect a 2nd remote as a "guest." Guests stats are not saved and not connected to the player's XBOX Live profile, which renders it virtually useless. No more trying to break each other's high scores. No more going back and forth during songs. Multiplayer in this game, is just having a 2nd guitar show up on the screen for your friend to play along on. OVERALL: I love the new remote. I love the real-life aesthetics. This is a great solo game, if you really love the Guitar Hero mechanics. But if you are buying this as a party game, I would not recommend it because multiplayer is almost non-existant and you need to mess around with lame USB dongles to get the extra remotes working. I haven't been so tempted to try to return a game in years. I will give the game 3 stars for being fun to play, and for trying something new with the updated remote and aesthetics, but I considered leaving a 2 star review because I was so disappointed that this is the Guitar Hero game we've been waiting so long for. ... show more

This product will make me think twice about buying Activision products in the future. Putting aside all the other issues that people have correctly pointed out - not allowing multiple users to sign in simultaneously, cheap controllers, the inability to just play the songs you want when you want, constant upselling, etc., the hardware does not provide basic function in a way they HAD to know going in. The most basic fun of Guitar Hero/Rock Band is the ability to get together with friends/family and play together. But the hardware doesn't allow that to be done without great difficulty. The Xbox One has three ports - one on the side and two in the back. You need to use two to play with 2 guitars, because you can't register 2 guitars with the same USB key. Problem is the USB keys only have a very limited range and struggle to pick up controllers. This is particularly pronounced with the back USB ports. By myself, I can play 1 guitar on my couch. But I can't play with friends or family without one of us literally sitting right up by the television in order to register that guitar with the USB key in the back of the Xbox. This is just a basic design flaw that tons of consumers have pointed out and should have been ridiculously obvious in advance. There's no way Activision didn't know this. Yet they sold these 2 pack bundles to consumers knowing that they don't provide the most basic function - to play on your couch with a friend or family member in your living room 6-8 feet away from your television. That is NOT too much to ask to say the least but the cost cutting across the board that appears to have gone on with this product prevented the company from spending the nominal amount of money it would cost to ensure you can play both guitars more than 3 feet away from your Xbox. I can't recommend any more strongly people avoid this product and Activision deserves scorn for this ripoff of a product. ... show more

We had been discussing purchasing GHL for a few months and finally pulled the trigger on it. We had it for the XBox 360 when it first came out, and then sold the console. We were so impressed with how the game has progressed! It was a little difficult for my 8-year old to catch on, as he was used to the old style from playing at the neighbor's house. However, after about 30 minutes of play, he had caught on and was beating me at a few songs! The guitars could be made a little more sturdy, but they do the job and they fit all sizes of hands. That's why I dropped a star. Otherwise it is an awesome game and has given us many hours of fun already! ... show more

While I have some gripes with how the game makes striving for top scores less interesting (as they did away with old starpower); overall the package is pretty cool. The new 6-button guitar is definitely the right direction. While I had my initial doubts, it felt great trying to learn a new concept as opposed to simply replaying something I'm already good at. Having to drop down from expert to the lower difficulties is both humbling and exciting, bringing me back to the old days of guitar hero where I was always making breakthroughs in my ability. GHTV is smart, and definitely an innovation I think the series needed to stay alive. The option to play over 200 tracks for free (microtransactions linger in the background but so far I'm having no troubles earning play tokens) makes the library impressive. This helps compensate for the relatively underwhelming on-disc tracklist. Playing along with the actual music video to a song is a welcome addition as well. Overall, the game has some flaws in presentation and features, but those are overcome by how refreshing the game is after years of time off. ... show more

I bought this game with the 2 guitar pack, because my girlfriend and I love to hang out at home and play other Guitar Hero or Rock Band games for hours on end. I got excited for a new iteration of the game that had reworked mechanics and didn't do my due diligence in reading reviews in advance, because it's extremely rare that Guitar Hero has disappointed me. Guitar Hero Live has been very disappointing though and I recommend others hold off buying it until some things are worked out. The Good: The gameplay really isn't the issue with the game that I had. If you're playing by yourself and don't mind playing one of the music video streams, it's not a bad way to spend a few hours. The music video playing in the background versus a cartoon band playing the song is a fun idea and enjoyed it. There are a lot of songs and of all kinds of different genres, so there's a little something for everyone. The new gameplay with 6 buttons is both challenging to master, but easy to figure out right out of the box. The guitar controllers are mostly good quality other than a little squeaking occasionally. The Bad: You aren't able to fail in the game, which some may see as a positive, but I don't feel driven to try harder to "stay alive" when I can get 38% of the notes and still finish the song. It should feel like an accomplishment to get through "Through the Fire and Flames" on expert difficulty, but it's not anymore. The lack of any diversity of guitars is extremely disappointing as well. Only being able to play one track of a song and being totally unable to play bass guitar or a secondary guitar track for two people to play something different is honestly unacceptable to me. The Ugly: I truly loathe Guitar Hero Live for the song play system. The base song library is excellent, but only a very few songs are available to play an unlimited number of times. This system is micro-transactions at their worst. You can earn additional song plays by playing the game, or you can buy them. I just paid a lot of money for a game and I can't just sit down and play whatever song I want as many times as I want unless I've banked a ton of plays or I'm willing to fork out additional money to have more plays or get the 24 hour party pass for $6 a day. This is the basis of my 2 star review. I would be more willing to pay a small subscription or some form of season pass, even though I would still feel a little ripped off. As it stands, this system feels like I'm being ripped off and needs to be eliminated if I'm to ever buy another Guitar Hero game. ... show more
