About two years ago, I bought and reviewed (here on Amazon) the Xbox One S Limited edition Gears of War 4 console. After time had passed by and feeling the need to play some games in either 4K or 60FPS (Witcher 3, Gears 5, RDR2, etc.) I decided I wanted to pick up an Xbox One X. What a coincidence that 2 years later they would bring out a Limited edition Gears of War 5 console when I was already looking to pick one up, so of course I preordered. Let me start by saying that the first thing that jumped out to me was that this consoles box is the same exact size as the Xbox One S box, and the way the console is packaged is exactly the same, which is fine because it's quick and easy to open (Especially compared so my Spider-Man PS4 Pro Console). Comparing this side by side to the Gears 4 console, the design is less aggressive and more subtle then the Gears 4 console which was flaming red all over (as well as the controller) but there are some thing I prefer more about this console, I love the Translucent Cog logo on the console and the design underneath the console of the Locust Symbol as well as the Black/gold look of the bottom, it's eye catching. So let's talk about what comes in the box? You get the Gears Console, Limited Edition Controller, Gears 5 Ultimate download code, Xbox Live 1 Month Free Trial, and Xbox Game Pass 1 Month Free Trial. It's actually a lot of content and when you factor in you're only paying $100 more than a regular Xbox One X this proves to be a good value. As a huge fan of producr design, this console is insane! The C.O.G. symbol seriously does look like its deep inder the system. Im not a big fan of the power on/off sounds, but it is a nice feature. If you have an xbox, you know what you're getting. So i wont remark on the xbox dashboard or the games. Its gears of war. Pretty straight forward. The controller feels nice, has a slight rubberish feel, and etchings all throughout. The triggers have a good feeling texture strip going up and down, as well as rubber grips on the wings/grips. I cannot get over how good and beautiful this console is. The only console that is better than this, as far as presentation goes, is the GOD OF WAR PS4 PRO. ... show more

This design is one of the best to come out of this console generation, im really not a big gears of war guy however this design was a must have for me. I wasn't sure if the clear "ice' was gonna look as good in real life as it does in their commercials but it really does. the laser etched cracks are awesome to look at and all the different details around the console are awesome. It plays games great and massively improved compared to the OG Xbox one. its a limited edition so personally if your on the fence i'd get it and if you realize you dont like it you can always sell it down the road. This console is so well thought out. It has the swarm symbol on the back and a locust frozen under the ice on the front and it looks so real. You can even feel the breaks in the ice. The Kait controller looks and plays amazing. Comes with ALL the Gears franchise to date, a month of Xbox Gold and Game Pass (I recommend upgrading to Xbox Ultimate and saving $5/mo its so worth it for the extra perks, this month we got 6 months of spotify premium free). The machine looks beautiful in this special edition and works perfectly. The only weird thing is the Xbox dashboard, I think the 360 was better on that and Play Station 3 was way better on it too. As far the Gears of War games, the games are really good so far, I haven't played the 5 yet but I just finished 4. They are very good games but they are missing something that the original trilogy had, I don't know what it is. Maybe I have some form of bias because the playable character in the story is not Marcus Fenix. Still I recommend the machine and the games. ... show more

First - I am not a gamer. I do not claim to be knowledgable about games, game consoles, game platforms, or anything remotely gamerish. I am a tech guy; just not a game-tech guy. Second - If you are wanting to do the promotional financing offer advertised by Microsoft do not try to use the Amazon app for tablets and smartphones. You will need to order and apply for the financing using a web browser. This really is the only snag I encountered. In the whole scheme of things, it's pretty small. The console was packaged well, and there was 0 damage to any of the contents. Everything was there to connect it to my TV. The included controller was paired and ready for operation out of the box. As soon as the console powered up, it detected that updates were available, and it took care of applying the updates automatically. After the updates were applied and the console completed the required restarts, I logged in with my Microsoft account, claimed the included game pass per the instructions provided by Amazon in my software locker, and in a few seconds, setup was complete. My family then added their accounts, and that went smooth as well. At this point, I turned the process over to my kid (the gamer), and he was able to access the titles, download them to the console, and play them. When things arrived at this point, it was mission accomplished. Overall, it took me less than an hour to successfully complete the setup. ... show more
