  • Amazing SE Console to be SURE!!
I just received my Xbox One S Gears Of War 4 Limited Edition console yesterday. My son has an Xbox One (original) so I have played and am familiar with the platform. I have long since been a PlayStation consumer, this console has changed that. First of all MS, good on you for including TRUE 4K and HDR resolutions. Secondly, in a market where a 4K Blue-Ray player will cost you $300 easily, may as well pony up the little extra and get the player that includes a next gen gaming system. Sony missed the mark on those items with the "Pro" edition of the PS. I would also have to admit that the Xbox One S controllers feel more at home in the hand (in this humble man's opinion anyways). I love the controllers so much more than my Dual Shock 4's. Now for the special edition part: The first great benifit is the 2tb HDD. I was growing soooo tired of erasing 2 or 3 games every time I brought a new one home because my 500gb PS4 HDD was lackluster. 2tb should clear that problem right up Next order of business: That design is freaking sexy!! The red....the insignias.....the real scratches like this thing has been in battle.... Honestly I have been gaming since Atari, Comodore 64, etc. This is the first "Special Edition" ANYTHING I have ever purchased. I never saw the point in spending the extra dollars to get a console that is a different color or just comes WITH a game like ALL consoles USED to do. Well if you got the deal I did this gorgeous edition did not cost much if any more than what the standard editions did but, it was worth every penny. This is the sharpest special edition, nay CONSOLE of any kind period I have ever seen! The extra sound effects when ejecting a disk or shutting down the console was a nice touch I was surprised by as well. The controller has all the same design aspects that impress with the console, amazing. Also comfortable enough to game with for hours. The free included stand to set up you Xbox on it's side was great also. I have never seen the point in spending extra money to make it possible to stand my consoles on their side but now that someone thought to just give me one this is the first console in my household I have actually decided to change the orientation of and I like it. MS also did right by me by making this a "set top box" and including the ability to run your cable box through in series. Now when I am watching TV I can see my notifications on my console. It is also easier than ever to switch from games to TV. Also, I know there is a ton of stuff I still have yet to discover just as soon as I get that connect, which I never would have gotten if not for being able to voice control TV's and Cable equipment. Bottom line, worth the money even from the perspective is a "Former PlayStation Fan". Sony I am sorry, and I will be looking for PS5. For now however MS has a monopoly in this household on a ton of products now and I am pleased by this indeed! ... show more

  • Fantastic bundle for such a low price! Fantastic bundle for such a low price!
Absolutely well worth the money I spent (~$378). Not only it is a 2TB (Terabyte) Xbox: One S console, but it also comes with the pre-order content, the season pass, and full game of Gears of War 4 along with a beautifully designed controller. Yes, the scratches on the controller and Xbox are completely real and actually textures into both devices. It works great, came perfectly secure, shipped fast, and much less expensive than just the plain console on Xbox(dot)com; which is still $449 as I'm writing this. Now, I think this is just my controller, but the Xbox home button on the Gears of War 4 controller is a little broken in comparison with my other controllers. Double tapping the middle button twice opens up the menu at the side screen without retracting the game, but on the Gears controller, it kind of bugs out a bit and retracts the game to bring me to the full menu. I don't know if this is with all controllers but I guess it's a small complaint I have. Yes, I updated the console, all the games, and the controller itself but it doesn't fix it. It's still a very great controller, just the home button being a little poopy, I still manage. Yes, the controller has 2 ports on the bottom; a 3.5mm head-jack for headphones and the other thing-a-ma-bobber for the other headset. It also has a textured grip (but personally, I barely can tell when playing). I would say PLEASE take the deal. This is the cheapest and best bundle you will find anywhere with 2 day shipping (for prime members). I definitely recommend it with how the price is and what it includes total. ... show more

  • It was definitely worth it!
I will admit that I was a little leery of buying my own Xbox One (my son has one and loves it) this late in the game. With the Xbox One X coming in November, the only thing that drove my purchase was the fact that my son is going to be gone for a month to visit family, and I absolutely enjoy gaming with him. That said, I started doing research and found out about the Xbox One S. I knew that if I was going to buy a Xbox One, it was going to be a bundle and brand new. I've learned my lesson about "used" electronics. After doing some research, I chose the Gears of War 4 LE Xbox One S. There were two primary reasons why I chose this one. First, 2TB of storage is just damned nice. My first Xbox ever was a 360 with 250GB of storage and that was just an absolute pain. I will never understand why if digital media is the wave of the future, that a gaming console would ever ship with less than 1TB, especially with games that are 50-100GB in size. So, having 2TB of storage ensures that the games I play all the time are right on hand, not having to wait to be downloaded. Second, because of the Xbox One X. The Gears version of the One S has been a pretty popular LE console. It has retained a relatively high value and thus will allow me to trade it in for a substantial amount, thus helping me upgrade to the One X. Here's a brief review of the console itself. Aesthetically, the device looks amazing. That crimson and black color scheme works absolutely well together, and the scratches etched into both the controller and the console just blows me away. I know it sounds idiotic, however as a middle aged guy, the aesthetic thing is super important. I'm not a neckbeard living in my folks basement. If I have something in my living room, it not only has to work well, but look great too. This LE console has already started conversations when people walk in and see it. When my friends pick up the controller, even non-gamers want to play something just to hold on to it. That says tons about just how much of a role the looks of a device plays in people wanting to use it (something Apple glommed on to a long time ago). I love the physical switches on it too! I'm that dad that when I look at my kid's Xbox, it turns on. I absolutely LOATHE the touch-sensitive switch on the OG Xbox One. This isn't an issue with the One S and it's awesome! Everyone is fussing about how much smaller it is than the OG Xbox One and yes, it is much smaller. However, one thing that shocked me was how heavy it felt when I unboxed it. It is smaller, but doesn't feel flimsy or too light. That was actually very pleasing to me as it didn't feel cheaply built. The controller is extremely comfortable in the hand. I have the manual dexterity of a goat trying to do brain surgery, yet I was able to play Gears of War 4 and actually enjoy it. I'm never going to be a first person shooter guy (not twitchy enough), but if I can play it with this controller, anyone can. The directional pad is metallic crimson with the same black pattern that the console and rest of the controller has, which looks fantastic. All in all, I feel like a made a great choice with this one. The color scheme, attention to detail, and high value, made this a great choice for me. I will be picking up an One X in November (my son can get his own if he wants), and knowing that I didn't shoot myself in the financial foot with this purchase, makes me feel very good about buying. I wonder if Microsoft might offer some sort of trade-in scheme for purchasers of the One S, that will offer a great deal on trading up. If this is done, there won't be a high enough amount of stars I could offer this console. If you're on the fence about getting this one...don't be. Even if you aren't looking to get the Xbox One X in the future, you could do a hell of a lot worse than to purchase the latest version of the Xbox with a large amount of onboard storage, beautiful aesthetics, and not a bad price either. ... show more

  • Pathetic game nice console
I am a gears junky. I would play gears 3 versus daily for so many hours, I'm ashamed. So when the Xbox one came out for the longest time I had no interest in getting it until Gow4 came out. I have to say I hate the game. The versus gameplay feels slow and chunky. You can definitely see the difference in the resolution, the maps are beautiful but I care more about game play. There are constant glitches that keep you from playing the game at all, it's garbage. The game deserves 1 star, I went a full month not playing hoping when I started again the glitches would be fixed. I didn't miss playing the game at all. Even after their "biggest update ever" the game still sucks. I ran through the campaign quickly and after I was done I felt like I missed something. There just wasn't much to it. The most irritating part about the Xbox is how long it takes to download the game. When it first arrived I took the day off, I felt like a crack addict with a warfare check. I set it up thinking I'm going to start killing right away but ended up EXTREMELY disappointed. It doesn't come with the game on disc it has to be downloaded. I wasn't aware how long would take wirelessly. I should have plugged it directly into the ethernet port. By the time I realized my mistake I was already several hours in. It took over 24hrs for the download I was Hot. Now I only leave it plugged in but even then the software updates take an hour+ and you can't play while downloading. They should have provided the disc, I wasted a day off. The console is still very large it's the size of the original 360. It's heavier because it has an internal power pack instead of the previous models with the heavy brick power source. The body design is beautiful. I love the attention to detail, the deep scratches are fun and I think the startup swarm screeching and shutdown cog music are genius. For an addict it's truly gratifying. Gears 3 plays awesome on this unit. After playing slow gow4 then going to gow3 versus, I feel like an 80yo trying to play with a bunch of teenagers. It takes a minute to get used to being able to move as fast as I can think. And the explorer browser has really improved. I like watching local news and I can finally stream news videos which I still can't do on the 360. Bottom line, I hate the game like the console. ... show more

  • Controller is no good
First I'll start with the good things. This Xbox is great. Really loving the 2 TB and the look is awesome. It plays great for the most part, it did crash on me once though. The bad thing is the controller that came with the console. This controller looks so awesome, but it's just annoying. Right out of the box the X button was sticky. I thought maybe by playing a bit it would loosen up but no luck. Everytime I play Siege I sometimes die because my reload button is stuck in... That's not the worst though. The right analog started messing up on me about a few weeks ago. When I'm not touching the controller my aim will be slowly spinning. I guess the controller is registering that the analog is being pushed although nothing is pushing it. This is incredibly annoying when playing games where precise aiming is extremely relied upon, like Rainbow Six Siege. I stopped using this controller, and started using my other because of this issue only to find that the other was so much worse. I haven't had this console and controllers maybe two months, and it's not like these controllers are cheap either. I hope Microsoft knows about this issue and is working on a solution since controllers are essential to playing. I will update my review if anything changes or I receive any communication from the manufacturer. ... show more

  • but splurged for the awesome gears of war theme
I Got this mostly as a 4k blu-ray player, but splurged for the awesome gears of war theme, I already had gears of war 4 ultimate edition and mainly play on PC, so i was able to off that for a little profit, keeping the extra code for the console bonus in gears of war, I.E. vintage Oscar pack. (There is one code for gears of war ultimate edition with the season pass and the vintage JD and Del packs and one code for the vintage Oscar pack) but the theme on this console is great with the orchestra chiming when you turn it on or off, and hearing a juvie screeching when you eject a disc. and then the crimson omen and best of all is the claw marks on the top and front of the console which are actually laser etched in. and have a tactile feel as you run your fingers over. the theme even makes its way over to the inside of the packaging with crimson blood splatters all over. theme wise this console is fantastic and gets a 5/5. however as a console it is mainly a halo/older gears of war machine as i do most of my gaming on the PC, it would get a 2/5, but like I said, I got it mostly for a 4k blu-ray player, so as that it works great, with beautiful 4k HDR content that is yet to come ... show more

  • I have to admit that I am very disappointed with my initial experience with this console
Okay... this review is being written mere hours after I received my One S. I have to admit that I am very disappointed with my initial experience with this console. I am a PC gamer and have been very reluctant to purchase a console. The ONLY reason I finally went out on a limb to get one, was for the new FFXV game which isn't offered for PC. BIG mistake! This thing downloads games SOOO SLOOWW! I researched this console pretty thoroughly prior to purchase, or so I thought. Not until my issues with attempting to install the game at a snails pace and never getting past 63%, did I realize I may have just bought junk. A little more research brought to my attention this seemingly ongoing issue.Im hoping this review will get some replies that may be helpful in overcoming this dilemma. I almost would like to keep the console if there is a resolution. If not, IT'S GOING BACK! So, fellow gamers (console), any input would be greatly appreciated. CAN someone get me to change this rating? Thanks. ... show more

  • Cool console and controller but I would preorder the 'X' and wait until November for a few bucks more if I had it to do again.
Cool looking Xbox1 and controller. Graphics are actually molded into the unit and controller for a true 3D look and feel. Custom sounds too. The sounds could have been better in my opinion but are from the game so fans of the game may think they're fine. With the price of $410 new and the Xbox X on pre-order for $499 already I would opt for the 'X' and get the most powerful console produced if you don't mind waiting until November. The HD size of 2TB is nice but I've got a Western Digital 5TB external on my older xbox that works great and cost less than $100 so adding extra space is easy and economical compared to buying a larger HD on the xbox itself. As for the game. I'm not very impressed but got it for the co-op so I'll still play it through. The graphics are fine but the game play is very generic. If I was more interested in the story and multiple cut scenes it would have probably helped, but they didn't draw me in at all. I played the multi-player beta and thought it was awful so I haven't even bothered with it. . ... show more
