  • Love the darn thing
Size: 21" Self-Propelled Mower (5.0Ah)
Lawn guys come and go, and all my lawn can do is grow and grow. We live in the land of 0 radius riding mowers. I want about to spend $1000+ on a ten yo used mower "with minor issues." While this mower was pricey for us, it'll pay for itself in just a few months not paying someone. This mower is amazing! I'm 64 yo woman, I had no trouble at all on about 3/4 acre lawn that was overgrown because our yard guy had to quit due to health. I used to hate mowing... Actually mowing is ok, starting mowers is what I hated. It's quiet compared to gas mowers, I listened to music on ear buds only slightly elevated volume. So easy to start. Hold button down then engage blade with grip bar. Engage wheels with other parallel grip bar. Other reviews (perhaps other models?) some complained about waiting for wheels to engage/disengage. I had none of that. Instantly moved/stopped as needed. Also, if you want to freewheel it for maneuvering, just release drive bar, push forward a couple inches to release wheel locking (presumed safety feature) then push and pull as needed. The "throttle" is great, lowest setting an easy medium pace for me in tougher areas of yard. Then I can adjust faster for flat and easy areas. I think it would be adjustable for even those with long legs and a faster pace. Large wheels made small work of our somewhat bumpy and occasionally inclined yard. Powerful enough to easily go up those inclined (15%+-) areas without lagging, and went back down at the same pace so it wasn't dragging me. The charger got the battery from 0 to 100% in about half hour. I'll try to attach a before pic of how tall the grass was, and the mower never bogged down, cut consistently and evenly, handled it like a champ. I ran without bag since there was too much to cut. And we usually had the lawn guy run bagless anyway. The bag is rather small, so that might be an issue for some. No fuel or oil to bother with, no smelly exhaust, storing with it's space saving set up is great. I cut the 3/4 acre front, side, and back lawn areas in about 35 minutes. I'd go back out and edge, but our trimmer is gas powered 😉. UPDATE 4/21/24 Well I still love the thing... And now I'm 65. Still running great BUT battery is declining. It used to stay charged for the entire front and back yard about 35-45 minutes. Now it's lasting about 30 minutes. I guess it's just trying to be sure I get a break. Other than that, it's been cutting lawn, twigs, and making gravel out of small stones. You can see dings in the blade, which I'll probably replace before next spring, but still cuts like a champ. ... show more

  • A new era - why ever go back to gas?
Size: 42" ZTR
Pros: - Cut's good. - Very nice to have a charger station instead of removing all the batteries. - Solid construction on the unit. You can feel the quality there. - Looks nice. - Nice to use the batteries in other 80v Greenworks tools. - Far less failure points as compared to an equivalent gas mower. - Has a nice bright display screen that gives you error codes and some verbosity when errors are encountered. Cons: - I cut .25 acre using the 4 of 6 supplied batteries and had only 57% left on the batteries. Not sure if the 2 acre on full charge advertising is for all 6 batteries or not. - Instructions could use some work. Not very easy on the eyes. - The unit comes in a steel crate when delivered. You have to drive off the front of the crate. Problem is that there is a drop off when going off the crate that could damage the mower. They need to supply some ramps with the crate. Also, there need to be more solid coverage of the front of the crate so that the front wheels don't fall in the gaps. - Batteries are obviously over-priced as evidenced by all the off brand batteries at much less pricing that could work with the unit (though it may void the warranty). - Seat is not one of those air shock absorbing type seats but the seat is still of decent quality. - The Charging station seems to have a no automatic shutoff even when the batteries are all the way charged. I didn't see a power switch on it either so I simply unplug it when not in use. There seems to be a fan in the charging unit that continues to run even after the batteries are charged. It seems it would eventually result in premature failure of the fans. - I feel that the error codes would be more helpful if it also proposed how to resolve the issues. Recommendations - be sure to start with plenty of height if coming from a smaller deck. With a wider deck - you will notice how uneven the ground is much easier which could cause the blade to impact the ground if you cut to low. When driving the unit off the crate, it may be useful to use cardboard boxes of good size to build up a makeshift ramp. I didn't do that but seen a video where someone did and did it successful. Do that at your own risk. When having the unit delivered in the crate, make sure that the crate is positioned such that you have enough room to drive it off the front of the unit. If you don't, it is not easy to relocate the unit since this mower is over 500lbs. Also, since it comes with a charger make sure you have an outlet close by or a quality extension chord that can handle the wattage. In my case ,I think the wattage output was around 600 Watts, but please verify. I couldn't find it in the docs and therefore, I used a portable power station to ensure I didn't trip a breaker. So my reading is what was shown on the output of the portable power station. Note - this unit doesn't have the GPS tracking feature, so really I didn't feel that Greenworks Tool App was of value here. Other thoughts - how will robot mowers which are much cheaper than this unit compete in this space. They can cut lower in reality and you can sit back with your drink and watch. I got one of those also, gonna have more opinions on this soon. The robot mowers use razor blades. I think these larger mowers could do something similar and cut down on the weight and maintenance. But make the razor blades much larger for the system and if possible make it so you don't need to jack it up to replace the blades. ... show more

  • Well engineered
Just received this today so we really have not had much chance to use it. I am very impressed with the packaging and shipping. It came Fed-ex. They gave us a day and 2 hour window. They were spot on. It came in a fabricated metal cage with a heavy cardboard box inside the cage. Everything was well packaged. The only assembly was to mount the seat and the steering wheel and take the foam insulators out of the battery contacts. Good instructions and documentation written in English. Getting the mower off the metal shipping platform could be somewhat difficult without proper tools. I used a sawzall to cut the metal frame. Greenworks includes open end wrenches to remove the bolts, but you'll be forever using those to get the nyloc nuts off the long bolts. A ratchet, or even better a cordless impact, are almost required. 13 mm socket is needed. ... show more

  • Crap for the money
Size: 42" ZTR
After 3 months the handle broke off. Still under warranty now I'm expected to transport to repair facility? This is like 5k in weight do not spend 5k for this warranty is not good when you are supposed to transport this and do not have the means to do that. They would not even send the part to replace myself. Ridiculous. ... show more

  • Great Product
Size: 42" ZTR
Very easy to setup. I can do an entire 1.5 acres on one charge, I had 19% remaining to boot. Very rugged and durable. The instruction manual is excellent. My advice is to go slowly if you are new to zero-turn mowers. After a while, the controls become natural to the operator. I am very happy with the purchase of this product! ... show more
