  • Greenworks 60v Pro 18" brushless 4.0ah chainsaw
Size: 60V 18" (4.0Ah)
This is an initial review as it's only day one of using the chainsaw. To begin with I was hesitant to buy a battery powered chainsaw as I didn't think it would have the cutting power, battery life or quality materials to do heavy tree felling. If you are on the fence rest assure! This particular chainsaw is an absolute unit! It's overkill for trees 25" in diameter or less. I'm positive it will handle the stated 32" diameter trees with ease. (Assuming you know how to handle a chainsaw). Let the chainsaw do it's thing don't put your body weight down on the blade. That being said I still couldn't get it to bind up or stop on purpose. The chain is very sharp out of the box. I had no issues with cutting any party of the tree. (25' misc species dead tree) The saw came fully assembled and with the chain tension set correctly. Out of the box the battery had 1 of the 4 charge bars lit. It fully charged in 30min. Mine came with a 6 amp fast charger that has a cooling fan and automatic shut off when the battery is charged. No over charging A+. It comes with a tool to make all necessary adjustments and bar & chains maintenance. Note: after 2.5 hours of cutting the chain stretched about 5mm which is completely normal for a new chain. I tightened it back up and she is ready to eat. The chain break works very well and has a very positive click when it's engaged and released. When running the saw there is a split second delay when the power comes in and rotates the blade which is nice because it doesn't jump. The trigger is variable which is awesome as not all branches require a full power cut. The saw comes with only one dog on the inside of the bar that work well but for larger logs a longer dog might work better. A replacement dog can be easily made by a Smith. They might even sell a replacement dog for it I haven't looked as I don't think I'll need it. The chain never came off the bar the whole time even with serious cutting. This saw has plenty of torque on tap and some to spare and not once did I have chain issues. A+ The bar is steel and very sturdy. The automatic oiler works perfect already keeping the chain lubed but and never getting hot. Greenworks didn't have their own chainsaw oil that I saw so I used ego premium chainsaw oil. It works perfect in this saw. I read a lot of reviews about the saws leaking while stored. (You are supposed to empty the oil out after use) It's an auto lube system. There is no valve to close when not running. Just a hole and path to let out oil. Keep that in mind. After I used my saw I emptied the oil out so I never have this problem.) The 60v brushless motor ran flawless with the 4.0ah battery. Not once did I lose power during a cut. I have read that people say the 5.0ah battery out performs the 4.0ah battery but unless you are a commercial tree logger or work in a mill my opinion is you won't need it. Plus the next bump in battery power could run you hundreds of dollars more!! I'm retrospect I should have bought the 60v 16" or even a 14" the 18" pro is overkill for my needs. If you are doing heavy cutting with logs over 32" then yeah a larger bar & chain and possibly batteries are necessary. Based on today's performance I could have cut easily five 25' trees with 13" diameter trunks and a 25" palm tree stump of one 4.0ah battery plus chopping everything up to fit in trash cans. The only con I have that is more on me than on the saw haha is the chainsaw is 20.7lbs it's heavy! I lugged it around for hours and I'm sore haha. With health cutting though you need that weight so it's not a big deal. All in all I would buy a dozen more of these saws if I had the need haha they are great. I'm a believer now. No more gas chainsaw issues and maintenance. This saw is easy to clean and run. The size is perfect if not to big for the homeowner's need. This pro version is probably more for a professional tree service company. Running the saw produced no smoke, very little flying saw dust it shoots downward. Greenworks 60v 18" 4.0ah brushless chainsaw is a beast!!! So far, as I said this is a day one review. I'll update the review if anything comes up. Don't hesitate buy one! No I'm not paid to say this! I didn't wright reviews unless I'm overly happy with a product. Cheers ... show more

  • Great saw, easy to use and handle,
Size: 60V 16" (2.5Ah)
Got this chainsaw today, I already have 4 other Greenworks tools so I had high hopes this would be good quality like my edger, trimmer, blower and lawn mower. I was not disappointed one bit. It performed as well as my gas operated saw. I cut down a dieing willow in about 10 minutes, This is a beast of a machine. I love it and plan on getting as many 60V tools from Greenworks as possible. ... show more

  • Battery and charger are horrible
Size: 60V 16" (2.5Ah)
Disappointed with the battery and charger. I used this to cut down two trees back in November. I would have to take frequent breaks as the battery would overheat after about 20 minutes and it would take about an hour to cool down. I only used this chainsaw to cut the larger pieces as I had a different saw for the smaller pieces. A week later I cut down the second tree and during that project the battery charger stopped charging. It had a solid red light. I tried multiple times over several hours but it wouldn’t work. I waited overnight and the battery started charging again the next day. In April I attempted a third project and now the red light on the charger blinks and there is no charge. The battery and/or charger are now worthless after 3 uses over 5 months. I just called customer service and got disconnected after waiting on hold for 15 minutes. I would not buy again. ... show more

  • This Baby Cuts!
Size: 60V 18" (4.0Ah)
This is my fourth saw in my shop. I have two electrics and two gas. I cut 2-4 chords of wood a year for our wood furnace. The saw is light, has plenty of power to drive the 18" chain through 16" walnut logs, and (so far) is durable. The 60v battery has enough charge for me to cut wood till my back hurts, which, of course, is relative. This assumes I set the saw down and stack and prep more wood for cutting in between sawing. Did I mention the top benefits of an electric saw? No gas/saw stink on your clothing. No hard, stiff compression pulls to get the saw started (i.e. instant on), no having to mix and store gas. The saw comes with a heavy duty, fan-included charger. This thing is serious. It will charge the 60v battery in 45 minutes, maybe less. One note buyers should be aware of: The 60v battery packs a punch so the charger has special protections built in, such as temperature checking. If the battery/charger is cold, below 6 degress celcius, it will not charge. You need to bring it in the house and warm it up, but that doesn't take long. ... show more

  • Terrific home saw
Size: 60V 18" (4.0Ah)
This is a very powerful, quiet, and capable saw. I was concerned that 18” was more than a battery chainsaw could handle, but I have been impressed with its ability. First the drawbacks. It draws down the battery in short order. 10 minutes of hard cutting, but in that 10 minutes it produces. If you don’t have more than one battery, prepare to multitask. The high draw makes the battery very hot, which delays charging. Fortunately the supplied Greenworks charger has built in battery cooling, which speeds recovery. I really recommend multiple batteries (4-5ah). The challenge here is that the motor also gets hot during consecutive battery uses leading to thermal shutdown. Long story short, this is not a replacement for an equivalent gas saw that you wish to work continuously hard. The advantages: no bad gas, no gummed carburetors, no mixing, no leaking, no trips to the gas station, no pull-starting, no doubt as to if it will start. Very powerful , and with a good chain is the perfect saw for the home, where there is seasonal cleanup, trimming, firewood cutting, or especially just to have on hand in an emergency. If you already have the Greenworks 60v family, this is a great addition to your tool stable. ... show more
