After using a somewhat dull old (but dependable) electric chainsaw for a while, we took the plunge and ordered this battery-operated version. We were nervous about the amount of power a battery unit would have, but this delivered. It cut through our tree limbs like butter. Seems to hold battery power for a good amount of time (good for the period of time we usually use cutting up wood - a couple of hours). Tired of constantly rebuilding carburetors on my gas saws I got this 16" 48v batter version. Was not sure if it would be up to the task, but I was pleasantly surprised. Cuts through live or dead wood very cleanly, even logs wider than the 15" recommended max. Broke a couple logs down and took an old pine tree down (10 cuts total) and lost maybe one notch of battery power. If I had any complaint, I wish they offered one with the 5amp batteries, as those are what I use in my Greenworks lawnmower (and they hold enough charge on turbo to do my whole lawn). The 4 amps might not last as long and I would have gladly paid the difference in price (Note, got this during the Spring sale, perfect timing). So far works like a charm. We'll see how long before I need to replace the chain or how often I need to sharpen. I'll update if there are any long term issues. My mowers going on two years without an issue so optimistic.

I'm quite pleased with this saw within the obvious limitations of battery powered chain saws. Although other than the bar, chain, and whatever metallic parts there are in the drive system, it appears to be made entirely of plastic. I purchased this one mainly because it seems to be the only model with a two bolt fastening system to fix the bar to the saw rather than the all plastic bar tighteners on all the others I looked at. I thought I was getting a saw and battery with an additional battery to use when the first one ran down. However the saw will only operate with the two 24 volt batteries mounted together. I ordered another two batteries as back ups which raises the overall cost another $100. This is the first battery saw now added to my 5 saw stable and I'll be better able to evaluate it as I use it some more. The whole battery chain saw concept still needs more development and engineering improvements but this one seems to be a pretty realistic offering. Some of the advantages the saw has over my gasoline powered saws will be fully utilized and appreciated. While it cuts well with adequate power for about 20 minutes on the two batteries charged up full, the balance will take some getting used to. It will find its place along with my other saws in my routine of gathering winter firewood and tree maintenance; But the technology is not yet perfected and it won't replace the gas powered saws for some tasks. This is a very good homeowners saw for occasional cutting and windfall clean up. ****!

This saw lives at the border between a full heavy duty earn a living cutting wood type chain saw and super light duty I need trim a little branch twice a year chain saw. It has lots of power and battery for its class. Well balanced and demands little in the way of upper body strength to use it. The 24 volt batteries it uses ( 2x24 for 48 volts) offer a full half days work at about 150 cuts. Even better the greenworks 24 volt tool line is huge. Cuts about twice as fast as the dewalt 20v 12 inch saw and is about the same price. Its cheap enough to keep in your car for when your driving around and see some smoking wood you want to grab. Great chain saw for me.

I ordered this to cut up a tree that had fallen. I read the directions fully, noting that it said it required an oil refill with each full use of the battery. I thought that was unusual but noted, nonetheless. It made quick work of the fallen tree and I was done in about 10 minutes. I went to use it again for the 2nd time in 35 days to find a pool of oil had leaked from the casing (the split down the middle, not the plug) all over the drill case it was sitting on. It functioned ok, but this is NOT something I would expect from a new chainsaw. I don't have a problem if it is going through oil because of discharge, but to simply leak from the case is not acceptable. Unfortunately, the return date was 5 days ago, so now it is a manufacturer warranty issue. I recommend using it purposefully multiple times during that first month. If it is defective, you have a simple return method. Maybe mine was the only one, but I don't think it is.

Large Tree fell didn't want to pay 1k for removal. Bought this saw it handled the job no problem I did need to stop every few hours to sharpen chain,charge batteries but same with any saw. No messing with gas,oil mix..very good quality

I love this little saw. Charge is good for a little over an hour, Enough time to do quite a lot of small tree trimming. Its light weight compared to a gas saw. Very easy to handle . Its easy to get the saw apart to clean and remove the chain. I would recommend that if you intend to use it a lot get extra chains and a set of extra batteries.

I bought this primarily because I have other GreenWorks tools that use the 24V batteries for use trimming trees and cutting up fallen branches or the occasional treetop. If a full tree ever comes down, I'm fairly confident that I'd be able to cut it up, though it might be a bit slow to cut a sizable trunk into logs. I like that I can easily just grab it and use it from time to time as needed without the need to maintain a gas engine. I've had it for 3 years now and it seems like it is durable enough to meet the demands of my property for a while. It has one major flaw in that the oil reservoir leaks even when the saw is just sitting flat on its bottom side like it normally would, so makes a big mess where it's stored if I don't get all of the oil out of it. I may try to get a hanger that will allow me to store it vertically, with the bottom against the wall and the chain up, to see if that helps, as it appears to leak from the chain side. Either way, it shouldn't leak like this. When putting it to tough work cutting through large material, the batteries don't last long, but it hasn't really been a negative for me, as I bought it because I have quite a few of this battery. Overall, it's convenient that it uses my most common battery, but I'd likely try something different to avoid the oil hassle if I could do it over again.
