  • Great battery power.
Size: 14" Trimmer (4.0Ah)
***Edit #3, May 2022, going on almost 5 years*** Still going strong. As are both 40v 4.0ah batteries. Other than the bump head and thumb screw I mentioned previously, I haven't done anything. The nearly 5 year old batteries, I've purchased an inverter for them from Greenworks, and I now take them camping too, lol. I just did my annual pre summer yard cleanup, and it blazed through everything like a breeze. ***Edit #2, Jan 2021, after almost 3.5 years*** So this thing is still rocking. Battery is stil almost as good as new, it might die a little quicker, but better than i expected, no practical difference. Over the years, I've worn the bump feed button down. I searched for a replacement, couldn't find one. I called greenworks, and the told me the only option was am entire new head. And that was less than $30 shipped, and i had it in less than a week. Still definitely 5 stars. ***Edit after over a year*** So this is definitely a quality machine. I've upped it to 5 stars. I love this thing. It's still heavy, but i've learned to work with it. And as quickly as u can get things done with it, i don't care, lol. The only issue I've had is with the thumb screw on the shaft to tighten when changing attachments. It's stripped, though i may have overtightened it, and i change attachments regularly. It's a few dollar fix at home depot. And it still works anyways, i just have to be cautious bumping the head to feed line. 4 stars only because I've only had it a week. If the battery life holds up well over the long term I'll change it to 5. Has plenty of power, even on the lower power setting. Battery life is great (4ah battery). I edged my front and back yard (I'm in Florida and haven't properly edged my yard this year) with an edger attachment, and trimmed the entire 1/4 acre, on one charge. Mostly on the low setting. I used high power for a few spots with the edger. It ate through everything I threw at it quickly, some tough weeds and crab/St Augustine grass. The only con is it's heavy, as many have noted, and a bit awkward to position properly. Comes with a shoulder strap, but I'm having problems using it to actually bear some of the weight of the machine and still keep it positioned properly to operate, if that makes sense. I used it for over an hour, and feel like i did an upper body workout. Maybe that's actually a plus, lol. But I've only used it once, so maybe I'll get that figured out better with more use. But as far as performance, i'm amazed it's a battery powered machine. It ate everything. Bump feed works well. And still fairly quiet with low vibration. ... show more

  • I'll never buy another gas powered TRIMMER again
Size: 14" Trimmer (4.0Ah)
I needed a new string trimmer, because I was tired of my old Echo trimmer nickel and diming me for repairs every year. My neighbor recently bought a battery powered trimmer (not Greenworks) and he has raved about it. So, my research began, and it led me to Greenworks. It seems Greenworks G-max tools offer a good bang-for-the-buck, so I took the plunge. I have been very pleased. Here are my thoughts... Battery Life: battery life is surprisingly good. It will run for 50-60 minutes of cutting, with 85% of that time on grass using normal speed, and the other 15% on "turbo" for thicker grass and weeds. Personally, after 1 hour of trimming, I am ready to quit, so 50-60 minutes is plenty. Cutting power: Power for normal around-the-house trimming is excellent. I had no trouble cutting all around the house, edging my patio, cleaning around the end of my culvert, and edging my driveway, and I did it all in one charge. Trimmer head: So far, the bump feed head has worked really good. We'll see how it goes when I have to replace the string. Ease of use: Superb. No messing around, no fumes, no ear plugs required. Hit the power, and squeeze the trigger. I haven't used any other attachments yet, but It definitely seems like it would have the power to run, say, a pole saw trimmer for a short time on small branches. I have a brush cutter attachment also that I will try at some point for no more than medium size, non-woody weeds. I do not think it has the power to cut big, tough brush. In fact, there were several times that I tried to bite off a bit too much at one time with the string head, thick tough weeds wrapped around the top of the string head, and the motor instantly stopped and beeped at me. Apparently there is an overload safety built into the motor controller that will shut it down to prevent damage. No big deal, I just untangled the weeds, hit the power button again, and kept on going. I will use this cutter for grass/spindly weeds 98% of the time, and I couldn't be more pleased than I am for that purpose. If I had to give a downside: The manual is terrible. The English is bad, and it contradicts itself in several locations. Don't even bother reading it. Charge battery, insert battery, trim weeds. If you've used a gas powered trimmer and a cordless drill, you have all the knowledge you need to operate this trimmer. Greenworks needs to hire someone who uses English as there first language to write the manual. Here's a tip if you do try one of the Greenworks tools, like it, and want to expand your set of compatible equipment: Don't purchase just a battery. After I bought the trimmer, I also purchased the GreenWorks 24322 DigiPro G-MAX 40V Cordless 185MPH Blower/Vac with 4ah battery and charger. It makes no sense, but the blower/vac, battery, and charger combo only costs 20 dollars more than the 4 amp battery alone, whereas the blower/vac costs almost $100. 4 amp battery: $124 Blower/Vac + battery + charger COMBO: $145 Blower/Vac ALONE: $98 All prices are rounded, and were current at the time of my purchase. Your mileage may vary, but my point still stands. I don't think all homeowners should abandon 2 cycle motors yet, but based on the performance of this trimmer that day is coming soon. I plan on purchasing more G-max tools in the near future. There is an 80V line of tools from Greenworks (and other manufacturers) that may or may not be better, but for the money, the 40V G-max trimmer has been fantastic, and I don't regret saving the money over the 80V system. ... show more
