  • Great lightweight adjunct to a gas powered unit. Perfect trail saw. Very durable!
Size: 10" (2.0Ah) Gen 1
4/3/18 Update: Unit passed an extreme durability test! We were affected by the wine country fires which decimated our trail system. We have been using this unit as our go-to chainsaw for trail repair as it is small and light and works great for cutting steps and side stabilizers as well as clearing downed trees up to 8 inches or so. We were traversing a gnarly section of destroyed trail over a very steep slope. I set the saw down for a second to clear some debris and it slid off the rock I had set it on. It proceeded to bounce end over end 80 feet down the 55 degree slope before disappearing over a set of cliff bands. I was pretty sure I was going to need a new saw. We headed up the canyon and made our way down to the creek where I found the saw wedged in a stump. The blade was a bit bent, not surprising after its 150 foot tumble over rocks. I disassembled the blade and tried the trigger. It fired right up! I then pounded the bar flat with a rock (you do what you can :-) and reinstalled it. I proceeded to use it for the rest of our trail work that morning. Unbelievable. I think I will treat it to a new bar and chain though! Original review: I just gave the saw a nice workout doing some trail clearing. The summary is that it worked great. A huge advantage for trail work is that it is light so you can carry it in a ways. I was mostly cutting Manzanita (which is a very hard wood) limbs up to about 2 inches in diameter. It cuts quite well with some caveats. First, it operates at a much slower speed than a gas unit. This means as you start a cut it can tend to chatter a bit. You have to get into the cut carefully and then let the saw do the work as it cuts. You can't really press through it like you can a gas powered unit. The second thing that I noticed is because of the chatter, it is much harder to cut with the top of the bar. The third issue is that it really doesn't cut as cleanly as a gas unit, so I would be reluctant to use it for garden pruning. It may be my technique, but some of the cuts were pretty rough. I cut about 20 limes and still had 2/3 of the (large) battery left, so the battery life seems quite good. It does (as others have said) go through a lot of bar oil. If i had a lot to do I would bring an extra battery and a cup of bar oil with me. I have also cut some fresh doug fir with it. The diameter was around 8 inches and once you get into the cut, it is smoother cutting this softer wood. As I said before, you just let the saw do the cutting and don't bear down hard on it or it will chatter. In summary, I will be keeping my gas unit, but this is our new trail maintenance saw. Light, good battery life, it should go through anything we need in the way of small trees and brush. It is also nice that it doesn't get hot like a gas powered saw, so there is reduced fire danger, and you can toss it in a backpack without waiting for it to cool. ... show more

  • This chainsaw is a light and powerful wonder of a tool.
Size: 10" (2.0Ah) Gen 1
I have been skeptical about cordless outdoor equipment like chain saws, trimmers, and blowers. My bias kept me from even considering cordless equipment for my outdoor work for years. I ordered this chainsaw since I could not find a reasonably priced gas powered chain saw that was 10". This Greenworks chain saw has changed my mind. I have over 100 trees (walnut, hazel nut, pine, black locust) to prune every spring. Over the last 2 days I 'tried out' this little marvel. I was not tender with it. It has worked flawlessly with power I never imagined a cordless tool could generate. If I had gotten this gem a couple of years ago, I could have saved about $500 dollars and still gotten my work done. If it holds up, this will be the best piece of equipment I have ever bought. The chainsaw is light. I can maneuver it into very difficult places for equipment without effort. Part of what makes this so easy is that the machine is not running, unlike my gas powered saws, while I position myself to prune 'tricky' branches in a crotch of the tree. The chainsaw only runs when I want to prune. My gas powered machines are always running as I move from 1 location to another and as I get the right angle on a branch. The money saved on gas and oil may not be enough to pay the debt obama ran up, but it does save me pennies, and keeps the air a whole lot cleaner without generating the exhaust and smoke from my 2 cycle machines. So far, the chainsaw has had more than ample power for the pruning jobs I have this spring. I have cut a sample of the largest branches I will need to prune this year. The little wonder performed as well as, and perhaps a lot better, than my gas powered chainsaws. I am not cutting down whole trees but I do need to trim branches of substantial girth. Part of the reason some of the branches I need to prune are so big is from my not being able to work outside for the last couple of years due to medical problems. This is part of the reason I like the machine so much it is light enough and powerful enough for me to use as I rebuild my strength and stamina. It doesn't take tools to tighten the chain. What a time and labor saving benefit this is. A couple of turns on a couple of knobs and the chainsaw is back in service. The price I found on amazon with others it offers as well as other non-amazon sources is the best bargain I found. Some of the other chain saws list for a lower price but they don't have the battery and charger included in the offer. Amazon customer service is confused about whether or not some of their deals include a battery and charger. This Greenworks chainsaw page is clear: chainsaw, battery, and charger are all included. Some of the other brands mention battery but nothing about a charger and some of the other brands left me uncertain about what was included in the price. I called customer service but got nothing from it that clarified exactly what was included. Unless this chainsaw disintegrates on the next branch I try to prune, this is one of the best purchases I have made at amazon. Update: 3/21/18 I have been using this chainsaw for about 2 weeks now. When I get paid in a couple of weeks, I am going to buy another 1. It has performed so well, I want to have a replacement on hand in case something goes wrong. By going wrong I mean if I drop it or get it caught in a tree as it falls down and breaks or if I run over it in my car. I noticed some reviewers were not happy with the machine and I can only guess there was a problem with quality control at the factory. They must have taken all the bad hits because I can only report amazing performance from mine. I have double purchased a few remarkable items like a vacuum cleaner. I learned a long time ago that some treasures of manufacturing are only good for a little while as the companies go for up grades that are not or modifications that ruin the item. This is one of the best tool purchases I have made in 30 years on my little farm. ... show more

  • Works great!
Size: 10" (2.0Ah) Gen 2
Was able to take fairly large branches and trees down.

  • Perfect for my needs
Size: 10" (2.0Ah) Gen 1
Light weight, very sturdy and easy to use. I recommend purchasing a larger capacity battery as the one provided powers the saw for about 10 minutes. It does recharge relatively quickly but a larger battery allows me to complete a job without recharging.

  • Lightweight and easy to use
Size: 10" (2.0Ah) Gen 1
I bought this for tree timing and cutting down smallish trees. We have my dad's large chainsaw, which takes gas and oil, but I'm "petite" and also not experienced, so didn't want to use such a heavy saw. This one is perfect. It's large enough and powerful enough to do what I want to do, but it's not too heavy for me, and I don't need to mess with gasoline. I bought a small bottle of chain oil, and to it of when I need to. ... show more

  • Great for its intended purpose
Size: 10" (2.0Ah) Gen 1
I used the saw for some minor trimming work around the house, cutting limbs up to 12” around by 20’ long. I purchased two extra batteries to extend working time. My main reason for purchasing this is for ATV trail cutting. It fits in my rear rack storage unit with the extra batteries. I cleared about 900 feet of trails in two hours with it. I grabbed a fourth battery from our Greenworks weed trimmer and was on the fourth battery when I finished. Trees were saplings to 8-10” size. The saw cut easily and was enjoyable to work with. While definitely not a gas powered tree eater I enjoyed the quiet operation. I would definitely recommend this saw while stating that it has an intended purpose for smaller jobs. I would also recommend getting extra batteries if you plan on using it as I did for extended periods of time. The price can’t be beat as I feel I’ve already got my money’s worth! ... show more
