  • Good entry level scope Good entry level scope
Background: I am an intermediate birder and this is my first spotting scope. My goal was primarily use this scope for digiscoping with both my iPhone 8 and Nikon D7000. Overall, I think that this is a good entry-level scope. It seems to be a good value for its cost. Weight. I am a petite woman and this scope is quite manageable with respect to size and weight. It is well balanced in the hand and the surfaces have a nice non-slip textured feel. Optics. I have limited experience with scopes thus far, but I think that the 20-60x80mm optics are quite good. Images are much more detailed than with my Nikon Monarch M711 8x30 (of course) Carrycase. The carrycase is simple, compact and functional. I can extend the strap and wear it over one shoulder like a cross-body. Smartphone adapter. The smartphone digiscoping adapter is pretty easy to use once you get it set to your phone. I have my iPhone 8 in a soft rubber Otterbox cover and it still slips in pretty easily. The adapter secures onto the eyepiece with a dial fastener and it holds it quite securely. Nikon adapter. The camera adapter also seems to work fine with the eyepiece. Mounted together on a tripod, the entire contraption is a bit unwieldly for me due to shape and weight… I will need more practice with that. Covers. There are nice fitted covers for both eyepiece and lens. However, I have already expressed to the manufacturer that it would be nice to have them on leashes to the scope so that they don’t get lost. Tripod Mount. The mounting holes on the bottom of the scope fit easily onto my tripod. ... show more

  • Crystal clear images and smooth focusing.
This review is for: "Gosky 2019 Updated Newest Spotting Scope with Tripod, Carrying Bag - BAK4 Angled Scope for Target Shooting Hunting Bird Watching Wildlife Scenery...)" I used it recently to see the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction and was extreely impressed by the power and clarity. Of course to see images at that distance at any magnification you do need to use a sturdy tripod. Otherwise there is too much image-shake. Having said that, in order to temper expectations, I have to add that although I could see Jupiter and four of it's moons, and Saturn and it's rings, the images were extremely small, even at 60x magnification. (Please do not expect to see the planetary features (such as Jupiter's hot spots) with a scope such as this, or go in expecting images that look like pictures you've seen of any of these planets that have been taken by much more powerful telescopes.) The one thing that is difficult to get used to is the angled eyepiece. While the angled design is supposed to be useful for many reasons, including making it easier to look at objects in the sky, the line of sight is not intuitive. However, this can be said for all angled scopes so it does not apply to this particular one alone but it is a challenge, so I am mentioning it in case it helps. Overall, this is a terrfiic scope. It's extremely well-designed, easy to carry, and comes with a very useful carrying case. Focussing is extremely smooth which is important so as not to shake the scope and lose the image from the field of view, especially at high magnifications. If you're looking for a scope that is easy to carry by hand, to set up quickly wherever you go, and that will provide nicely magnified images of the moon, some planets, birds, wildlife, etc then this could be the scope for you. Hope you enjoy it if you decide to get it. ... show more

  • Pretty Good Budget Scope
My wife and I are bird watchers with some higher end equipment at hand. Recently I purchases a pair of lower priced Wingspan binoculars as a second pair and was so impressed that I decided to give a budget scope a try. I have to say that I am pleased with the quality of this scope for the price. This is far better than a budget Bushnell we own though not quite up to a higher end Celestron. Image quality is good with none of the problems listed in some of the lower ratings. This could be a quality control issue and if you get a good scope, you get a good scope. It's light weight and low price will make it out go-to scope for most travel, especially by air. Operation of the zoom could be a little smoother. The cell phone adapter works well, but the Nikon adapter is a little fussy to install on my 5100 and the camera errors "lens not attached." In fairness I have not tried to work out that problem, so there may be a solution. The external packaging was okay, but the internal packaging had a corner damaged. The scope and accessories were unharmed. ... show more

  • Overall a nice spotting scope for the price range Overall a nice spotting scope for the price range
I purchased the spotting scope for birding and bit of digiscoping. The product came fast, as promised. Setup was easy. I didn't use the supplied tripod, but you will need a moderate one (the scope is not heavy). As a scope, it's good, probably not top of the line, but pretty good for starters. From digiscoping perspective, two adapters are supplied - one for smartphone, other for dslr. Both are fairly easy to setup, I find the smartphone adapter to be more usable with my setup. The dslr adapter seemed bit wobbly with my Nikon D500. Picture quality is fair in the lower magnification range with plenty of natural light. Also, could see Saturn's ring and Jupiter with four Galilean moon from a light polluted city. Overall, at this price point, the product is excellent, specially for beginners. ... show more

  • Great optics...
Tested unit out. Great optics. Viewed a home chimney from a few blocks away, and could see every little detail. Viewed a bird feeder in my backyard (about 25 feet away) and could literally see every little piece of seed. Quite amazing. Easy to set up. The included tripod seems to be more than adequate. I like how the unit is designed. It even worked well at 60x. Just remember to adjust the eyepiece to your eye, and adjust the the focus knob, and everything will be crystal clear. Nice case, Nikon camera attachment, and mobile phone attachment pieces are all included. ... show more

  • A quality scope at a budget price A quality scope at a budget price
Likes: clarity is very good even at max zoom. Sturdy construction, simple focus and zoom. Dislikes: The included tripod is only good for tabletop use and is unsteady. The phone adapter is tricky to use but ultimately functions well. The camera adapter works but focus is hard to obtain. This may be a Nikon camera specific issue however. Still experimenting there. Summary: I believe you'd have to spend hundreds more to obtain a significant increase in quality imagining. A quality scope for a reasonable price. Recommended! ... show more

  • Unfortunate Unfortunate
The unfortunate thing about this scope is that there is so much chromatic aberration, or even just aberration that it can be really hard to see what you're trying to focus on. It doesn't matter how close or how far you're looking (though it does get worse the further away you look). You can get good pictures, but it has to be within 10 or so feet, but no closer than 8 because that's too close and it can't focus. And even then, if its too bright or anything, it does not look clear at all. The tree picture I included is a tree about 3 houses down from where I set up. The nuthatch and house finch photos are the same distance, 10 feet, but different brightnesses outside. You should see that the image of the birds is doubled and layered on top of itself, not sure what to call this but I don't think its chromatic aberration, much like the trees but not nearly as terrible. This is unfortunate since I was wanting to spot birds I can't necessarily get close to and this scope actually makes it harder to see the details than just eyeballing or zooming in with a cheap camera. I wonder if I just got a defective scope, but who's to say. I did see a lot of flack about the stand it comes with, but honeslty I have no problems with it. It's sturdy and good for a table setup. But if you want to be more portable, I recommend visiting your local Goodwill and getting a tripod there or buying one online if you're particular. ... show more

  • It's not garbage (except the tripod) but it's not good at all.
I was really hoping to like this, especially with all of the positive reviews. After unboxing, I could immediately feel how cheaply this was made. The outer finish was nice, but that's about it. It was very responsive to manipulations of both the zoom as well as the focus, but even operating those essential functions made it apparent how cheap the construction was. I understand I didn't pay $1500 for this thing, but this is certainly a case of getting what you pay for. The optics were okay. At 20x magnification they looked very promising. Cranking it up at 40x and it was already very apparent that these optics simply wouldn't live up to their potential. These would work if you're looking for holes in paper at 100 yards. Possibly even 200 yards? I was looking for something just a little higher quality. Also, treat this as if it doesn't come with a tripod because it's garbage. The carrying case was nice though. UPDATE: Since my initial review, I have been contacted by GoSky offering to replace the scope I had (in case it was faulty). They also offered a coupon off of their more premium spotting scope. I took them up on the latter offer and am pleased at the quality of this one. Added 1 star for customer service. ... show more
