  • The doorbell works!
Style: Nest Doorbell - Wired Color: Linen
I purchased this 2nd generation because of the doorbell malfunction from the first generation doorbell. I brought my first one exactly two years ago. The doorbell just stopped chiming. Well, let's talk about the installation of the 2nd generation. It was plain and sime to install. The directions went step by step with no flaws. The difference between this one and my two year old one is that this has a puck that attached to the chimer. As soon as I attached the wiring everything work. Yay! Night vision on the display is pretty clear. A few hours in...I am a satisfied customer. ... show more

  • Does not notify iphone of event. EDITED
Style: Nest Doorbell - Battery Color: Ash
After installing nest doorbell it worked for about an hour. I stopped receiving notifications of event like a delivery or neighbors walking by. It worked fine for the first hour but it stopped notifying me. I tried calling the help desk but as soon as someone answered, they just hung up, probably yoga time. What's the point in having this camera when you're not notified? The is general online help threads, but it's no help at all. The help thread just suggests to make sure you're online, your phone is on, and you have selected to receive notifications. I checked it all a million times, nothing wrong. I'm sending it back 👎 **At the time when I initially installed the doorbell, I was in a lot of pain, perhaps impatient. A few days later I reinstalled it and it worked. I was finally able to receive alerts. My only concern is that this unit is very easy to steal. I need to come up with a secure housing for it. ... show more

  • Wired 2nd generation doorbell review - no issues but one need to be handy to install.
Style: Nest Doorbell - Wired Color: Snow
Amazon review 9/15/2023 for the Google Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd Gen) - Video Doorbell Security Camera,720p - Snow. Note the reviews on Amazon mix variants together in one list. In a typical home, unless it's quite new, one will need to do a thorough evaluation of your current home doorbell system (assuming you have one). Very likely, your doorbell transformer will need to be replaced for sufficient power. Also, check your current chime manufacturer specs (search the model number on the Internet) to see that it will work with the new transformer (often a higher voltage than the original transformer). If it won't work, your options there are to not have a chime, or buy a new one. For mounting the doorbell itself, consider the surface for mounting and the angle. Often, you'll need a 3rd party vendor wedge mount of some kind, other than the one packaged with the door bell, in order to get the correct viewing angle. Lastly, take various wireless devices you own such as phones, tablets, even laptop computers to the exact mounting location for the doorbell to assess whether you have a strong WiFi signal. This can be a hit or miss situation, though. Once you go through the complete doorbell installation process, if the unit disconnects periodically, your only option is to get a WiFi signal closer to the unit. Most likely, you can't move your main router. Your options are to run Ethernet cabling to another WiFi Access Point that you purchase and configure, or perhaps a WiFi extender, or perhaps a WiFi Access Point and Powerline Ethernet devices back to your router. ... show more

  • I bought it 5 months ago and it's at 36%
Style: Nest Doorbell - Battery Color: Ash
It's fantastic. I've had zero problems with it, I connected it immediately and setup notifications on my phone to tell me when someone is at the door. It can be set to not pick-up foot traffic outside of a certain zone, and thus far I've had no problems with it at all. Pros: - The battery life is insane. I bought it at the beginning of June and it's now mid-September, and the battery life estimate is 36 days currently. The time to re-charge it would be maybe a couple hours on a USB-C connection, and I'll probably do that on one of my days off next month when I'm having lunch at home. - Notification speed. When I leave the house, I'm pinged on my Garmin watch within 1-2 seconds that someone was detected at the door. I don't have it setup to recognize me, so it just sees a person at the door, and I'm notified instantly every time. Same when I come home, I'm getting a ping before I even have my keys out. Cons: - The field of view is a little smaller than I would like. If you're quick, you can entirely dodge the camera by moving to the inside of my door. You'll still get picked up, but it's possible to not have your face detected. This is less a flaw of the camera and more the placement that I have to work with, but the option for more FoV in smaller areas like this would be great. - False positives are a thing. If you look at the camera at night by manually accessing it, the camera will detect the change in light from itself and notify you of motion. A little annoying, but you can turn off motion detection pretty easily which will solve the issue entirely. Overall, 5/5 stars for me. I use it every day and it's been an absolute life saver for someone living in an apartment complex with no ability to hard wire a connection. There's a no-drill mount you can get from Wasserstein, that is by far the best one I have found and it's wonderful. You will break the camera before you break the mount (I've had someone try once already), and it's held up wonderfully. Huge recommend on my side. ... show more
