I've been looking for something like this to carry a Kayak I plan to buy since my SUV didn't come with rails to mount a roof rack. I've been holding off on buying a fishing Kayak (I just retired) because my SUV isn't made to accommodate anything of that size. I didn't want to spend a ton of money having it retrofitted or buying expensive metal rails that clamp to the door frame. These pads fold up in a bag and mount so quickly with one strap each. They fit snug and don't slide around because of the rubberized non-skid coating on the bottom. I'm pretty tall so I placed mine through the grab handles inside the car to keep the strap up a little higher which gives me plenty of head room. I placed the surfboard on the rack for perspective so it isn't tied down in the photo, but you can see there's plenty of clearance between the board and the roof. I highly recommend these pads, especially if your car doesn't have roof rack rails. They are extremely well made and durable. I really like that they come off when you're not using them and fold up to store easily in the included nylon bag. BONUS: They also come with all the tie-downs and ingenious loops that fit in the gap of your hood or trunk to tie down your boat, board, or whatever. Product works great!! Easy to use for a 50ish aged lady by myself. Cam straps are strong and hold/lock tight. Kayak on top of jeep compass for 1hr each way , no movement, no noise, stayed tight!

The soft racks are made of sturdy tough materials. I use for my Kayaks and for hauling long wood from the local Home Depot. better than sticking out the rolled down window of my Subaru.

    • Product is a solid "meh".
The Pros: Shipping was good. It arrived a day before it was estimated to. It works exactly as advertised. Quick to set up and use. Price is very reasonable. Easy to store until needed. The cons: It came without any instructions at all. Fortunately, it's a fairly straightforward item. When secured to the roof, the straps definitely make it an annoyance to drive with. The straps create a gap in the door's weather stripping, and this creates a lot of noise when driving. In short: this isn't the perfect product, but it serves the purpose it is advertised to do at a price lower than a number of other alternatives. ... show more

No problems using this with a 2021 Honda Fit. Straps run inside the car and over the roof. Two hold the cushions onto the roof and an additional two can be used for securing the load onto the cushions. Straps are easy to tighten and stay tight. All go into a nice nylon carry bag when not in use.

This was an easy to install system for my roof rack. It protected my car, the sunroof and the kayak. The tie down system was great. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is that it didn’t come with instructions so I had to keep referring back to the Amazon pictures and the strap to secure the yak had a different buckle system from a typical ratchet strap.
