  • After about 20 office chair tries I sat in the one and I though I could hear Etta James... At Last!
Color: Black
It seems there are two theories in ergonomics. 1. Proactive: A device that holds you how your body SHOULD be. 2. Reactive: A device that holds you however YOUR body IS. This chair COULD and CAN be the first but if that is all you need then you could have picked up a $20 exercise ball for your desk and you would have been all set. This chair is definitely for the second type. If you are like me with repeated injuries to everything over many years, or height to weight ratio issues or whatever. This is your chair. If I did a video un-boxing and product review of every chair I have bought tried and returned over the last 3 months I could have a nice little income coming from a YouTube channel. Too bad I thought of it after I found the last chair I will ever buy. BAD and the UGLY: Boxing and packaging is ridiculous. It is so messy and fuzzy and crumbly and gets everywhere and it is over taped. The boxes look like they got wet then dried out in the sun before they used them then they double boxed the products with them anyway...? The boxes and packaging all sort of fall apart in my hands. It just sucks. If Amazon Basics packaging is a 10 this is a negative 10. This is the third item from this manufacturer I have purchased and they are all this way. I purchased this same item originally, and it arrived defective. Not to worry, though, these things happen, and I could tell it had real potential so I just shipped it back and ordered another. Only I accidentally bought a different chair that looks similar from the same manufacturer that is $300 more expensive. Oops! Since it was here I tried it out before returning and buying the correct chair. Same packaging oddities and while the controls were substantially more robust it was but not as nice of a chair, believe it or not. THE GOOD: There are only good things to say about this chair. Once you clear away the 5 layers of weird packaging it snaps together like an Erector Set (member those? I member!) It is Pretty. The pictures look like a black plastic blah. The photos don't do it justice. It is sleek and classy a touch of modern but not so much so that it looks like some Millennial is going to bounce around on it and not do work. It has a slim form factor but heavier readers do not shy from this chair! It will hold you correctly. Anyone smaller than 60 inches at the hips should not even hesitate; you will have a lot of room to spare. I am much smaller but the arm rest adjustments make it feel like it was made for me. The chair is firm but the leather is soft like a German car's seat. BANG for your Buck. The controls are better than any chair I have found in a chair under $1000 EXCEPT the other GM chair I purchased accidentally "GM Seating Ergonomic Executive Genuine Leather Chair Dream Chair Chrome Base" I would prefer the adjustments and control of that chair be put on this chair and I would gladly pay the extra $300 for it. But in terms of holding my beat up body correctly, I will take this chair design over the better controls. Just for fun I asked the owner, he picks up the phone by the way, and asked about the possibility of combining the feature rich Ergolux with the controls of the Dream. I'm light at 6'1 180 lbs but my friend David who has to duck to get in my garage liked it too. Although he sat in it for only a few moments he found the adjustments were intuitive, the only one I had to do for him was the headrest. My wife's friend checked it out too, she is the typical body type that can use proactive ergonomics and she liked it fine, too though she is not as particular about seating and David and I are. FEATURES: This is the most feature rich chair under $1000 I have found. First, I have to call Shenanigans on all manufacturers that call "tilt lock" when they lock you FROM tilting. That is poor English to the point of being false advertising. "Tilt lock" should mean that if I tilt the chair back I can then lock it there. I would prefer locking at any angle but this chair has set 3 positions that it locks in and a fourth position to swing freely that is tension adjustable. Additionally, when you have the chair locked in the chair still flexes with your body weight distribution and movement several degrees. I don't think I have seen this purposefully done in any other chair. Then there is the sliding seat, adjustable arms blah blah blah. Let me tell you about the little cut out do-hicky in the back. This is genius. If it isn't patented it needs to be, quick. It is hard to explain but let me try. Our bodies put pressure on the shoulders into the chair, right? Well most chairs high end chairs with a lumbar feature will have the LUMBAR part be what adjusts the most, and if it isn't what adjust the most then it probably doesn't adjust enough for most users. Now, think of a short stick and a long stick. One the end of the sticks there is a vice and at the other end there is a weight going across the end not in the vice. Which stick one is going to flex more? The long one, right? So this chair's lumbar support does move but it moves less but also in direct connection to how much pressure is put on the shoulders. Brilliant. That feature is the piece de resistance but the head rest needs to be noted as top notch among chairs in it's class and also the "kick out" arm rests so what ever angle to my screen I am typing at I can get the armrest under my elbow. The sliding back is cool but you will be irritated that the top click is actually the release that sends the back down to the bottom adjustment. I have to take my ergonomics seriously or I can't function. I have paired this with a $600 Apex sit/stand Adjustable Motorized 70x30 desk and two Amazon Basics gas monitor swing arms. To have found my full set up for what I need to work for under $2,000 is simply amazing. ... show more

  • I THINK this is a good chair.
Color: White
I may need to update my review, as this is only my 2nd day with the chair. OUT OF THE BOX Directions are folded in a little square stuck in a little pocket under the seat piece. Not hard to put together, but this is a heavy chair. Disappointed with the color as it is more creamy colored than white (which would have fit my office better). FIRST DAY My body completely retaliated against the way it makes me sit. However, I believe that is the point. I was sitting in a cheap executive desk chair with no ergonomic considerations whatsoever. Suffering from pain across my upper back, shoulders and neck. I sit for a living as a graphic designer... so this has been a bad habit for way too long. As the day progressed. I felt my shoulders relaxing, my neck popping into place and my posture correcting. The chair got more comfortable as the day went on. PROS Seat depth, seat height, arm rests, seat tilt, back height, back recline and head rest are easily adjustable. Good quality leather material. Deep reclining if you wish... could take a nap if you really wanted. I "think" it will get more and more comfortable. Firm seat for proper sitting. (If you insist on slouching you will not find this chair to be comfortable). CONS Do wish I had more control over the lumbar support... that being said - I find it to hit me in the right place. Not as "pretty" as others have claimed and as I said, I don't like the "white" as it is more cream. OTHER I am 5'5" and 125 LBs... I would say that the arm width is a bit wide for me and am finding myself not using the arm rests. Don't know if that is bad or good. The arms rest do pivot in and maybe that will help. SUMMARY UPDATE For those who said the seat was hard and hurting their rear... adjusting the seat to move forward a bit, so that more of your weight is on the back of your thighs instead of your tailbone area REALLY helps! ... show more
