  • Not as Described: Bottom spring-arm might as well be a fixed solid rod.
Color: Black Size: With Base
Aside from the cheap quality of the metal throughout, this lamp may work for you if you don't need much reach. It is pointed in the wrong direction--the bottom arm swings away from you and is rigidly fixed, unable to move at all. Other reviewers tell you to remove the screw that prevents the lower rods from rotating, but the manufacturer has reinforced the screw with a fixed rod that immobilizes the lower arm--its springs are decorative only; they will not move at all. This is obviously done by the lawyers to protect against lawsuits because the lamp tipped over and set something on fire or damaged something with its heat. I bought this because the switch from my old lamp finally wore out after 15 years. After seeing how cheaply made and unlike the deliberately misleading ad it was, “34 inch easy adjustable multi-spring balanced arm allows complete flexibility” I returned it. I went to Lowe's, spent $3.50 on a new switch, soldered it in place, and all is well. See photo below of my old lamp to illustrate how this type of spring-loaded desk lamp flexes at both the top and the bottom when properly made and anchored with a large heavy base. • Good light. Needs slight modification to fully articulate.
Color: Black Size: With Base
Minus a star because the lower joint does not move. See photo. In retrospect it should have been pretty clear that it does not move based on close examination of the pictures. But then why the springs on the lower joint? If all 3 joints were articulating then this would be a solid 5 stars. All in all this is not a bad light, especially for the price. Still, I'd like to find one just like it that is fully articulating. EDIT: Feb 2018 Up to 5 stars. After reading several reviews of this light on other websites, I discovered that others had gotten the lower joint to move simply by removing two screws. See photo. I suspect the manufacturer added these locking screws as a design "improvement" after several reports of the lamp tipping over. The new LED bulbs are much heavier that the old filament bulbs, and the lamp will tip over with even a modest movement of the lower arm. If you do remove the locking screws, test the lamp stability by giving it the wiggle test (push it slightly and see if the tendency is to return or tip over). ... show more

  • Returned
Color: Black Size: With Base
I'm returning this lamp. The lower half of the arm will not move unless two screws are removed from the bottom bracket. Screw removal leaves two open holes with circular scratch marks around them. I do not understand why the lower half of the arm is immobilized by these two screws. Lamps of this general design are normally free to rotate while in the base. This lamp has a thumb screw that prevents the swing arm and bulb/shade assembly from rotating. The base must be rotated to rotate the upper sections. I'm just guessing, but I believe the sheet-metal peg at the bottom of the swing arm and bulb/shade assembly that is inserted into the base is so flimsy that it might collapse after a few rotations. The attached photo shows the two screws that prevent lower arm movement. They are the screws with the Phillips heads showing. ... show more

  • CAUTION: Lamp with base does not have operational lower folding arms!
Color: Black Size: With Base
The lamps I bought were the ones with the metal base. However, the lamps were modified so the lower arms will not fold out. You can only adjust the top arms for height. The bottom arms for horizontal motion will not fold out. I needed this so I removed the screws that held the lower arms fixed. It became obvious why the screws were added. The base is not heavy enough to keep the lamp from falling over if the bottom arms are moved very far. The portion of the lamp with the bulb may only be moved about 1 foot past the center of the base before becoming top heavy and falling over. If you buy a lamp with folding arms, you expect them to fold! There should be a disclaimer in the description about not having functional folding lower arms. To get the full use of the lamp I will have to either add weight to the bottom of the lamp, or clamp it down by some method. ... show more

  • Garbage. Do not buy.
Color: Mint Size: With Base
This is a sweet-looking mint colored lamp... with zero redeeming values. The bulb cover is loose and falls off when adjusting the head. The reach is non-existent, it will not extend horizontally without mcguyvering a solution (I literally took the lamp apart and put it together again with some parts reversed so that it could extend in a meaningful way). The base is so light I have wrist and ankle weights strapped on so it doesn’t topple over when the cat brushes by it. For good measure I took the weighted base from another lamp and stacked it on top. I am so disgusted I know I’d just send it back destroyed and in a garbage bag, so I am just taking the hit. But truly not worth it, guys. Ugh. ... show more
