There are a few things in life that drive me crazy: in this case, things that have to be coiled. Measuring tapes for sewing. Extension cords. But there is nothing more annoying than a garden hose. Especially long garden hoses which I’ve always needed because I’ve always had big gardens. I haven’t had the need for the past five years as I’ve been living in an apartment, without a garden. Two months ago I bought a new home and it came with two 100-foot-long long, heavy duty garden hoses. Emphasis on HEAVY! The only way to coil them even close to neatly is to extend them fully out onto the lawn. Pain in the you know what. I began to dream about the retractable garden hoses I purchased for my last home. My only hesitation was that they would have have to be mounted to a masonry wall. Even as an experienced do-it-yourselfer with a good supply of power tools, that was out of my wheelhouse. Imagine my delight when I found the Giraffe Tools Ground Mount Retractable Hose Reel. I was skeptical. My home is built on Georgia clay and sand. I could barely get a shovel into it when I tried to add perennials to a neglected planting bed. A new, sharp shovel. Knowing that, I took the precaution of buying a $10 mallet to pound in the approximately 12-inch stakes that secure the framework to the ground. It was a miracle! I tested the stakes first and was surprised by how easily they went into the ground. They are heavy duty and did not bend. After that, all I had to do was attach the hose guide and the hoses. I did not extend it all the way because it started to rain, but I don’t expect a problem given that everything else was easy and as described! I would only add that it was half the price of the hoses I purchased before from a high-end catalog retailer. Definitely win-win-win!

We were tired of coiling up the hose every time we used it. In particular, our water spigot is located near plants and bushes. This made coiling the hose quite a chore. This Giraffe automatic reel makes it so much easier. I also like the ability to stake it to the ground rather than having to mount it on a wall. Some may complain about the 1/2 inch hose rather than 5/8 inch but think about it. The water pipes in most houses are 1/2 inch. It’s not a drawback at all. It also makes extracting and retracting the hose easier.

Just ok - it leaks and the hose kinks. I also can't open the door to clean the hose reel. For the price point I was expecting better quality. Update - a few days later the auto-roller no longer works. There is a cheap belt that holds it together that has fallen off the track. Will be trying to return. Don't waste your money!

Love this hose reel. I used to dread yard work because I have plants/ flowers all over my back yard and it was such a pain having to lug the hose all around and then fight with pulling it back in and wrapping it up once I was done. This is soooo much easier. You just pull it out to the length you want, give it a little tug to make it stay, then give it another little tug when you want it to reel back in. I will say, it goes fast when it reels back in so be careful with that or the hose may whack you in the leg (found this out the hard way). I knocked a star off only because the hose cannot be changed out. But that’s a minor detail and not a deal breaker. I also love that I didn’t have to drill holes into my house or fence post. It was super easy to install, just set it on the ground where you want it and hammer in the 4 spikes. I can now enjoy tending to my plants and flowers again.

Exactly what i was looking for. Its the only option for a self winding hose reel thats not mounted to a wall. Easy to install and the hose winds back in very easy. 100 ft was what i needed and it replaced a very difficult to coil up stand alone hose. Only downside is the hose is not thick, thinner than the average garden hose but it works well and there was a thicker option with the 92ft length but i needed the extra 8 ft.

We got this as we want to have things work more automatically as we age. Thought this would be great but it is very difficult to pull out even when anchored. I hope you are STRONG. I feel I got a decent arm workout just pulling out the hose Hose attachment is flimsy. 7-16-25. ADDING in about Customer Service: because of this review, I was offered a full refund by this seller. Then got a 2nd message saying “oops”. that was an automated response and isn’t a valid offer; then a 3rd message offering a replacement under 2 year warranty advising it’s working this way (more difficult to pull) because it’s a 100 foot hose Well, it's our fault we didn’t get to try it within time allowed for Amazon refund, but am irritated by the offer and rescindment. If you know it will be more difficult to pull with longer hoses, please say so in your future descriptions. The unit looks good and we wish it would function better with the longer hose. Please offer the full refund as we need to linger hose but not the workout.
