I have had plastic hose reels for years. They finally started falling apart and needed replaced. I purchased one of these reels for the back yard. After using it only once last fall, I purchased a second one for the front yard. I was impressed. Higher priced but worth the money IMHO. Heavy duty. I expect these to last a long long time.

This is a very good quality and sturdy hose reel. It easily accommodated my 100' hose with plenty of room to spare. It is heavy, but it needs the heft so that it stays put when I pull/unroll the hose. It has one achilles heel though. The winding mechanism is made of plastic. After using it regularly for little over a month, the hose guide had trouble switching directions; made a clicking noise and reversed direction way early - basically it won't wind evenly. What I noticed is that, at least on my unit when the plastic guide reaches the right side, it seems to seize on to the steel guides. For now I resolved the problem by putting on gobs of silicone grease - on the steel guides as well as the plastic threads. Works well, at least for now. Also, I try to slightly guide the hose if it is trying to pull in from a side. Not sure how long the mechanism will hold up under regular use.

Bought this product on Black Friday. I chose this sturdy metal product over the flimsy plastic products offered by their competition. When the product arrived, I noticed it was defective across the top. The metal was bent outwards which prevented the top from closing fully. I guess their quality control just missed it. I was now dreading the thought of having to repackage this heavy item and sending it back. I emailed their customer service department of the defective product on a Friday along with a picture. Within 36 hours by Sunday night, I was informed a replacement would be sent to me. Several days later I got a tracking number and the package arrived at my door. The best part was that I could keep the defective unit without having to deal with the hassle of a typical return. The unit itself performed as expected. The metal parts make it feel durable and the heavier weight helps keep the unit in place as I drag the hose. No water leaks thus far. It was definitely worth the higher price to buy a superior product and have such superior customer service.

I purchased the Giraffe Tools SW5 Metal Hose Reel Box this summer, hoping it would be a convenient solution for managing my garden hose. Unfortunately, my experience has been deeply unsatisfying. The product arrived with noticeable damage and was missing several parts crucial for assembly. This immediately raised concerns about its quality and durability. I contacted the seller, seeking an exchange, as I believed I had received a defective unit. Disappointingly, the seller's response was neither prompt nor helpful. They refused to offer an exchange, which was my preferred resolution - I needed a hose reel. I initially didn't want a refund; my goal was to have a functional hose reel box as advertised. However, the customer service team's failure to adequately address the issue left me with no choice but to consider a refund. The situation worsened when I realized the impracticality of returning such a heavy and bulky item without an easy shipping method. As a result, I am now stuck with a broken, defective, and unusable product. This experience has been frustrating and time-consuming, and it's disheartening to see that my experience contrasts sharply with other reviews, which suggests I received a flawed product. The media could not be loaded. This hose reel box works great. It appears to be built very solid and it winds up with the greatest of ease. The attached video I made for my wife to show her how easy it was to wind up our garden hose, which is 100' long, 5/8" Craftsman rubber hose - very heavy hose! With the hose completely extended out, I was able to wind it up without struggling at all. With our old hose reel we would have to carry the hose back to the reel and wind it up in short sections by setting each section of hose up just right so that it could be wound into the reel - and even that was hard to crank. The old one was plastic; this one is metal and it makes a world of difference!

I'd say I have been through about 15 of these type hose reels. You know the type, plastic container and every part inside is plastic and they generally last a couple of years before they are faded and look terrible, then something on the inside breaks and you throw it away and repeat the process. This time I decided to spend just a few dollars more and get this metal version and I couldn't be happier with it. Everything that matters in this product is made of metal- the outside, the reel itself and most pleasingly, the angled hose attachment on the inside at the reel. The plastic ones always break or get cross threaded, so this one is perfect. The outside connector where the 5' hose attaches to your hose bib and the reel is a great design. The hose itself is soft, flexible rubber that doesn't kink easily like so many others. Where that hose attaches to the reel/cart is a great design- instead of having to screw the male end of the short hose into a piece of plastic, this is a clever design where you push the angled connector in, give it a twist or two and it locks into place. Then you further lock it in by pushing down on a lock. Best of all, this thing does not leak at all! Not one drop, so you get all the water pressure you should because you're not losing half of it due to various leaks- outside the cart or inside at the reel. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with this product.
