  • good product, good price - impressed for once.
Style: Chain 500
yes it's just a garage door opener but WOW. Great price, very quiet compared to my last one, easy install. Very impressed at this price.

  • Easy to install and quiet in operation
Style: Chain 500
The instructions provided for installing this unit are good. It is an easy job that can be done by one person. Compared with an older Craftsman opener with the same power rating, it is much quieter in operation and operates smoothly. I have heavy wooden garage doors, so if I were to do it again I would opt for the 3/4 hp unit. ... show more

  • Basic but works well
Style: Chain 500
Basic garage door opener but works well and not difficult to install. Is quite a bit quieter than the 12 year old liftmaster that this one replaced. Took out one star for Amazon not checking the used item that I purchased was missing the garage door sensors but got some separately and everything worked together well. The online video was super helpful for installation. ... show more

  • Great Opener
Style: Chain 500
Perfect replacement as my last one was taken out by lightning. Isn’t to loud for me and works well just like the last one. I still like chain drives vs belts.

  • Excellent installation instructions, straightforward installation, quiet operation
Style: Chain 500
This 1/2 HP garage door opener is a fantastic value. My mom was quoted $1800 by the local overhead door tech to replace the springs and motors for her two single-car garage doors. She was antsy to have it done and almost paid it, but I got two of these for $138 each, and just got back from installation. We weighed the doors on a scale to make sure it was within-spec of the motors (they were: springs were fine) and we were able to re-use the optical sensors and wall-mounted button (and their wiring) from the old unit. It took under 3 hours for the first one, and way less for the second. I am super happy with this product, and saved my mom $1500. This opener even auto-programmed itself to recognize the old remote, so now we have an extra. ... show more

  • Opens/Closes quietly and smoothly
Style: Chain 500
Have been using for about a month. My husband had help installing it. So far so good. It’s very quiet, opens and closes smoothly.

  • Very quiet, shorter than my last opener
Style: Chain 500
I replaced my last opener after the gear snapped of its axel. This unit was easy to assemble and I replaced my old unit in about two hours. Fortunately, I have angle iron and had some flexibility to where it's mounted. This is because it sits about a foot closer to the garage door than my prior unit. The only issue with this was the cord was too short to reach my existing outlet. I sovled this problem with a 6" extension cord. All "smart" garage doors are a unreliable, and will stop working with the company decides they are tired of running their cloud service. I use a raspberry pi to make my garage smart. It worked fine with the last opener and fine with this one too. It simply closes a relay to simulate pressing the garage button. ... show more

  • Basic model, but does 100% of what's needed
Style: Chain 500
Had 2 Craftsman openers that were 22 years old, when one failed (gear shaft bearing broke). Decided to replace both, and could not be happier with choice of Genie models. Previous units were 1/2 HP, and new units are also 1/2 HP. More than enough oomph to lift single, 80 lbs doors each. When deciding between belt drive and chain drive, you need to also take into account noise sources from doors, tracks and rollers. If these are noisy, paying more for the quiet belt option is wasting money. These chain drive units are exceptionally quieter than the older chain models, that I don't know how much quieter they could get with belts. Installation was a breeze. Instructions exactly depicted steps involved in installing. Was able to reuse the ceiling mounting brackets and down-braces, although these units were shorter and narrower than Craftsman units, so the down-braces are slightly canted in and forward. Units do not come with outdoor keypads, which is a good thing (not needed). Installed MyQ sensors and app on cell phone to control from outside when necessary. Syncing sensors to openers was a breeze. Only anomaly during installation was that one of the obstruction sensors mounted near the floor kept flashing red, but after everything was finished, it corrected itself and works fine now. Was able to reuse the door mounting bracket and L-bar that hooks the trolley to the door, saving a little effort during install. Be careful when setting up and down travel limits; it is possible to drive the trolley into the opener when setting up limit (i.e. going for max opening height). All in all, clearly a 5 star winner. ... show more
