UPDATE II: After months of waiting for Chamberlain to fix the video delete function, they finally did it! I’m now VERY happy with ALL of my Chamberlain/MyQ devices and rate them 5 stars. I only hope the app developers learned a valuable lesson…IF IT AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX IT! UPDATE: my original post stands, and now for the reason I changed the rating to 2 stars: The software engineers and/or App developers put out a change to the already-working-just-fine MyQ App which removes the ability to BULK DELETE videos. You can only delete videos one-by-one, which, if you have 50, 100 or in my latest experience, well over a hundred recorded videos, you’ll spend 30-45 minutes or more, clearing videos from your storage account. The only other option is to delete them every single day, which is another pain in the burro. And here’s the kicker…Chamberlain has known for several months that this is a HUGE issue for users of their camera products, but has failed to fix the App in spite of too-numerous-to-count complaints on the App Store reviews. Chamberlain told me two months ago that they were aware of this problem and were working to resolve it. BULL! Two months later and it still isn’t fixed. All they had to do was issue another update, turning back the clock to the previous version. They aren’t fixing anything because, hey, they got their money for the cameras, so why fix anything? PREVIOUS REVIEW: This video keypad is fantastic in all respects but one, which I will address later in this review. Video quality is great, audio is crystal clear and easy to communicate with delivery people, etc. I’m glad I opted to upgrade from the basic keypad I’ve had for years. Setup was easy as well. Now for the shortcoming: although the battery lasts quite a long time (mine has been going for over 3 months before needing charging), it takes 10+ hours to recharge. That means no keypad or surveillance available all day (or night if you’re charging at night). And, to my knowledge and experience, the only way you’ll know the battery needs charging is a notification on your phone that the keypad is off line. To solve this issue, one must buy a second battery, keep it charged up, and swap batteries when the active one goes dead. That’s a $30 expense that I would rather have not had, but the alternative of no video surveillance and no keypad leaves no choice. And that’s why I gave this otherwise stellar device 4 stars instead of 5.

Okay, so set up was fairly easy, easy to switch out existing keypad. This is after you discover that you need to charge the battery for at least 10 hours. So after it was installed, I discovered that it does not work with Alexa or Google home. Seriously?! Appears that they failed to update the listing and web searches fail to mention that Chamberlain discontinued that service fairly recently. So you can only view from your phone. You can only get alerts from your phone . Wtf. So you will need to have your phone set up to receive notifications . Also , if you want to see past events you will need to buy a subscription. So you get a notification on your phone that there is motion , you open app, click on the icon and wait… nope nothing there… so what set off the motion? You may never know! ( even if you have the subscription you can only see up to a week worth and no way of downloading that I found) . Not a huge dealbreaker, I mainly wanted a new keypad and it’s nice that you can assign different codes for family members or temp codes for guests, repair persons etc. But here is where it all goes horribly wrong. I have only had this installed for a month!!! Battery life sucks big hairy monkey balls! It started off that I had to recharge the battery after a week. Listing said 6-12 months. So I contacted chamberlain. They said that I needed to adjust my motion sensitivity. It was already low and since I could never see what set off the alert anyway, I turned motion sensor off. Still had to charge the battery in less than a week. Called chamberlain again. They said it was because my wifi wasn’t strong enough. So I got a repeater so wifi to remote keypad 100%. 3 days later ( again, without any notification about battery low or dead) ( you only see an “unable to connect to keypad” when you open the app!! And it still doesn’t say dead battery it gives you 10 other things to check first!!!) Recharging battery is a PIA. You have to be out in the weather( think freezing rain and wind, heat, snow, etc.) you have to unscrew and remove from the keypad holder, remove the keypad, remove battery and charge for at least 10 hours then hook it all back up and reconnect wifi, reconfigure all settings, codes, adjust the camera … everything!!. Chamberlain states that the warranty does not cover the battery and suggests buying a new one . Which costs MORE than the whole damn thing. So… just another present for the landfill! I will never buy another thing from chamberlain as they do not stand behind their products!

Every single negative review is user malfunction and lack of knowledge Been doing garage doors and openers for 12 years I’ve had a gen 1 version of this on battery since it came out obviously if it’s cold the battery drains faster then summer but I maybe charge mine 3 times a year It is not supposed to be used 20 times a day to open and close it is for the video security if you need it and a once in a while need to open the door

This particular My Q product preforms as needed,it synced well with the garage door and makes it easy to open and close the door. Plus the camera on this product works well even without the subscription cost of the my Q service. This device functions way better than the doorbell camera, it does however still suffer from the poor app that goes with it, the app is slow, loads poorly and loses connection too much. Overall this device functions well for its purposes.

I bought this product in July 2023. This was a very nice replacement and upgrade from the original numeric Genie keypad. The video resolution is OK for close-up shots. Due to its high compression rate, the quality isn't suited to show details beyond 10 to 20 feet away. The microphone picks up a ton of noise, as well. I primarily use it, alongside the MyQ app, to control different access codes and their validity periods for different people. I've had long trips during which service people could enter my garage for scheduled pest control or inspections. I've had neighbors moving delivered packages into my garage while I was gone. This product is also perfect to enable Amazon delivery to the garage. Generally speaking, I've used it for over 2 years now, and it has delivered what it's supposed to do, except one thing: The security screw at the bottom is a pain! Over the 2-year period, every time I wanted to take if off the cradle for swapping charged battery, the tiny screw got more and more difficult to remove, until this summer of 2025, it was completely stuck. I don't know if the outdoor temperature of 100F had a negative impact. I could not unscrew the security screw no matter how many traditional methods I've used -- rubber band, steel wool, extraction kit, etc. I watched the remaining battery draining to zero over the next month, but couldn't take it off to swap the battery, while still paying for the video storage in the cloud without a functioning video keypad. Eventually I had to resort to brute force -- cutting off the bottom part of the cradle to free the keypad with the screw still attached. With the screw a bit exposed, I spent 10 minutes to use a plyer with a good grip to unscrew it. It was so firmly stuck that the entire metal screw housing came out with the screw, rendering the "security feature" completely off. Other than that, I quickly replaced a charged spare battery and put it back in the cradle, although I had to be a bit creative to use a duct tape to seal off the gaping hold at the bottom. Guess what? It works for now. I was initially hoping to get the screw out and replace it with a thumb screw for easier operation, but oh well, now that the metal housing is gone, there's no point to try to replace the screw + cradle. So take this as a precaution if you want to install this product. Get a M3 8mm thumb screw instead of using the security screw that came with the product. There's always a balance between usability and security. Unfortunately MyQ is too "secure". I get it that you don't want the product to be easily stolen. To be honest, anyone with a tiny screw driver could easily take this product out of the cradle. Of course after 2 years, it'll get stuck, and not even the owner can take it off any more. Is the security screw necessary? If anyone wants to steal your keypad, their headshots would have been captured and saved to the cloud for the police to watch with enjoyment. Anyway, I've attached some photos of unboxing in 2023, and frustrating process of cutting the keypad out of the cradle in 2025. If I ever get another one of these, I'll make sure that I don't use the security screw that comes with it.

Overall this is a good product. It connects to my lift master opener with no problems. My main issue with this thing is that if it it stops connecting, you have no way to reboot it from the app or phone. You have to actually remove the battery to reset it. That is a major inconveniance especially if you are not home. Also it is of course another subscription to pay for to get the video. Overall 3 stars.

Here's the deal folks. This video keypad is awesome IF and ONLY IF you HARDWIRE it! If you are just going to use the batteries, forget about it. Get another one. But if you hardwire it, it is flawless. It works great. Has a great picture. The keypad works great. I have nothing bad to say. But if you're using batteries, you will be changing them often and it's just not worth it.

The WiFi connection is always too weak to maintain a reliable connection to the point where I had to purchase an ethernet connected WiFi-6 access point and place it at the closest location I could within my house (that has a window and only one wall between it and the keypad). Even with this network upgrade the keypad can only manage 2 bars of wireless connection strength and frequently goes offline. I cannot rely on an intermittantly available garage door keypad which has to be used every day by my family and extended family who lives nearby. I purchased the hardwired version/upgrade kit to avoid battery replacement like I had with my OEM Genie keypad. However, now that I cannot rely on this poor excuse of technology myQ, I modified my OEM Genie keypad to now be hardwired for less than $10. I asked my family which keypad they tend to use and they all said the older Genie keypad. I asked why and they said because it always works. So, you might be thinking the myQ is still worth trying out because it has a camera and an app-based calling/communication feature via the keypad. From experience, I can tell you these features have never really been useful because of the limited WiFi connectivity, a required subscription service to take full advantage of the camera recording/playback features, lack of motion detection notifications (oh, it has those settings enabled, but they just dont work because I never get notifications... the myQ garage door open/close sensor sends me notifications but not the camera). Whenever I get notifications from my primary security cameras (Reolink), I will sometimes try to view the myQ garage keypad camera to get a different live view perspective. The problem that I also have encountered is a significant delay in connecting/viewing the live feed from the myQ camera. Sometimes requiring multiple attempts to connect all while the standby camera image shows 2-bars of WiFi signal. By the time I can view a live feed the activity is out of view or no longer relevant. (My Reolink cameras are nearly instant or occasionally delayed by 1-2 seconds.) The myQ keypad is a complete waste of time and money, and I get 1000% more satisfaction out of using my modified/hardwired OEM Genie keypad with a Reolink security camera system that actually works without the subscription fees. Why pay more money to a company that cannot deliver what they advertise/promise. Avoid this MyQ keypad if you want to keep your sanity.
