FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

I am a very handy guy and have worked on cars and houses most of my adolescent and adult life so I was not afraid to tackle putting up a new garage door opener when my old one finally died. I did my research, looked for one that work work in a modern, automated home, and settled on the Beam BU800 Centurion. I picked the model because of its features, motor sized, linkage type, price, and customer reviews. This one checked all the boxes. I ordered it and promptly let it sit in the box in my garage for the next six months! LOL! When I finally got around to putting it up, it was easy to put together and the instructions were pretty easy to follow. I was able to use my old garage door openers ceiling bracket, garage door bracket, and track bracket over the garage door. I had the new Beam BU800 up in less than an hour. I followed the programming guide and set both my upper and lower limits and the automatic force programming worked just fine. I then did a test run and the garage door opened smoothly and with out issue. However, when I went to close the garage door, it would only move it about three inches and then stop and sound a series of warning beeps (20 to be exact). I tried it again with the same results. I reprogrammed it and tried again, same results. At this point, I decided to contact Beam Support. I quickly video the opening and attempted closing of the garage door, attached it to an e-mail and set it Beam support on a Sunday night around 8:30 PM. The next morning I had a phone call from Beam support and I walked the engineer through the issue. They had me check the beams, then they had me over ride the automatically learned force setting to apply more downward force. This did not fix the issue. They asked that I make sure that there was no binding with the rollers, they were properly oiled, and that the tension on the torsion spring was set right. Instead of me messing with the torsion spring (for those who don't know, they are very dangers and can severely hurt you if you are not careful) I called my local garage door company (who installed the garage door when we build the house) and they came out made some adjustments (because it was a little stiff) and even helped me "troubleshoot" the opener. They agreed that it had to be something with the garage door opener itself. I contact Beam Support again and this time they said they were shipping me out a new logic board to replace the one in the BU800. It got here yesterday and before it had even been delivered, Beam support reached out and asked if I had received the part and if I needed their help to install it. I did not have the part yet and did not know it would be delivered later in the day. When it did come, I e-mail Beam Support to let them know it was here and asked them how they wanted me to replace it. They sent detailed instruction on what to do. It took me about 15 minutes to remove the old logic board and replace it with the new logic board. After it was replaced, and before I put the engine housing back together, I programmed the up and down limits and the force and ran a test cycle. VIOLA! It worked just like I expected it to!!! I ran probably close to 10 additional cycles just to make sure it did not have any issues. It worked every time just like it should. I know may of you will read this and say "it should have work out of the box" and while that may be true, you never know how something was handled at the warehouse or in shipping so I cannot fault them for it not working. What I can do is praise them for having fantastic customer service and never ignoring my requests for help. They were Johnny-On-The-Spot and helped me get it working as advertised! The product is much quieter than my old chain driven open, works with my home automation system and has all the features I am looking for. I would highly recommend this product and this company to anyone who is looking for a good, powerful, quiet, product that comes from a company that will stand behind its product! And no, I was not paid to write this nor did I get a "sample" product to review. I purchased this with my own hard earned money and I am will say it was worth every penny!

Amazingly simple to install

As a homeowner who has never installed a garage door opener I was a bit intimidated taking this on. It is not perfect but it is pretty close. I installed it alone, without help and with one exception the manual is outstanding. I have two, well maybe three, complaints but they are minor. On my first attempt to install I followed the instructions to a tee. There was a page explaining how to install the chain followed by a page explaining how to install the belt. When I got to the chain install I discovered I had no chain. Believing the chain was for the gear assembly and the belt connected to it I called support to discuss the missing part. Support did call back but argued with me saying to return the product to the seller (Amazon) rather than providing a fix. Only after telling them it was assembled and return was not an option did the technician mention that the units are chain or belt driven. There is no unit with a chain and a belt so he then said to skip the page about chain install. Didn’t care much for his attitude. This leads to complaint number three. If you send a manual covering multiple units and some steps are not relevant, say that. The page with “chain installation” should have a huge notation saying “if your unit is belt driven skip this step”. Probably not needed for someone who installs openers everyday but for a homeowner who does this once a decade it would help. My additional complaint is also minor. The clips for installing the new wiring are garbage. Too small to use unless you have the hands of a child. I bought a low voltage wire stapler after getting frustrated with the tiny clips and turned a three hour frustrating job into a fifteen minute simple task. Don’t wast your time with these wire clips. BeemUp, don’t send this junk. Recommend a stapler for low voltage wire or include one as an option ( Amazon does offer them) Overall this is an excellent product. Install is easy for one person (if you understand the error in the instructions and have the proper stapler). The average homeowner can complete this in a couple hours. It is smooth, quiet and programs easily. Haven’t tried to connect it to the factory garage door openers in my car but I expect it should be easy or tech support can provide an answer if the tech comprehends what you are saying.

Too good to be true?

I ordered this back in November 2021. I was sold by the great reviews and the Alexa capability built in. I was a little weary due to it being a new company. It sat in the box for months till we closed on our house. I installed it this weekend, and right off the bat, the instructions are weak. The online video has no words or captions, and the paper manual barely gets you by. Nevertheless I was able to get it installed. Once I did that, only one LED worked, it looks to have 3. Also the motor got extremely hot, almost unsafe, and while it brought my door up fine, dropping the door was a nightmare. The rod bowed and it was all over the place. It didn’t seem stable or strong at all. I ended up going to HD and buying a Chamberlain which this seems to copy a lot of the parts, and that installed well and has none of the issues. This was quiet and easy to install if you have done it before. I’m sure I got a bad unit but I wasn’t willing to give it another try.

Update to this: The app for this brand is complete garbage. Took off a star for this. The app only works about 1/2 time at best. It will tell you that you have tried too many times to open it and tell you that you have to open it with a remote. I finally got tired of trying to use the app to open and close the garage and bought another remote (although their remotes are crazy expensive compared to other brands, and other brands won't work on this at all. Even though the remote has the same frequencies) The app also won't work at all on Android Auto in my truck. The app also quit telling whether or not you left it open or closed. Occasionally the app won't work or report at all for an entire day or two, then all of a sudden it works again. The keypad is also not the best in the world, have to be super patient and press the numbers perfectly (like the right pressure and speed) or it won't open. My wife can't ever get it to work, and it works for me about 80% of the time. (finally yanked off their app controller and installed another brand of app controller that actually works with Android Auto, Apple Car Play, Google, Siri, Amazon, etc.) This review is for the 800 model with belt drive. Unit came with keypad, 2 remotes, wall panel, and Wi-Fi panel. Other people have said the Wi-Fi didn't work correctly. I didn't have this issue, but of course you'll need 2.4Ghz network to set it up. The only weird thing setting up the app and Wi-Fi is holding it up to your phone screen while the screen flashes in order to set it up, but it worked perfectly the first time. The only other issue I had is the sensors for the door weren't lined up perfectly, and this created an issue to set the open and close limits on the door. Make sure you're sensors are solid red and solid green prior to trying to set the open and close limits. Everything seems so be working correctly and no issues. Even got home link working with my wife's vehicle on this garage door opener. It's very quiet and very straight forward setup. Just take your time and read all the directions that pertain to your model.

super quite

took a chance on a brand i had not been familiar with. glad i did, this opener is really good (so far) i installed yesterday (took about 4 hours) i was shocked at how quite it was. really smooth! easy instructions to follow. i purchased the BU800 model. set-up was easy, 1 person can do the job (and a 6' ladder) programming was easy, and i really like the wi-fi feature on my phone. awesome package, thanks "Beam UP"

All the bells and whistles

Ordered this unit to test its capabilities and functionality. Performance is outstanding. Only option that I didn't get was the battery backup (only lost power a few times in 5 years). The other options are a must have imo. The connectivity is second to none. AS LONG AS DIRECTIONS ARE FOLLOWED FOR THE WIRELESS PROGRAMMING, EVERYTHING WORKS PROPERLY (I say this as I tried jumping ahead twice and it cost me extra time). Phone app works great. Easily programmed to my Prius (try option 1 first using the remote). These were so fantastic, that I ordered 2 more for my other 2 doors. Installed both in about 3-4 hours. Biggest plus, no pay wall like I saw with other brands. This is my go to brand if I ever need openers in the future.

Forget the smart features

The BeamUp Centurion works well as a basic garage door opener. It's super quiet (but I imagine that true of all belt-driven openers). The LED light is nowhere near as bright as their marketing suggests--it's like a normal opener light. It also usually fails to turn off, so it may be an energy-efficient design, but not if it stays on constantly! But the WORST PART is that if you are at all buying this product for the smart features, DON'T. Because they literally don't actually work. It might work once or twice, then it disconnects itself from the cloud (see screenshot) and refuses to reconnect again until you open and close the door with the wired manual button (often you have to repeat it multiple times). Then the app may work again for a cycle or two of opening and closing the door before it disconnects again and the process repeats. The smart features are worthless if you have to manually operate the door every time you want to get the app to connect! Also, because of this disconnection failure, the integrations just don't work at all. IFTTT may work once or twice, then the opener disconnects and the integration fails. I could never get Alexa integration to actually connect even once. It was the promise of native Alexa integration that made me buy this in the first place, and now that I paid to have it professionally installed, I'm stuck with it. The smart features are implemented by an add-odd device that plugs into the opener main unit, rather than being built in. You can buy a universal aftermarket unit that provides smart features (it works by electronically triggering the in-garage manual door open/close button, so it works with most any model). Meross makes it, and it works infinitely better than the junk smart-feature implementation in this BeamUp unit. So buy whatever basic dumb garage door opener best suits your needs, then add the smart features to it with a Meross smart controller. Much better solution! Wish I knew that before committing to this thing.

Pretty straightforward

I was worried I was going to screw this job up converting from an old Sears chain driven to this fancy belt driven with all the remotes you can handle but honestly, the installation was very straight forward especially by watching the installation video on the tube. This is a lesser known brand but has some really good reviews and great features and so I took a chance and so far, so good. Plenty powerful for my 16 ft insulated door and a whole LOT quieter than my old beast which was over 30 years old.
