I was able to configure and install two keypads and two cars for three different openers in about 45 minutes. Worked beautifully with a Genie Pro model 3024 (type 6 on the install chart, Intellicode II) and two Overhead Door Phantom (type 1 on the chart, CodeDodger I). This review is for a Genie Universal garage outdoor pad. Purchased in May, 2022. My friend recently moved into a townhome. Has (I think) an older garage door opener in the garage. No outdoor opener pad. I purchased one of another brand thinking it was 'generic' enough to use. Didn't work. Sent back. Had 'live chat' with Genie and they suggested the Genie Universal thinking IT MIGHT work. Ordered it .. and it did!! Easy to install on top of it. Does not work. Even tech support said that they are very difficult and have issues. Unfortunately I took my time trying to get it to work on spare time and can not return since I am past 30 days

    • Tricky setup but works great
Ended up working great but was a little tricky to setup. The last couple of steps have to be done in quick succession and hitting the open/close button until it connects didn't work at first, also I had to change the location of the keypad to right side of the door for it to work when the door was closed. I wish these things would pair like Bluetooth does. I was replacing a Sommer keypad that stopped working because the batteries corroded and damaged the internal electronics. This has a smarter design putting the batteries on the bottom. Regardless I'd recommend using AAA lithium batteries because they last longer and don't corrode. ... show more

WARNING!!! The universal version of this keypad is not compatible with any Liftmaster units that have product numbers ending in MC -- MC only appears on the physical label of the units. 98022 and 8500 are MC units (jackshaft aka wall mounit lift motors), see what I think is a complete list below. I wish someone would have posted this or it was disclosed by Genie in advance (not even on their support web page) but it wasn't -- so I'm going to save a bunch of you 2+ hours of time by letting you know! Looks like a nice universal keypad, however, I had to return it because it will not work with my Liftmaster 98022. Any Liftmaster that has a part number ending in MC this will not work with, apparently these models are made by Liftmaster to not work with universal keypads. MC does not appear anywhere when buying these openers but it's on the product label of the units, see my pic. From my research I believe all these models are MC (verify via your label though to be sure): 8587W, 87504-267, 87802, 84602, 84501, 8365W-267, 8160WB, 8160W, 8165W, 8155W, 8164W, 98022, 85870, 83650-267, 81600, 81602, 81650, 81550, 81640, 84504R, 84505R Genie would be well-served to save both their time and customers' time by stating incompatible lift units rather than just saying it works with all yellow learn button units which is simply untrue. In my case, I spent 2 hours trying to program it and finally level 2 Genie Support confirmed in 10-seconds it's incompatible. Not a good user of their time nor mine. But like I said, if you have another Liftmaster or other lift and need a universal keypad, I think this one is well made. I purchased it rather than the Liftmaster because Liftmaster has chosen to use god-awful colors and do not offer any white models except for the new unit that has a built in camera and very poor battery life (VKP1-LM). I will buy a camera model if/when Liftmaster releases a wired unit that doesn't require unmounting to access batteries to change them every few weeks or months (best case). Even Genie support people wish the incompatible models were listed somewhere. ... show more

    • Ok, but could be better
Remote works, it was not hard to program. There are few annoying things with it, though - one of them is the lack of dedicated "Cancel" button so if you accidentally enter wrong digits - you have to wait several seconds for keypad to dim before you can start anew, and it's hard to notice the keypad's backlight in a bright daylight. Whole process would've been much more convenient and faster if there was dedicated "Cancel" button which you could press to immediately start entering correct digits again. Another annoyance is the closing mechanism for the front cover - the plastic latch is inconvenient to press, especially for the people unfamiliar with operating it. Would've been much better if manufacturer just used strong magnets to hold the cover in closed position. And I'd gladly pay more money if those annoyances would be resolved. ... show more
