If you are looking for a box fan to try to make a home-made air filter, take note that the switch - the dial knob - is located in the front of the fan, not at the top. I found that out after I taped the filter to the front of the fan like the online instructions said, and then I was like, how do I turn the fan on - duh. I guess it is not that much of a problem since now I have the filter taped on the back of the fan - although I'm not quite sure if the wind's pulling force is not as strong as the wind's pushing force. This box fan pretty much fills my window, and the air output is great! I had a little Honeywell fan that I’ve used for years, but it just didn’t move much air. I decided to bite the bullet and try a box fan, not anticipating that it would be a whole lot more effective, probably just louder. But this fan is great! The blades go nearly to the edge of the box, so the whole size of the fan is useful, and it’s not overly loud - quieter than I would have thought it could be. Also, the first one I received was not right - the blades inside hit against the front of the fan where the knob inset is - so I requested a replacement. Less than two days later I had a new, perfectly working fan, and the original was picked up next day by UPS. Great fan, great experience - all over highly recommended. ... show more

I would love to get this five stars but I can’t I am super sensitive sound and if I could have an air conditioner in my window all year around, I would just for the sound this is great it’s powerful but the sound is off and it could just be a me thing

    • Works Well if You Aren't in the Same Room
The fan works well, but it's really loud and almost too lightweight to the point it will blow itself over sometimes. I use it to wedge into a window to blow cold air in at night, but I wouldn't recommend to use it in the same room you are working or sleeping in due to the noise. It's fallen out of the window a few times and dropped and somehow not broken, so it's tougher than it looks. ... show more

This fan is very powerful. It has 3 different speeds and it is also very lightweight because the fan is made out of plastic. I would becareful not to drop the fan when holding it but it does seems pretty durable. I used this fan to suck all of the food and cooking smell inside the house to outside the house and it works great. The fan is somewhat quiet but you can still hear some noise though.
