  • Don't look at the price, just buy it!
Did I really just pay $300 for a fan? THREE HUNDRED.... yes, I did and this thing is awesome! Here in Tampa we went through a brutal 2 days of winter... I actually had to close the windows once. Other than that it's 360+ days of muggy and I always have a tower fan running in whichever room I'm in. One tower stopped working in my office and was only 9 months old so I had to replace it. I don't know what possessed me to spend $300 on this .. it was more of an impulse buy... but wow, this thing is awesome! It is powerful and directs a strong breeze right at you.. the oscillating mode is whisper quiet. The fan itself is quiet at lower settings but from 7+ it sounds more like running water than a motor blowing air. Not to mention my old tower fans weren't exactly a fashionable corner piece .. this thing is like a sculpture sitting in the living room. I hate even coming back to this page and seeing the price but sitting here with a whisper quiet cool breeze from a decorative new work of art is pretty awesome! The only small complaint thus far is wondering why they put a black power cord on the a white fan... the white blends so well with the decor that you barely notice it but the cord definitely stands out. 8-19-16: 5 to 4 stars... : I am less of a fan of the fan this time of year. The "breeze" is not as comforting when the heat and humidity are high outside. The vent is located very low, with tile floors and two dogs the vent requires frequent cleaning. ... show more

  • Design is worth it
The design is beautiful and makes the fan look really good in my home. Paying the extra money for the design is worth it because I never have to clean dust and grime out of fan grids again. I was surprised at how thin the plastic seems and lightweight the fan is compared to other fans. However, it seems to be designed well and is sturdy enough and balanced. The remote is stored on a magnetized area on top of the fan, and I have to be very careful to place the remote in the right spot. If I store the remote too fast or in a sloppy manner, then it falls off. The electronic display on the base of the fan does not bother me but if you are sensitive to light, it may bother you if you leave the fan on while sleeping in your bedroom. There is noise with the fan that I can hear as a sit or lie about 5 feet from it, but it doesn't bother me and isn't unusual, in my opinion. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Worth the money
As with all the Dyson products that I have purchased the build quality is very good even though it is nearly all plastic externally. But the best part is how quiet it is and how non-turbulent the airflow is. I have had many fans and I have always been disappointed with how buffeted I feel after a while, especially when the fan is on high. This fan doesn't seem to do that at all at moderate speeds and only slightly at high speeds. There have been complaints about the noise of the Fan but I am quite surprised by how exceedingly quiet it is compared to any other fan. Even on the highest setting I have no problem hearing what is going on around me or on TV. The fan is quite expensive but I am very, very pleased with it. I also like the fact that I don't have to worry about my dogs poking their nose into the blades and also how unobtrusive it is in the room. I got the white one and it was a smart move. It doesn't draw your eye all the time like the other colors would. ... show more

The best fan I have ever had Very quiet

  • Nice fan if it stays rattle free, but only so.
Keep in mind that this review is comparing the Dyson Tower Fan (~$310) with the features or performance of a generic upright floor standing fan (~$50) or a tower fan we got from Costco some time ago (~$70)... The fan was easy to assemble and was up and running in a few minutes. I usually always read the instructions before I plug anything in, but did not in this case since its assembly and operation seemed so simple. Oops! There are numbered tags affixed to the various pieces to show how they snap together (no tools required) - however, I missed that the base has a couple of blue transparent pieces of tape to keep the oscillating portions locked together. Fortunately, after I finally read the instructions and figured out why I could not get the fan to oscillate, there was no damage done by my failure to initially remove the tape. The tape should have been like yellow police tape rather than attractive transparent blue - I thought it belonged there! The fan does not put out a large volume of air compared to either the floor fan I have or the Costco tower fan. It is not significantly more quite than either of those other fans. It is reasonably quiet and puts out a reasonable amount of air flow. It looks very modern (too modern looking for my wife's taste). There are no built-in controls at a comfortable height. There is a power/speed-only switch at the bottom of the fan near the floor. There is a remote control for activating all the fan's functions, however, the remote is too stylish. The remote looks like maybe an Apple designer produced it - it looks nice but the buttons are so integrated into the body that it is very difficult if not impossible to feel the buttons at night - even during the day you cannot easily read the function so whether it is day or night, you have to know where the right button is on the face of the control. Additionally, you have to point the front end of the remote directly at the base of the fan in order to effect a function change - that's annoying when you expect that you should only have to point it in the general direction of the fan. The fan has 10 speed ranges compared to the four of my Costco tower - I guess that's a feature - time will tell. It has a timer to turn it off after a prescribed time, but so does my Costco tower. There are no blades to stick my fingers into, but the screens on the floor fan and the tower fan seems to be adequate to do that too. So, it is not quieter, the controls are a nuisance, my wife hates the look, and, it costs a whole bunch more than the fans it is presumed to replace. Hmmm, why do I like the fan? I like it because no feature or performance aspect is worse than the other two and I expect that it will not succumb to their biggest issue for me - the fact that after some time of use they start to rattle and click and make random such noises. I do not mind nominal air flow noise - in fact is usually acts as a mask for random evening noises when trying to get to sleep, so airflow noise can be a comfort. What I do object to are the rattles and clicks and such that most fans make. Bottom line is that I am expecting the Dyson to stay rattle free - that's why I am willing to pay a big number for the fan. I cannot tell you how many fans I have bought over the years and have yet to find one that stays quite or continues to work like it did when I opened the original box. Lord, I hope that I have finally found one. ... show more
