  • It is a good one
It was very easy to install it, and the screws are not regular so if someone wants to steal the bike, won’t be able to open the GPS track. Only I wish it was a way that I could hide it.

  • Excellent tracking uses - not only for bikes and scooters!!!
I was drawn to this tracker by the reasonable price for "lifetime access" with potentially no subscription fees. The tracker is about a business card size and is meant to attach to stem tubes of bikes or scooters. Set up requires the download of an app to your Android or iphone smart phone. After downloading the app, you need to set up an account with Gemstone which is located in Denmark (where the unit is made). It's great that it's made in Europe rather than the ubiquitous China Inc. Set up requires you to put in the ID of the unit (which is the ICCID of the Sim card). I don't understand why you have to physically enter in the long ID where they include a QR code right on the label. On top of that the app has a dark background so that when entering the number, you can't see if you are putting it correctly. They can definitely make some changes here - taking a photo of the QR code is much more convenient since they already include one. Once your information is added, it will search for your device. That's another thing they could improve. They don't tell you that it could take a while to add and activate. The initial opening of the app shows a map of Denmark. You need to bring the device to the outdoors where it can get a good signal (not sure if that is a cell signal or GPS or both). For me, being located in New York, it took a long 30 minutes + to activate. Your phone has to be close by. It uses a bluetooth signal to set up. Once activated, the app shows the location of the device. Since it has a potentially long battery life (as in 5-6 years), it's reasonable to deduce that it only updates location in long intervals and in this case about once every 15 minutes or so if choosing a "live" profile. You can chose an Emergency profile that updates every 10 minutes but that will reduce battery life - for what it looks like to half. Other profiles include once an hour, daily or weekly (for most battery life - I suspect 6 years for this). The free subscription includes a geofencing capability where it's approximately a 1 mile radius. If the device is moved outside of this radius, you will get a notification. There is also a mode which uses WiFi too. Of course, they have a paid Premium plan - but relatively low cost. $1.99usd monthly or $20.50 yearly. That will give you customized tracking profiles, unlimited geofencing profiles and additional logging capability. You can try the premium for free for 2 weeks. I was thinking this would be good for other tracking uses - such as vehicles, outdoor powersports, etc. The only thing is the tracker MUST be in a location outdoors as it doesn't work very well or at all indoors (even if located near a window). Come to think of it, a perfect thing to use it on is a trailer or ATV where both are prone to theft. The long battery life would make this a great way to keep ahead of thieves. If putting it on a bike tube, the tube needs to be 1 3/4" in diameter or less. You will need other methods of attaching if larger than this diameter. Opening up the device (held together by #10 Torx Pin screws) reveals a battery pack comprising of two AAA sized lithium battery - at 3.6v total. I hope you can buy additional batteries when needed but anyone with just a LITTLE tinkering experience can easily make their own if it's not available in the future. Looking at the circuit board, the SIM card is built in - there is no way to swap that with your own (just in case their cellular data becomes inactive for one reason or another) There are a couple things additionally that "bother" me in addition to the slightly lacking set up instructions.. First is the app is a little unstable. It will quit on its own if there is no activity in about 2 minutes. I don't usually like "lifetime" subscriptions as I wonder how they would pay for eternal servicing and the longevity of the company especially for worldwide coverage Cellular data. Technically with these potential shortcomings, I would rate this as a solid 4 stars. However, if I can even get 2 years out of this for the $180 device fee, it would be worth a 5 star rating. I plan on using this for an enclosed trailer (mounting the device on the roof so that difficult for thieves to see) and amortizing this for 24 months ($7.50 mo) - this would be a GREAT peace of mind tracking an expensive piece of equipment for a low "monthly" cost. Also thinking of using this when going on ATV trips where I can temporarily mount this on the frame to keep track of the location (both for me for theft protection, and for family to see my location just in case I get lost or get disabled). There's lots of great possible uses for this and the reason why I would rate this as 5 stars ... show more

  • Made in China. Overpriced. Subscription offered.
It’s always typical (and annoying) when companies tout over and over that there’s no monthly fee. But then. . . They offer “premium plan” for a monthly fee, which they don’t tell you about on the listing. The current cost of the “premium plan” is $1.99 per-month or $20.50 per-year. Here’s the differences. . . . Premium plan includes: ✔ Customizable tracking profiles ✔ Extended notification options ✔ Unlimited trips & historic positions ✔ Unlimited geofence zones ✔ Tracker location sharing Meanwhile, the Free version offers: ✔ 5 standard tracking profiles ✔ Customizable notifications ✔ Access to the last trip & 10 historic positions ✔ 1 free geofence zone Though the information shows this is for bikes / scooters. . . You can use it on strollers and other items. The battery shows to last six-years, but it depends upon usage. Their website shows you can purchase a replacement battery for €39.90, but I don’t see anywhere it’s actually available for purchase. In the end. . . With a good whack with a hammer. . .You can knock this off. So if someone is trying to steal your bike / scooter. . . It just depends if they will see it. . know what it is. . . and have a hammer available. This GPS tracker is Made in Denmark and being sold by a Canadian company on Amazon. At the current price of $180. . .It’s quite overpriced. It’s only around $133 when purchased in Denmark. ... show more
