Quiet and reliable
Love this! It is very quiet, much more so than the previous Opal which I had for 4 years. I am really not a fan of having to download an app for everything these days, and I sort of grumbled about it here until I realized that this machine has a scheduling feature so I could set it up to turn on automatically so there would be ice ready when I get up for my morning soda (not a coffee drinker, lol). The app set up was easy. What was not as easy was the machine set up. There is no manual included in the packaging, just a QR code slapped on the machine to take you to a YouTube set up video, which was not that helpful. I did finally find a User Manual on the app once, but it wasn't easy to locate. In fact, I just tried to find it again while typing this review and I couldn't. There are QR codes slapped all over this machine for reordering filters and cleaning and the setup video, but nothing for a User Manual, troubleshooting, or FAQs. One thing to be aware of, which I couldn't find noted anywhere, is that if you have the side tank, you actually have to fill the machine reservoir with water up to the fill line from the top of the machine in order to get it to start making ice. Just filling the side tank will not do it and you will get repeated notices from the app telling you the machine needs water. Despite the challenges I had figuring out the setup, this machine is quiet, starts making ice within 10 minuets and fills up the drawer within 2 hours. It reliably stops making ice when it is full and will start making more when ice is removed. The scheduler in the app works perfectly. I am very happy with this product. ... show more

We are very pleased with our GE Profile Opal Mini icemaker. The unit was easy to set up following the online videos. We bought the side mount reservoir and I’m glad we did because it works flawlessly and you do not have to remember to fill the built-in reservoir. It makes plenty of ice for the two of us, but you would have to save ice ahead for a large group. The unit is quieter than I thought it would be. The best part is the ice which is chewable and never hard or frozen together. We use regular tap water, so I also bought the scale filter which came with 6 packs of descaler. This is not a cheap appliance, but the quality is evident and worth the price. I would buy again. ... show more

GE tech support problems
Do not buy the Opal MINI ice maker if you plan to use the descaling filter. I have had this ice machine a couple weeks and have had nothing but trouble trying to use this filter. GE tech support is no help either. They say that the filter is optional. The ice maker works great without the filter installed but I would rather use the filter to keep the buildup of unwanted water minerals in the machine. I know I can run the cleaning cycle, but using the filter reduces the time between cleanings. My machine starts pumping air into the water reservoir after the filter has been installed a couple days. I can remove the filter and install the water diverter and it starts working normally. Either my machine is faulty or it is design flaw. GE tech support is the worst. Amazing little ice machine! Small and cute but not too small. A bit smaller than my microwave. Good value for money especially in this summer LA heat. Family of 6 been holding it down lol bit of a leakage but just don’t overfill it, make sure the hose isn’t all twisted up, check the little compartment underneath the tray, pretty easy to take some water out if it overflows and it even came with some cleaning tabs I think. Pretty simple little machine making that Starbucks like nugget ice. lol noise is a noticeable but not louder than a microwave. I’d say like a small fan but it does stop once it stops filling tray with ice. ... show more

The Best Ice at a Good Size and Price, But a Little Loud
When my wife heard about the nugget ice makers she has always expressed interest in getting one, but the amount of counter space they take up was always a concern as we have a smaller kitchen. When we heard GE made a mini version we decided to give it a shot and see how it goes. We have had it for a few weeks now and it has been great! It is easy to use, we put it together, downloaded the app, and set it on a schedule and outside of filling up the water tank haven’t thought twice about it. A true set and forget experience. This machine produces ice quickly and we have had not issues with it. The only complaint we would have is that it does run a bit louder than we expected, but it isn’t a deal breaker since it doesn’t run long to make ice. ... show more

Leaked, Frequent Refilling, Not Worth the Counter Space
We really wanted to like this machine, but it just wasn't in the cards. Setup was easy, but in the first 3-4 days of use, I couldn't figure out why I kept having to replenish the reservoir twice a day. I was only filling one or two glasses for my diet coke each day - I mean, how much water does one glass of ice require? Finally realized that there was a leak. That said, the amount of water from the leak still didn't account for the frequent refilling. Combine this with the fact that I didn't love the noise and the amount of space it takes up on the counter, we packed it up to return. ... show more

Great for daily use
It is everything it was advertised to be. I love it!! It is a little noisy when it’s making ice but I have it in a counter in my utility room.

The ice maker is great. Buy it without the lousy side tank and save money.
We love the ice this makes. It is fairly quiet and keeps the ice from melting right away. What I don’t recommend is purchasing this model with the side tank. We couldn’t ever get it to work right with the side tank and the filter unit doesn’t work that great. So, save yourself a bunch of money and storage space and just buy this model without the side tank. ... show more
