I was a little concerned about buying this ac because some people have had trouble, but this unit arrived in perfect condition, installed easily, and is the quietest ac I've ever had. I would buy again. I suspect the people who had trouble got a unit that was damaged in shipping, not GE's qc. My last GE unit (that I replaced with this one) was still working after 13 years, but just too loud. I was watching the tv at 38-40, now I'm watching it at 20-24, a huge volume difference.     • Very quiet running AC.

I am very happy with this unit. After installing it in a wall sleeve the unit ran full speed to cool off the hot room. When the room came close to set temperature it slowed down with a very acceptable noise level. The unit has an app to run it remotely. The wall sleeve is about 6 inches wider than the unit to allow for air circulation which it must have. The outside noise is acceptable as well. To do this you will need to either mount the unit temporally and remove in the fall or permanently insulating it in the sleeve. It is an inverter motor so it runs at different speeds depending on need. It has been running for a month now and my electric bill hasn't jumped excessively even though it runs on 115 volt house current. The app reads about 500 watts of power consumption at 1/2 power although I don't know if that is believable. It also shows about 7kw on a hot (90 degrees) sticky day in Iowa. Go figure yourself. It has an ECO feature which shuts off the fan and compressor when the desired temperature is reached. It is the default setting and I would leave it on. The unit evaporates the condensation so it doesn't drip. The outside fan throws the condensation water into the hot coil to do this. You can hear the water hitting outside the coil on very muggy days. ... show more

Faulty out the box. The A/C unit runs and cools but the clean filter light won’t stop blinking. I’ve cleaned the new filter but that hasn’t made any difference. The remote only partially works, it won’t shut off the display lights on the unit and it’s amazing how bright those lights are when you’re trying to sleep. Customer service said they would send a replacement filter and a new remote; three weeks later I’m still waiting. They also tout this unit as being quiet. It’s noticeably louder than the unit it replaced. Great white noise for sleeping but I wouldn’t like to try and carry on a conversation or listen to TV in a room with this air conditioner running. ... show more

I was on the verge of buying a quiet window AC by a highly rated brand, just as news broke out that their AC was being quietly pulled from store shelves all over the country. It was rumored that the company was going to announce an official recall, and a week later, they did. To avoid the hassle of buying a product that was faulty, I researched other AC brands and chose this one by General Electric. I'm really happy I made this choice. We've had it for over a month, and it works flawlessly. It's so efficient and nowhere near as loud as the old window AC that we bought 24 years ago.     • Whisper Quiet But Arrived Damaged

This makes a great bedroom a/c. Even the compressor starting and stopping is barely audible. Fan is also silent but the unit's design in favor of low noise comes at a price: air movement. The 8100 BTU unit moves less air (lower CFM) than other machines. The GE arrived damaged and I failed to notice the holes on two sides of the box until after I unpacked the unit and found corresponding damage to the a/c. Front grille pushed in and creased and condenser coil fins squashed on the other side. The a/c was shipped in nothing more than the retail display carton, which didn't stand up to the apparent abuse that the box was put through at some point. A fin comb and lots of patience took care of the condenser coil damage but the front grille needs to be replaced. Contacted GE and was advised that they would have to send the entire front panel to me, as the grille is not available as a separate part. A month later no grille so I called again and apparently had fallen out of the system. This time I have a case number and verification that the front panel is in stock. Time will tell. Customer support seemed very attentive. I have no idea about the WiFi functionality as I have no plans to utilize it. Too much stuff going through home routers these days. If not for the need for low noise operation, I would choose Friedrich over GE Profile. Bought a large Friedrich to cool multiple rooms last year and it's a champ. Noisy but capable of moving a lot of air, which is key to good performance when cooling multiple rooms. ... show more

It’s easy to install, cooled the area instantly and maintained well! I especially love that the screen is large to see the temperature, mode and info across the room. And that it doesn’t stay lit up either, a quick click in the remote lights it up for a minute then clears and that is so important at night! The last thing I wanted was it to light up all night-I need and love a DARK room. And other models have stayed on and been such an annoying light. But not this brand! Yeah!! And the quiet mode helps lesson the noise level. But within a couple nights it became white noise and didn’t sound bad at all. A wonderful dark, cool room to sleep in on a hot summer night is so worth the price! ... show more

So far, not happy with it. While the fan itself seems quiet, it makes a noise that I can’t quite describe. It sounds like an “old school” unit with some internal rattling- it’s super annoying. Does cool well though.
