  • Quiet and Powerful
I was a little concerned about buying this ac because some people have had trouble, but this unit arrived in perfect condition, installed easily, and is the quietest ac I've ever had. I would buy again. I suspect the people who had trouble got a unit that was damaged in shipping, not GE's qc. My last GE unit (that I replaced with this one) was still working after 13 years, but just too loud. I was watching the tv at 38-40, now I'm watching it at 20-24, a huge volume difference. It also cools much more evenly with the air flowing up. I'm very happy. ... show more

  • wasted potential - too many flaws
The basic device is fine, but it was ruined by a lack of attention to detail. 1. The packaging is not strong enough to withstand shipping. The first unit I ordered arrived with a large dent in the sheet metal. 2. The normal quietness of the unit is ruined by some kind of problem with the vibration isolation between the compressor and the case. The compressor assembly seems to intermittently make contact with the sheet metal, causing a very loud vibration sound. You can whack on the right side of the case and make it go away for a while, but it always comes back. (It's possible that this is another shipping damage problem, but it's mentioned in several other reviews.) 3. If you leave the drain plug in, the water slinger sound is very loud. However you can't quite get the plug out once the unit is in the window and you realize this. Also, the drain hole is too close to the front and will probably drip on your windowsill. It will also be a hassle to dry out the base before putting the unit away for the winter. 4. The touch button controls are horrible - hard to operate intentionally, yet easy to hit by accident. The only way to see the current setting is to look at the lights, which go out very quickly. You have to change a setting to get the lights back on. If you accidentally turn off WiFi (especially easy since that touch button is on the corner), you have to go through the painful pairing process again. You can't tell the difference between the unit being turned off and it being on and in energy saving mode. Finally, there is an annoying beep every time you touch a button. 5. It's very easy to get the remote control out of sync with the actual unit settings, and there's no clear way to get it back in sync. 6. The WiFi function and app are as slow and clumsy as everyone says. ... show more

  • Its cool
This was the only window AC unit I can find to fit my tiny windows. I have the style that has two different panes that are removable. I had to use the back window pane and had a half an inch to spare. For the quality it does its job and produces the temp as set without having to set 5 degrees lower on the ac. The noise is acceptable but not ultra quite which I didn’t expect anyway. Well worth the cost for a small room. ... show more

  • Excellent for Kids Rooms
I purchased this ac to put in my child's room, it isn't silent, but it is much quieter and definitely works really well to cool the room. I had some difficulty pairing the ac with the app, but it is nice to be able to turn the ac on an hour or so before bed so the room is ready. There were a couple more steps for installation and it's definitely a 2 person job, but we got it in the window last year and pulled it out for this winter no problem. Looking forward to using it again this summer. ... show more

  • Not ultra quiet!
The media could not be loaded. We purchased this unit because it said it was ultra quiet. It is louder and rattles more than the unit we replaced. This video was shot on low fan speed. On high ir medium you cannot be in the same room. There has got to be something wrong Follow up response. We opened the case and found the rubber vibration mounts for the compressor were not tightened and loose. Added washers to the rubber mounts and tightened. The unit is very quiet. The rubber mounts do not tighten as designed. ... show more

  • Poorly designed and lacking in quality
If you have a screen on your window this will be a nightmare. If you don’t, it could also be a nightmare as even after I made a base as the instructions requested it still was not level. It also makes a noise due to the water not fully draining despite being at an angle as the instructions state to do. I was not impressed by the design at all and on the bottom there is part of the molding of the frame on one side only that causes the it not to be level. The installation was a nightmare and the instructions are awful. Once installed and on, it cools the room pretty quickly, but is not quite as stated in the description. Was not a fan at all and probably would never buy a GE A/C again as the design was poor and there was obviously no Quality Control department reviewing it after it was designed. It is also VERY heavy! ... show more

  • Whisper Quiet But Arrived Damaged
This makes a great bedroom a/c. Even the compressor starting and stopping is barely audible. Fan is also silent but the unit's design in favor of low noise comes at a price: air movement. The 8100 BTU unit moves less air (lower CFM) than other machines. The GE arrived damaged and I failed to notice the holes on two sides of the box until after I unpacked the unit and found corresponding damage to the a/c. Front grille pushed in and creased and condenser coil fins squashed on the other side. The a/c was shipped in nothing more than the retail display carton, which didn't stand up to the apparent abuse that the box was put through at some point. A fin comb and lots of patience took care of the condenser coil damage but the front grille needs to be replaced. Contacted GE and was advised that they would have to send the entire front panel to me, as the grille is not available as a separate part. A month later no grille so I called again and apparently had fallen out of the system. This time I have a case number and verification that the front panel is in stock. Time will tell. Customer support seemed very attentive. I have no idea about the WiFi functionality as I have no plans to utilize it. Too much stuff going through home routers these days. If not for the need for low noise operation, I would choose Friedrich over GE Profile. Bought a large Friedrich to cool multiple rooms last year and it's a champ. Noisy but capable of moving a lot of air, which is key to good performance when cooling multiple rooms. ... show more
