  • So happy we bought this air conditioner!
Size: 10,000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
I was on the verge of buying a quiet window AC by a highly rated brand, just as news broke out that their AC was being quietly pulled from store shelves all over the country. It was rumored that the company was going to announce an official recall, and a week later, they did. To avoid the hassle of buying a product that was faulty, I researched other AC brands and chose this one by General Electric. I'm really happy I made this choice. We've had it for over a month, and it works flawlessly. It's so efficient and nowhere near as loud as the old window AC that we bought 24 years ago. Window AC technology has really come a long way since then. It cools a room quickly, and it is smart enough to turn itself on and off as needed to maintain a steady temperature. ... show more

  • Very quiet running AC.
Size: 14,000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
I am very happy with this unit. After installing it in a wall sleeve the unit ran full speed to cool off the hot room. When the room came close to set temperature it slowed down with a very acceptable noise level. The unit has an app to run it remotely. The wall sleeve is about 6 inches wider than the unit to allow for air circulation which it must have. The outside noise is acceptable as well. To do this you will need to either mount the unit temporally and remove in the fall or permanently insulating it in the sleeve. It is an inverter motor so it runs at different speeds depending on need. It has been running for a month now and my electric bill hasn't jumped excessively even though it runs on 115 volt house current. The app reads about 500 watts of power consumption at 1/2 power although I don't know if that is believable. It also shows about 7kw on a hot (90 degrees) sticky day in Iowa. Go figure yourself. It has an ECO feature which shuts off the fan and compressor when the desired temperature is reached. It is the default setting and I would leave it on. The unit evaporates the condensation so it doesn't drip. The outside fan throws the condensation water into the hot coil to do this. You can hear the water hitting outside the coil on very muggy days. ... show more

  • wasted potential - too many flaws
Size: 8,100 BTU Style: Non-Inverter Color: White
The basic device is fine, but it was ruined by a lack of attention to detail. 1. The packaging is not strong enough to withstand shipping. The first unit I ordered arrived with a large dent in the sheet metal. 2. The normal quietness of the unit is ruined by some kind of problem with the vibration isolation between the compressor and the case. The compressor assembly seems to intermittently make contact with the sheet metal, causing a very loud vibration sound. You can whack on the right side of the case and make it go away for a while, but it always comes back. (It's possible that this is another shipping damage problem, but it's mentioned in several other reviews.) 3. If you leave the drain plug in, the water slinger sound is very loud. However you can't quite get the plug out once the unit is in the window and you realize this. Also, the drain hole is too close to the front and will probably drip on your windowsill. It will also be a hassle to dry out the base before putting the unit away for the winter. 4. The touch button controls are horrible - hard to operate intentionally, yet easy to hit by accident. The only way to see the current setting is to look at the lights, which go out very quickly. You have to change a setting to get the lights back on. If you accidentally turn off WiFi (especially easy since that touch button is on the corner), you have to go through the painful pairing process again. You can't tell the difference between the unit being turned off and it being on and in energy saving mode. Finally, there is an annoying beep every time you touch a button. 5. It's very easy to get the remote control out of sync with the actual unit settings, and there's no clear way to get it back in sync. 6. The WiFi function and app are as slow and clumsy as everyone says. ... show more

  • Lightweight, Quiet, and Cool
Size: 14,000 BTU Style: Inverter Color: White
This is a really nice air conditioner. We bought it to replace a traditional 12,000 BTU window unit that stopped working this year. This 14,000 BTU GE is very light for this power level and was much easier to install than the old one. The unit cools very well, and because it has an inverter compressor it is quieter, and you don't get the loud change in sound when the compressor kicks on. The only nitpick I have with it is that the remote is a little slow; if you change the fan speed on the remote there is maybe a half-second delay before the display on the unit reflects the change. It's not a real problem since this is mostly a set-it-and-forget-it type thing, however, and if this is the only complaint I have about it I am more than pleased with this purchase. ... show more
