I decided to try this because it was ammonia-free. I've been using L'Oreal Preference for probably 20 years. I would have to dye my hair every 4 weeks because it doesn't cover gray, doesn't last past a couple of washings and they call that permanent dye, and the ammonia would burn my eyes and scalp. This hair color is not only ammonia-free, it completely covered my gray. Wow! It's been 3 weeks and it hasn't faded at all. I am so impressed with it. I don't have to use root touch up spray on my part or on my temples. I can't wait to see how many weeks it actually lasts. I should have changed hair color products years ago. I switched from Garnier Nutrisse to Olia when they discontinued #41 - Dark Nude Brown in the Nutrisse. I was a little concerned because of a few bad reviews, but Olia worked great for me. I like it even better than Nutrisse. The color lasts longer and it doesn’t bleed out. With Nutrisse I had to cover my pillowcase with a towel to avoid staining it the night after coloring. My hair feels healthy and looks shiny. A few reviewers said their hair was oily after using Olia, but mine wasn’t oily at all. It may be because my hair is very thick and tends to be dry. I tried the Dark Brown 4.0 first. It looked exactly like the box, but the color was too dark for me. The next time I tried Medium Brown 5.0 and it was perfect (again, it looks exactly like the pictures on the box.) I’ll be sticking with Olia. Hopefully they won’t change the formula or discontinue the color. Finally, I love that all Garnier products are cruelty-free. Before using their color I was paying outrageous prices for salon coloring (Paul Mitchell) because it was the only way to get decent color without buying from companies that test on animals. ... show more

I used L'Oreal Touch-On Highlights for many, many years. Then they discontinued it, and I thought my life was ending. I even bought old dusty boxes from E-Bay for $50. I tried a Revlon kit which was miserable. I tried a different L'Oreal kit, which was also miserable and required buying a toning shampoo and letting my hair grow out. Then I tried this. Oh.My.Goodness this is BETTER than the L'Oreal Touch-On Highlights! Here's the deal though: I saved the little applicator from my original L'Oreal Touch-On kit, it fits on your finger and has little teeth on it like a comb, to evenly apply the color. The newer L'Oreal kits (all over color plus highlights) has the same applicator, and I think it is important to have. I tried this kit without any applicator, and it was still great, but I think the addition of the applicator from the L'Oreal kit makes this magic. There is no chemical smell, no harsh perfume smell (well, the conditioner is a bit much, but it makes your hair really conditioned). There the material in the kit is all recyclable--I really appreciate that. I am SOLD on all things Garnier now. This stuff is MAGIC! (p.s. I have light brown hair normally, and I like it blonde) ... show more

TLDR: NOT as pink/dark as I thought, but I really like it! Also, use 2 bottles if you have longish hair! So I started off with brunette (my natural) roots that was ombréd to a warm medium blonde at the ends. So first off I bleached it to get an overall warm blonde, let it rest for a few days, bleached again to get closer to a warm platinum, rested a few days, toned to get to a more neutral base, then dyed. It took me about 30 minutes to get the dye applied and then I left it for about 40 minutes to process. At the end of application, I was super close to running out, so if you have hair aaaany longer or thicker than mine, you definitely want to use 2 boxes for 1 application! Also, a word to the wise- any inconsistencies in bleaching or toning show!! I have patches that are warmer than others because my base color was inconsistent. Thankfully I don’t really care that much, but I know some people would. The color went on white/clear, turned a deep pink (“dark quartz”, anyone?) and when washed out (without shampoo the first time!) faded to a really soft pink. Not like the pictures at all. Maybe I didn’t leave it to process long enough, who knows. So if you’re going for dark pink, maybe try leaving it a lot longer than 40 minutes? Overall the product is great, just didn’t exactly give me what I thought I was getting 😜 ... show more
