  • Works with GTM-60
Style: Tread Powersport Off-Road Navigator
I would like to start out that I have used Garmin GPS's in there various incarnations for nearly 30 years. I purchased the Tread for both on & off road use. The 1st thing I did upon receipt of the unit was to connect it to the computer and run any updates, well it does not like to update via usb but it does like to update via wifi so just a heads up, the initial updates did not take long less than 1 hour. The 2nd thing I did was try it with a GTM-60 traffic receiver I already have that is used with other models, according to the compatibility list it is not compatible, but I noticed the "overlander" was compatible which is the same OS as the Tread and sure enough when i plugged it in it did a little firmware update to the GTM-60 and it works great as noted in my photo it gets digital updates where they are provided (digital is not broadcast in all city's). Functionally it has a lot of features some of which I may never use but they are there if you need them. The search function works great, you no longer have to search by city/state/etc to find many things you just put what you want in search and bam there it is. Out of the box it has a lot of boundary lines enabled for everything A~Z so much that it can make the map just a bit too much you may have a hard time determining what is a property boundary line and what is a trail or road or street so I turned some of the boundary markers off to make it more suitable to my needs. Some of those markers are useful for off-road ONLY, when I am in the city I don't need to see joe smo's property lines. The OS is nice you will get a single tone alert for upcoming speed limit changes, a detail will come up on the right side showing the next street/exit, etc and how far away it is and by this I mean it will show them purely as information and not necessarily as your next turn if navigating I like the feature. OFF-Road mapping is "ok" there are some places I have gone to and have driven and the mapping is just not in the data, that's not a defect of the device it's a mapping issue and should be expected to a certain degree depending on where you travel. Birds eye view is "interesting" if you download the birds eye it literally shows a birds eye view which includes just trees and no road if the road is under the tree canopy there is no overlay for the road on the map in that case. Accuracy is the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, accuracy is pretty good most of the time but there was a couple cases of it "drifting" a bit maybe a few hundred feet at most not sure why, could be the satellite was on the edge of the horizon or something. I have traveled with it for a few thousand miles now and have confidence in it for the most part . I purchased a window suction mount separate because it does not come with one, I though it might "fall off" the window because it is a little heavy because of the big built in battery but even with some rough off roading it has not fallen off, the colored plastic trim pieces it comes with seem a little janky but it has not been dropped or anything yet when it does I expect the trim piece of pop off like a lego set otherwise it seems sturdy. It has not frozen up or done anything weird as of yet the os seems stable. If you are on the couch about buying one go for it, great gps. ... show more

  • It takes a little time to get to know it but works awesome.
Style: Tread Powersport Off-Road Navigator
We just got back from the black hills and it was very nice to have it. If you turned on a trail it would then tell you the trail number. We just went without worry about getting back home when time came to go home we just put in our camp ground and it took us back. It gives plenty warning for turning corners and highlights trails and you can read it during daylight hours. Kinda speedy but hopefully it will last, I also wish you could plug it into the power outlet that the machines have. I have a Honda and the battery is under left fender lots of wire to run to get by rear view mirror. Its a game changer! Steve ... show more

  • I really want to love Garmin products - but their tech support is useless. So many other options.
Style: Tread Powersport Off-Road Navigator
I have been a Garmin fan for decades. When everyone else started to use smartphones for navigation, I stuck with my Garmin. Finally the smart phone apps proved to be more useful and especially faster, and I retired the Garmins. I have tried the Garmin watches, and now an off-road device for my UTV. I would put the quality (fit, finish and durability) of the hardware up against any device, even Apple. However, Garmin's software/firmwear and tech support are substandard. Part of the issue is using processors that are minimally fast at the time the product is designed, and quickly become obsolete. However when the need to work through some common software/tech issue comes up, prepare to be frustrated. With this device, it would not connect to Garmin's servers. After a number of "upload this and upload that" requests (which were promising), the Garmin crickets arrived and all communication and progress stopped, without a resolution. I would purchase their hardware to load and use OnX and/or GiaiaGPS data, but that is not even possible. ... show more

  • Dangerously inaccurate trail ratings and a pain to use
Style: Tread Powersport Off-Road Navigator
I looked forward to having something to navigate where to enjoy my SXS. First, it is way harder to find trails and plot courses than using Google maps (which shows pretty much all the same trails). But I thought the trail difficulty feature would be nice since you can select a difficulty range from 1 to 4. On a recent trip to Moab asked it to plot a path with a difficulty level of 2 to go see Picture Frame Arch, because I didn't want to take the dirt road. It plotted a course we followed a bit. In under 5 minutes the difficulty was approaching Poison Spider which rates a difficulty of 6 by Moab 4x4 club. My wife (who didn't go on Poison Spider) wasn't happy. I want either after nearly rolling on Poison Spider at an off camber rock wall I had to climb. We decided to turn around and the next open spot was at a near 30' high cliff where a tricked out SXS was stuck about 20' up and was being dragged up with a wench. I since found out this was a level 7 trail (8 you can expect body damage and roll overs). I tried to use it again on a trip to the Big Horn mountains. It was such a pain that I switched to my phone to navigate. The only useful feature was tracking the ride so we could go back the way we came. Disappointing... ... show more

Still haven’t figured it all the way out, it took us forever and hundreds of YouTube videos to even get it to turn on. Very expensive for the hassle we have had.

  • Convenient system, easy to use, lots of built in features.
Style: Tread Powersport Off-Road Navigator with...
An expensive system considering all the free map systems you can access online however when your hopping from one area to another it this unit is a great for having preloaded detailed maps. I'm not a fan of having to download maps all the time. I was a it disappointed that the built in radio was not GMRS or something that had an ability to actually be useful. Basically unless someone else has a Tread with radio its worthless. Does not connect with Apple Air pods.. Bummer.. ... show more
