I have owned a Garmin in reach Explorer plus for many years and I found the unit to be amazing and beyond compare. I decided to upgrade to the smaller mini 3+ with features like sending a voice message in longer battery. Life was something I was hoping would be worth the upgrade. First of all, let me say while the screen is small. It is amazing with great detail. The touchscreen works surprisingly well for such a small unit and it’s easy to read. I find it locks onto satellites a lot faster than my other unit. I was wondering, if having such a small unit would be cumbersome to use, but the layout of everything on the unit has been well thought out. Even looking at the map display on such a small screen is something I find quite acceptable. Another nice feature is that it could upgrade its firmware using the app and it’s standard connection from your phone without having to connect it to a laptop as you had to do with the explorer plus. It truly feels that garment understands this market and the uses for this unit and seems to build meaningful features with amazing upgrades. I must say you could never go wrong using a inreach unit as I have used it in the four corners of the planet and another amazing benefit that no one talks about is the fact that once you have a login and subscription, the website holds your trip and track as long as you have an active login. It’s really great to be able to look back years ago on various trips when people have asked where exactly were you and what places. I tipped my hat to this unit and glad I did the upgrade and I was even able to sell my explorer plus on the open market. These units just don’t die and their battery life is amazing.

Excellent device, and a great backup for your new satellite-capable cell phone

Love the new inReach. A very well built and well designed device. I was able to do successful tests even indoors, which is pretty remarkable. The user interface is also excellent, I most appreciate that it works with an easy-to-use iPhone app as well as without any app at all. While new iPhones and other devices include some satellite function for emergency use, that is still in its infancy and for now, it seems worth it to have a charged and reliable backup device that is purpose built for emergencies. No regrets and would not hesitate to buy again.

Amazing piece of kit to add to your hiking loadout. Give you peace of mind when you’re out on the trail knowing you can hit the button and worst case scenarios. It’s pretty straightforward and easy to use. It can track your movements and has pretty decent user interface.

Great, not perfect, still plenty to love

I actually love it. I should give it 5 stars, but there are a few things that if it had, I would love it even more! The subscription is pricey, yes, but the live tracking feature gives me piece of mind and I like that I can share it with family and friends so they can follow along. One coordinate every 10mins is great for road or boat trips, but not as great for hiking. Could it record a finer granularity locally, every 10mins over satellite, allow them to sync when phone and internet connection are available? I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Messages from email and text are received. Sometimes the service is down - and I was in an emergency situation for that to matter, but it could be concerning. Being able to freeze the subscription for up to a year is also a plus. A week+ battery life - great! Red antena - omg, so cute!

I’ve used it numerous times now for different adventures and haven’t run into any issues. Obviously it’s an as needed kind of device but I did utilize the satellite texting a couple times and it worked for the majority in a fast manner. Size is compact and easy to stow. Battery life seems pretty good, I haven’t tested that aspect. It’s been more passively on then actively tracking. Worth it for my peace of mind.

Mini three is amazing. I’m glad I decided to go with the three and not the two when you download the app to your phone and use the Maps on there. The amount of options are amazing. I do a lot of hunting. I like the fact that it shows me property owners boundary lines and I don’t have to pay for the extra package to get all that it already comes with it.
