  • Significant upgrade over Apple Watch Ultra. FENIX 8 BUTTON FIX HERE!
Size: 47 mm Style: fenix 8 - AMOLED Color: Titanium with Gray Band
I’ve been a loyal Apple Watch user, having owned many models since the first Apple Watch. I’ve always liked the health and wellness features of the watch, as well as its interoperability with other Apple devices in my home ecosystem. Over time, I grew tired of constantly having to charge the watch on a daily basis - even the Apple Watch Ultra pretty much required daily charging even though they say you can go two days between charges. I also wanted something with a more robust build quality. I was gifted the Garmin Fenix 5 Sapphire a few years ago, and I loved the long battery life, solid build quality and health and wellness features of the watch, but I hated the MIP display, which looked faded in both indoor and outdoor light. I sold it on eBay, but the Garmin health and wellness features and the onboard maps stuck in my mind as being very useful. Enter the Garmin Fenix 8 AMOLED. This watch is the ultimate tool watch! It’s built like a tank, the screen is larger than the Apple Watch Ultra, and the AMOLED display is beautiful. It has a very handy flashlight that I use almost daily when sleepily navigating to my attic at 5 am to work out without waking up the rest of the family. It also has a Strobe light for those dark, early morning runs. Garmin’s built-in health and wellness features are vastly superior to the Apple Watch. If you are a health metrics junkie like I am, this is the watch for you. The watch has onboard HRV and sleep tracking that I have found to be more precise than the Oura Ring 4, which I returned after getting the Fenix 8. Garmin features such as Training Readiness, HRV Status, Sleep Score, Body Battery, Recovery, and Training Status are all meaningful metrics that I rely upon daily, and the watch has even more health metrics and features, including Endurance Score, Hill Score, Stress, Heart Rate, ECG to detect irregular heart rhythms, Pulse Oximetry, and more. All of this can be viewed on the watch or viewed in expanded form in the free Garmin Connect smartphone app, which is the storehouse for all of your cumulative health and fitness data. You will also receive a weekly Fitness Report and Wellness report from Garmin Connect, which will alert you to any trends in your health data. Fantastic! In addition, the watch has loads of other useful features, including Garmin’s awesome built-in Maps; an excellent Golf app with distance to pin and ‘plays like’ distances factoring in slope, wind, and elevation; a Meditation app; Compass; Altimeter; Barometer; Weather app, etc. The Fenix 8 also has an onboard microphone for you to take phone calls while within range of your phone and dictate simple commands like setting timers, which I use often. There is also an onboard Phone Assistant app that allows you to connect to your smartphone’s assistant (e.g., Siri on youriPhone). Oh, and the battery life on the Fenix 8 is fantastic! I keep the watch charged between 20 to 80 percent to preserve battery health, and I get about 7 days per charge, working out about 1 hour per day with a heart rate monitor chest strap and with always-on display disabled and overnight pulse ox readings enabled. I charge to 100 percent before vacation to avoid bringing the charging cable with me. The only issue I noticed with the Fenix 8 out of the box was that the buttons felt a little mushy and were sometimes unresponsive to presses. This is due to a change Garmin made in the Fenix hardware in order to make the watch dive capable. I almost returned the watch thinking something was wrong with it, but the button issue is easily and fully resolved using the below Button Calibration procedure from Garmin: 1. On a Windows computer, open a plain text editor like Notepad in Windows. Create a New file. Leave it empty, but save the file as KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN. For file type, designate as All files or *.* 2. Plug your watch into a Windows PC or a Mac that has the ability to read MTP devices (a third-party program may be needed for your Mac to see the watch as a drive). 3. Locate the drive for your watch on the computer, and open the drive. 4. Place the KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN file in the Internal Storage of your watch. It should not be placed in a subfolder. 5. Disconnect your watch from the computer. 6. A button calibration screen will appear on the watch with five red checks on the screen next to each button. Press each button fully a couple of times. A green check will appear as each button is calibrated. After calibration is completed, all of the buttons should work just fine. With the Fenix 8, Garmin has brought more smartwatch functionality to its already awesome Fenix platform. I am really enjoying the Fenix 8, and I hope to have the watch for a long time. I sold my Apple Watch Ultra on eBay and have comfortably moved on to something much, much better. I can’t recommend the Fenix 8 highly enough. I’ll update this review if I run into any other issues. ... show more

  • Great watch. The sapphire crystal is a must!
Size: 43 mm Style: fenix 8 - AMOLED Color: Titanium with Gray Band
I bought this for my wife to replace her aging Garmin Vivoactive. The Vivoactive still worked great but we didn't know any better and didn't buy a screensaver for it. As a result, the screen was scratched up significantly in just a few years...to the point of making it hard to read in certain lighting. This new Fenix 8 is an amazing watch. The features and functionality are great and quite a big step above my the Fenix 5X that I currently wear. My Fenix 5 has the sapphire crystal and is still scratch-free after over 8 years of rough wear. We went with the sapphire crystal with this new Fenix 8 so I know it will last forever without any need for a screensaver. Love the watch and will likely buy another Fenix at some point whenever my Fenix 5 gives up. Highly recommend these watches if you can afford it. I think they are a bit overpriced but when you consider that mine has lasted over 8 years, it's still a decent buy. ... show more

  • The battery is unbeatable
Size: 51 mm Style: fenix 8 - AMOLED Color: Titanium with Gray Band
I love it. This watch is my daily companion. The 30 day battery is insane. I've got on weekend getaways and even a few multi-week trips where I've just not brought my charger. If drains a little faster if you're using activities of course, but not a concern on vacation. I'm not tracking daily runs on a vacation, I'm vacationing! Tracks GPS activities super well. I expect to have this watch for a long time. ... show more

  • Looks like a high-end tool, functions like a cheap toy.
Size: 47 mm Style: fenix 8 - AMOLED Color: Titanium with Gray Band
It looks very nice, but does not function well. I have sunk many hours into troubleshooting this device only to be continuously disappointed. This thing is a pain in the ass and I wish I had figured that out before the return window had closed. Ghost inputs are a constant, daily issue (both button- and touchscreen-based) that no troubleshooting method has yet to solve. I have to keep the wrist strap extremely tight, otherwise it thinks I have removed it and I must enter my passcode to use it again. The weather it displays is always wrong. Every time there is a software update it bugs out and I have to reset it from my computer. The strength training features are extremely limited. I’m sure I’m forgetting something here but I am extremely disappointed with this device. UPDATE: sleep metrics have become very inaccurate since the last update and soft resetting the watch today just brought back ghost input issues I thought I had resolved... I am at a loss. I reached out customer support but I expect all they will do is insultingly suggest I try yet more troubleshooting steps. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS WATCH! ... show more

  • Better Than Her Apple Watch—Incredible Battery, Perfect Fit for Smaller Wrists
Size: 43 mm Style: fenix 8 - AMOLED Color: Titanium with Gray Band
I bought this watch for my wife, and it’s quickly become her everyday go to. She even prefers it over her Apple Watch, which says a lot. What really sets it apart is the battery life. We’re talking weeks, not days. No more charging every night or even every few days. That alone has made a huge difference for her. She wears it everywhere. From running trails to casual errands, and it looks sleek without being bulky. The 43mm size is ideal for her smaller wrist, and it doesn’t feel or look oversized like many sports watches do. She uses it mainly for running and hiking, and it tracks everything seamlessly, from heart rate to elevation. GPS locks in fast and stays accurate. It also syncs perfectly with her iPhone, which was a must. Notifications, activity tracking, and even music control all work without any fuss. Setup was super easy too. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if she’d stick with it after being in the Apple ecosystem, but she hasn’t looked back. If you’re looking for a durable, lightweight smartwatch with powerhouse features and zero battery anxiety, this is the one to get. Highly recommend for active women who want form and function. ... show more

  • Excellent in every way
Size: 51 mm Style: fenix 8 - AMOLED Color: Titanium with Gray Band
Excellent smartwatch in every way. Used it to link to my GPSmap 66i and track activities. Display is bright enough to read in midday sun. ECG is a nice feature. Battery lasts a long time in hide mode.

  • Great product
Size: 47 mm Style: fenix 8 - AMOLED Color: Titanium with Gray Band
The watch is a little expensive, but its functions and capabilities are everything I need. The size is a little large on my wrist but it is very durable and has lasted me a long time. I like the customization it gives on the watch faces as well as the biometric data it gives to me when I work out

  • good but with A LOT of rough spots
Size: 51 mm Style: fenix 8 - AMOLED Color: Titanium with Gray Band
Overall seems like a good smart watch and health tracker. It's very sturdy especially. It has a lot of features and so on. The screen is nice and should be pretty scratch resistant. The battery life so far seems pretty good but maybe I don't have all my features enabled? But there are a lot of rough edges to the experience. I do wish the charging port was on the side rather than underneath. But I'm not sure where they could fit it... The documentation is not very good. There is a lot of documentation but there are definite gaps in it. So while it is great to see a lot of things documented a lot of that documentation is incomplete where it appears at least and the rest of the needed details are elsewhere. For example the section on the flash light isn't very clear on how to turn it on properly and worse it does NOT tell you how to turn it back off anywhere on those pages. I finally found it in another section discussing uses of the buttons. Another example are the docs about the buttons, in some places they are labeled as things like start, stop, back, forward etc, but the page on the buttons doesn't actually call any of them by these names. The only place I ever saw those names was in a start up tutorial that I can't even tell how to revisit. So the places where it tells you to hold certain buttons to perform some action are pretty useless because you unless you memorized that brief tutorial you don't know which button is which. And it just goes on from there... Some of the buttons are awkward to push and worse some of them expect a double push to do something which is hard to do repeatedly. Like the above flashlight. One button can but double "tapped" to turn it on and off. But the button is really awkward to push even once let alone twice in a very short period. So I'm have about a 50% chance of turning the light on or off when I want to do so. And sometimes it thinks I double press it when I don't too..... Not sure about the wristband but silicone seems like a bad idea since I think you need to keep it kind of tight. So in less than a day the skin under the band starts to itch etc. So I've had a treat that area and then shift the band about an inch away in a less comfortable spot. I ordered a cloth band hoping it will help this but who knows. it might be a flaw to all such watches. I guess for use in swimming though I would want the silicone band so... it's a toss up which is better. I do like how the bands have a quick release on them instead of having to use a tiny screw driver to try to take off the bar holding the band and then trying to put it back in place. If it did not I might have returned it right there. ... show more
