  • Better for bigger tanks
Bought this for my betta since I’m gone on weekends, after doing some tests I found even the smallest portion setting would be too much for him. Would definitely be better for bigger tanks or more fish

  • Accidental Experiment but Learned a Lot!
Lessons learned on this accidental experiment: 1) some fish in planted tanks can stay alive & well without traditional food for 10 days & tiny fish food doesn’t work well or you end up over-feeding & risking dead fish later. (Pics are over-fed bottom of tank, size of fish food & opening on feeder). NOTE: Feeders work great without any mechanical problems. Test before you leave though with manual button. I have 6 planted fish tanks & was leaving for 10 days. I read good reviews & bought for each tank. I came home to find I never opened up the fish food opening on feeders on 3 of the feeders & amazingly all those fish were alive & fine. They must’ve eaten off the algae on plants I’m guessing (I have bettas, tetra & guppies). Unfortunately the tanks that did get fed were over-fed big time & one tank had 4-5 dead fish & the water smelled awful & was clouded up. The other fed fish tank had way too much uneaten food on the bottom of the tank. To be fair, I use tiny granules for fish food & even the smallest opening in fish feeder STILL dumped too much food in. I spent 2 hrs cleaning up the fish tank with dead fish & another hour on the other over-fed fish tank. ... show more

  • Once in place, it works very well for constant use.
Using the sticky double sided disk to adhere to the top of the lid, this held it place great (might not be easy to remove) Just make sure you've got the food exit in the right spot to hit the small opening for beta tank lids. It took a few times using the manual button and a piece of paper to catch the food, to get it in the right spot before sticking it down. The next challenge is adjusting the opening for the right volume of food, but this is based on the type of food you use. I first tried with beta pellets at the smallest opening, but that was still way too much food for a single beta. Smallest opening was a bit too small for just flakes, so I mixed flakes and pellets (80%/20%) to get just the right single pinch amount for daily feeding. I also used the manual several times to make sure it was always dispensing the right amount. For a cheap unit it is not bad, IF you take the time to set it up right. The next issue was "trust", but verifying it really was working every 24 hours. I took to balancing a stir straw on the top, so I could see that it had actually rotated every day. I did this for 1 week and it worked perfectly. Great buy for the price, as long as you take the time to tweak everything just right. ... show more

  • Timer stopped working
I purchased this product four months ago. At first it worked well, with my only issue being the portion size was large for a beta even on the smallest setting. But it did what it was supposed to. However, I noticed a few weeks ago that it no longer fed on a timer. If I press the manual feed button, it spins and drops food. But the timer option no longer works, even after changing batteries and re-setting it up. The instructions that came with it were not in English and very lacking, so I am not sure if there is a way to troubleshoot this. Looks like I will have to purchase another feeder, perhaps a smaller one this time since it is for one fish. I figured it would last longer than almost four months when purchasing. ... show more

  • Great feeder but could use some small extra features.
I do love how great this feeder has been. It’s quiet, feeds the fish and my beta is alive. I have never used this for flakes, so I cannot say how well it works for that. So pros: does it’s job. Cons: not huge problems, it would just make it easier to manage if these were improved One, the size of the hole is not ranged enough to get the right portion size for my fish. I have one bet. I put it on the smallest hole size, and it still releases way too much food. I put a piece of tape over 2/3 of the slot, and that has solved that problem. 2: I wish there was a way to know it was on and working other than just pushing the manual feed button. Like if there was a little light or something. Then you would know if the batteries were dead. I’d also like a power switch. All said, it’s a feeder that works. Just a couple more features I wish it had. ... show more

  • I guess it’s worth it
I was going away for a week and was nervous about coming home to a dead fish. But this feeder did the job. I know I was extra,😭 wish the feeder came in a smaller size. Only thing I would fix about it. I am happy my fish survived.

  • Easy to Use, But Forms Clumps Over Time
This is very easy to set up. The instruction manual is in Japanese, which I can't read, but it was simple enough to puzzle out by inspection. Super easy, barely an inconvenience. However. It has a downside. I set one of these on each of my aquariums to take care of my fish while I was in the hospital and then recovering away from home for a month. When I came back, I found the fish food (Fluval Bug Bites flakes) had mostly solidified into a spongy mass inside the barrel!!! I'm not sure how or why this happened, and thankfully it hasn't molded so I can just break it apart manually, but it is concerning. Overall: recommended, but keep an eye on the food in the barrel, and try not to fill it too much lest it clump up. ... show more
