  • Terrific step up from older ScanSnap models! Great for Mac as well as PC users!
Style: ScanSnap iX1500 White
I have had a ScanSnap 1300 for many years. It was great when it worked, but paper feeding was hit-or-miss, often jamming with the paper going sideways or multiple sheets slipping through. The software for Mac was increasingly out of date, and it took a lot of search for work-arounds to keep it running. I finally bit the bullet and bought the ix1500. Wow! What an improvement! The paper feed is buttery smooth. The software is fully up to date. The ability to create custom scan profiles is terrific. For example, I created a custom photo profile that scans duplex rather than simplex, discards blank pages, uses "excellent" rather than "best" quality, and minimizes compression. The first two options captures writing that might be on the back of a photo but discards the back image if it is blank. The "excellent" quality is actually BETTER than "best" because it scans at 600 DPI rather than 300 DPI. The "minimal compression" option gives best JPEG quality while still being smaller than TIFF. Setting it up wirelessly was a snap, and for faster file transfer I simply plug it into my Macbook. There are only a few small issues I've discovered so far: - As noted, I had to discover that there is an "excellent" mode for 600dpi rather than the 300dpi "best" mode by trial and error - it is not documented (or at least not in an obvious place). - As far as I can tell, the unit is limited to 8-bit per color depth even in TIFF mode. Flatbed scanners go to 16-bit per color depth or even higher for TIFF. JPEG is limited to 8-bit, and I did not want the size of TIFF files, so this was not a deal-breaker. It could be a deal-breaker for someone doing serious archiving and wanting the highest color fidelity. - Wireless scanning fails if you are doing 600dpi "excellent" mode and have more than about 5 pages in the hopper: the scanner is too fast for the data to transfer to your laptop, and instead of pausing scanning, it just fails. I never had problems with wireless scanning at 300dpi "best" mode. - Other reviews have mention seeing streaks on the scans - particularly thin blue lines. This means that a speck of dirt is stuck to the glass scanner plates. Open the scanner and gently clean the class plates on both sides with a soft cloth and a 50% mixture of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol. Eyeglass cleaner works fine too, but I would not use a window cleaner like Windex that has a lot of other chemicals in it. Fujitsu sells a ScanSnap cleaner called "F1" that the reviews say these work well, but it is crazy expensive - $25 for an ounce. l. You use the same fluid for cleaning the various rollers in the unit. I have found it necessary to clean the unit pretty frequently, especially when scanning dusty old photos. The online documentation recommends cleaning the glass daily and the rollers every 1000 pages. This information should be made added to the the quick set up guide. ... show more

  • It Just Works
Style: ScanSnap iX1500 White
I can't really speak to the complexities of all the features this scanner has, but for plug-and-play with Windows 10 and super-easy and fast scanning of documents (one-pass, it doesn't double-sided documents) it's an excellent scanner-- if not a little on the expensive side. I have an old Canon MF machine that I'd been using for PDF scanning, but this new ScanSnap is so much faster that I think it's worth the money. As my office moves to a more paperless format, I think I will buy one of these scanners for all my staff members. The footprint on the desk is small (about the size of a loaf of bread when folded compact), and it's easy to quickly open up, use, and the fold back down to it's smaller size. ... show more

  • Just Works
Style: ScanSnap iX1500 White
This scanner is fast, easy to set up, and easy to use. I plugged it into my Mac and after installing their drivers from their website it worked with no issue. You can configure profiles specific to your needs. As a person who scans a lot of documents this is exactly what I need as I don’t have to reconfigure defaults once I’ve set them. Also, you can avoid scanning to some of the cloud services by making a “Scan to Folder” profile. This was important for me as I don’t need or want my documents on the cloud. ... show more

  • Best Scanner Ever!
Style: ScanSnap iX1500 White
Best scanner ever! Once you get past the setup, this little scanner works like a charm. It is so much better than using my printer scanner. It rarely jams up, and if it does, you have options on saving what you scanned or deleting it to scan again. Is small and very portable. The only thing that I find difficult is you have to reset it when you get updates for the program. I am not technology savvy. ... show more

  • Better than my last ScanSnap scanner
Style: ScanSnap iX1500 White
I have had the S1500 for a long time. It still worked, just outdated software. I bought an Epson networked scanner for the office and it was really fast, but despite being a new device, didn't seem to have a lot of features. I needed to buy another scanner for a second office and read the reviews on the iX1500. There were good and bad. It's not as fast as the Epson, but still scans pretty fast. What I really like about this scanner is the receipt adapter. I scan receipts for work every day and this helps keep them in place while it scans. Is it perfect? Not always, but that's usually because I'm trying to scan a crinkled receipt to begin with. Otherwise, it's great. My second, maybe the first, favorite feature is the customizable scan settings. I scan bills, insurance certificates, receipts, and several other items frequently. It takes so much time naming the files exactly as I need to when I'm scanning. I would much rather scan and then have someone else go through and rename them. Sometimes I just want to scan them to a folder for someone else to work with. Other times I need to work with them. I can create a setting for just bills where the scanner will automatically put the file in a particular folder without any input from me other than hitting the button for that setting and then hitting Scan. If I have a bunch of checks to scan, I can hit that button and Scan. The files get scanned per my settings (simplex/duplex, color/b&w, etc.) and will put it in the folder I specified in the settings. So I don't have to keep changing where the scan gets saved. I can go back later and work with those files or my co-worker can. I have settings to scan bills to one folder, anther for lien waviers, a third for checks, and one for receipts, etc. It saves me so much time! I gave this 4 stars because of these reasons: the output tray is a tad short. It's not long enough to fit a letter sized paper, by about an inch, so sometimes folded pages start to push off the output tray. It's smooth so that receipts don't get caught like they do on my Epson. The other reason I gave it 4-stars is because the file save settings aren't as flexible as I wish they could be. We name everything starting with a code like INV for invoices, RCPT for receipts, etc. I can change some settings like to grab the date from the document and make that part of the file name, but I wish I could tell it to name all receipts with RCPT followed by the business name and date. It would help with renaming later. There's very little options with the file naming, unless I use the option where I tell it the file name after each scan, which defeats the purpose of scanning right to a folder without the step of naming it. I'm more focused on the priority of scanning and like to worry about naming later, when I'm not at the office or when someone else isn't busy. Otherwise, this is a really nice scanner. It could be faster, but I don't feel that the slower scan speed really makes a difference considering all the other time-saving options. There's a bit of a learning curve to setting up the custom menu, but once you figure it out, it's super easy to create a new one when you need to. ... show more

  • It's Changed My Life!
Style: ScanSnap iX1500 White
This scanner has been a life changer! I've had it a little over a year now and I have become absolutely dependent on it. I use the scanner to digitize my paperwork so that I have very little paper clutter. I had so much scanning to do last year that I thought it would take me a year to complete. Instead, I was able to complete that huge scanning projects in 8 days (once a week for 8 weeks). It is so easy to use and it quickly scans both sides of the paper at the same time! (Do NOT use this scanner for photos ... you will NOT get quality scans). It does not do well on extra thick card stock or cardboard, though. It also does not do very well with torn pages, but I have successfully scanned a Christmas card with glitter on it. The software is intuitive and I was able to get started immediately. It also has OCR if you need that. If you are looking to get your paperwork under control, this is the scanner for you! ... show more

  • Scanner is good support is worthless
Style: ScanSnap iX1500 White
Got this scanner and a version of Kofax was supposed to come with it. The website was down for a couple of weeks and there was no response from technical support on the issue. The scanner itself is awesome. Scans quickly and it is easy to setup jobs. Scanning to the web, not so much, but well worth the price. Scanning 60 page documents in less that 2 minutes. ... show more

  • Convenient and fast
Style: ScanSnap iX1500 White
I bought this to get out from under years of collecting too much physical paper. I have kept a lot of paper for reference and or financial reasons that may never be needed and the amount of space it takes for the off chance it's needed is a burden. This scanner has been a major improvement in decluttering the home office space. I mainly use it stand alone without it being attached to the PC. Often times even taking it into the living room to scan in papers while watching TV with the family. It has programmable presets on the built in screen so I can scan different papers into different virtual folders on my Google Drive. This is a huge organizational benefit. Also, it scans to searchable PDFs very quickly and tries to smartly name the files. The filenames are a bit of a mess at time but still allows me to find things easily and I can even rename the files from my phone on the associated app. Really a life changer for trying to go paperless! ... show more
