Just what I was looking for

I wanted to go as cheap as possible and still get a portable sheet feed document scanner that would do a decent job, and I am pleased with this one. Needless to say, if I want really good quality hi-res copies I will use my flat bed scanner, but if I am more interested in scanning a number of documents quickly, this will be my go-to. I just wish I had purchased it BEFORE I had to scan a bunch of documents recently! And BTW, although it is specifically a document scanner and the manual warns not to scan original photos (use a carrier sheet), I bought some carrier sheets and tried a photo in it and it did a respectable job with the photo too - again, not as good as an expensive scanner, but certainly as good as one could hope for the price. And good for the price is exactly what I was looking for.

I've had a 180 change of heart

When I opened the package and saw how small the unit is, I became very skeptical. I really did not believe that this item was going to perform. Boy was I wrong. This will probably become one of the best purchases I have ever made. Considering I came close to spending 4X more for other receipt printers, this was a bargain at less than $100. It is much faster than using my HP printer. The software is easy to figure out and use. The images are clear. It handled thermal paper receipts like a champ. Even receipts that had become crumpled in my purse or pocket. I was able to scan two years of receipts in a matter of a few hours. I recommend this product, and I would purchase it again. UPDATE: This product stopped working after about a year. I was very disappointed because I don't feel that products like this should be disposable. I expected more out of this company. UPDATE: I had problems with this scanner for about a year. It stopped working. Every so often I would tinker with the software. I don't know what I did but I fixed it. That was 5 years ago. I have been using it ever since. It is my go-to for scanning even though every printer I've had in the past 6 years has had a flatbed scanner (with feeders). This one is so much easier to use. It has helped me to become virtually paperless. Subsequently, I changed the rating on this review from 2 stars to 5.

Super Easy to Setup, Configure and Use - Love It !!

In the beginning I did want a flatbed scanner since in my experience they do a nice job with documents plus you can scan old photos too. But my main purpose was to have the ability to scan documents I needed to sign and send electronically. I was able to do that in less than 15 minutes from the un-boxing. Now to be fair when you use a feed type scanner, documents do not come out as straight and perfect like they can in a flat bed scanner, but for my purposes it is perfectly fine. It will scan pretty much anything you can run through the feeder. And what I like it it takes up no space. I keep it in the box and when I need it, I just plug in the USB cable, windows recognizes it, and I have my scans done in minutes. You can download the software for the unit, but you can also scan just using Windows if you need something simple. It does take some time to feed the documents in and all that, but for me that is not a problem. Normally I just need to scan one page, sign it, and send it as a PDF attachment in an email. It is a real compact solidly built unit which does not surprise me based on my past history with Epson products. I can definitely recommend this unit for someone needing a simple to use scanner. If you need portability, this one is a solid contender at this price point. I purchased this scanner after buying another, less expensive, flatbed scanner which was a real disappointment. If you are in the market for a scanner, make sure and read my other review. Chances are if your budget is similar you will be looking at similar units.

Simple to Use

The EPSON ES-50 is a basic single sheet scanner without a lot of frills. If you are looking for basic no hassle scanning from a single computer or device is just fine. For wireless shared scanning over a network, you must purchase the similar ES-60W. You must download the driver and software from EPSON onto your computer, but other than plugging it in a USB port nothing else is required. Very easy to use with one button scanning. It takes a gentle touch to get the paper lined up square since there are no paper guides, but for that you get a lightweight scanner with a small footprint. Since I plan to travel with it in my backpack, and it does not come with a case, I purchased a fitted case separately to protect it. I took a chance and purchased mine as "like new in original packaging" from Amazon resale to save 30 bucks. It came in generic packaging, but is like new and works just fine. Recommended.

I love this scanner! I don’t really get the negative reviews. For the price and the functionality you get, it’s amazing. I’m the type of person who does tons of research before I buy most anything. This includes scanners like this. I was fairly hesitant due to some negative reviews, but I decided to take a chance because I really loved how small, compact and minimalistic this was. I am so happy with my purchase. I have a Mac and setup was a breeze. The minimalist design and the tiny footprint is exactly what I was looking for You don’t have to pay for any additional software for it to function (but I do think you have to download their app, which is free… I don’t know if this is an absolute requirement to use the scanner, but I installed their app because it comes with great feature that make it extremely easy to manage scans and save them. I actually love the features that it provides at no cost so I would recommend downloading it… again, it’s FREE) It just does what it’s supposed to do. One thing to notice is that due to its minimal size if you’re a bit of a perfectionist OCD person like myself you have to be a little more careful about how you load each page to ensure the scans are fed evenly. I assume this is an issue with any scanner but even moreso with something that’s as compact as this and doesn’t have the guides to ensure precise feeding. If you’re looking for a compact scanner, that is efficient, effective and easy to use, I would absolutely recommend this.

Black Streaks That Won't Go Away in Epson Workforce ES-50 Scanner

Have had the EPSON WorkForceES-50 for 11 months. I'm a very light user, scanning only 4-5 documents a month. In no time, I had a black streak appearing on my images. Today I decided to clean it with their cleaning cloth. This added two additional black streaks. Very disappointing given that my previous Epson scanner lasted many years. A total waste of money being that I cannot scan documents or images without the streaks. I also want to add that it is stored in the box when not in use and it is for home use, so it's not as though it is exposed to dirt and dust.

Perfect Mobile Scanner

Great compact mobile scanner - it’s meant for letter sized paper, it only has so many rollers to pull, so if you don’t line them up for receipts, etc. it won’t work, but you can do numerous receipts if lined properly (easier sideways IMO). It only feeds one sheet at a time, but it’s quick, and the software was extremely easy to install/use. For being as tiny and quiet as it is, I say it’s a perfect companion if you’re on the move, or limited space. USB connection makes it compatible with about anything, and no batteries or cords to worry about. Highly recommended needless to say

Small scanner Big Results

This scanner is 10.5x1.0x1.5 and it does exactly what it says it does. Most of my scanning is legal size, so this is the best scanner for me. I already have an Epson4800 printer that is under 2 years old and the rollers went bad and crumpled and the placed a blick line down the center that no amount of cleaning could fix. I needed a self feed scanner. This was the best bet. Very simple to install to a USB port and has an on button and a scan button. When your in the software choose ADP (for feed scan) and check the add/save box for multiple scans to one document file (of your choice), when done then click save. You can save to many file extensions like pdf or jpeg. I even installed a little shelf on the wall to hold it when not in use. The rollers are of good quality, just wait to feed a second sheet until the first drops all the out. Also Totally portable. This is one of the better Epson products.
