I wanted to go as cheap as possible and still get a portable sheet feed document scanner that would do a decent job, and I am pleased with this one. Needless to say, if I want really good quality hi-res copies I will use my flat bed scanner, but if I am more interested in scanning a number of documents quickly, this will be my go-to. I just wish I had purchased it BEFORE I had to scan a bunch of documents recently! And BTW, although it is specifically a document scanner and the manual warns not to scan original photos (use a carrier sheet), I bought some carrier sheets and tried a photo in it and it did a respectable job with the photo too - again, not as good as an expensive scanner, but certainly as good as one could hope for the price. I love this scanner! I don’t really get the negative reviews. For the price and the functionality you get, it’s amazing. I’m the type of person who does tons of research before I buy most anything. This includes scanners like this. I was fairly hesitant due to some negative reviews, but I decided to take a chance because I really loved how small, compact and minimalistic this was. I am so happy with my purchase. I have a Mac and setup was a breeze. The minimalist design and the tiny footprint is exactly what I was looking for You don’t have to pay for any additional software for it to function (but I do think you have to download their app, which is free… I don’t know if this is an absolute requirement to use the scanner, but I installed their app because it comes with great feature that make it extremely easy to manage scans and save them. I actually love the features that it provides at no cost so I would recommend downloading it… again, it’s FREE) It just does what it’s supposed to do. One thing to notice is that due to its minimal size if you’re a bit of a perfectionist OCD person like myself you have to be a little more careful about how you load each page to ensure the scans are fed evenly. I assume this is an issue with any scanner but even moreso with something that’s as compact as this and doesn’t have the guides to ensure precise feeding. If you’re looking for a compact scanner, that is efficient, effective and easy to use, I would absolutely recommend this. ... show more

For the size and price, the little machine is effective. I use when I visit client sites and want to scan their docs rather than retain their originals. I downloaded the driver to multiple Windows laptops. Getting the scanner to work on multiple computers was not as easy as switching the USB plug between computers. The EPSON ES-50 is a basic single sheet scanner without a lot of frills. If you are looking for basic no hassle scanning from a single computer or device is just fine. For wireless shared scanning over a network, you must purchase the similar ES-60W. You must download the driver and software from EPSON onto your computer, but other than plugging it in a USB port nothing else is required. Very easy to use with one button scanning. It takes a gentle touch to get the paper lined up square since there are no paper guides, but for that you get a lightweight scanner with a small footprint. Since I plan to travel with it in my backpack, and it does not come with a case, I purchased a fitted case separately to protect it. I took a chance and purchased mine as "like new in original packaging" from Amazon resale to save 30 bucks. It came in generic packaging, but is like new and works just fine. Scanner works as intended, needs additional attention when inserting documents so they aren't crooked in the scan. Little bit of learning curve but nothing frustrating. Been using one for several years, no issues with scanner or software. Used for scanning small scale personal documents.

Have had the EPSON WorkForceES-50 for 11 months. I'm a very light user, scanning only 4-5 documents a month. In no time, I had a black streak appearing on my images. Today I decided to clean it with their cleaning cloth. This added two additional black streaks. Very disappointing given that my previous Epson scanner lasted many years. A total waste of money being that I cannot scan documents or images without the streaks. I also want to add that it is stored in the box when not in use and it is for home use, so it's not as though it is exposed to dirt and dust. ... show more

When I opened the package and saw how small the unit is, I became very skeptical. I really did not believe that this item was going to perform. Boy was I wrong. This will probably become one of the best purchases I have ever made. Considering I came close to spending 4X more for other receipt printers, this was a bargain at less than $100. It is much faster than using my HP printer. The software is easy to figure out and use. The images are clear. It handled thermal paper receipts like a champ. Even receipts that had become crumpled in my purse or pocket. I was able to scan two years of receipts in a matter of a few hours. I recommend this product, and I would purchase it again. UPDATE: This product stopped working after about a year. I was very disappointed because I don't feel that products like this should be disposable. I expected more out of this company. UPDATE: I had problems with this scanner for about a year. It stopped working. Every so often I would tinker with the software. I don't know what I did but I fixed it. That was 5 years ago. I have been using it ever since. It is my go-to for scanning even though every printer I've had in the past 6 years has had a flatbed scanner (with feeders). This one is so much easier to use.
