The code reader itself is very lightweight and made of plastic. I bought it to read the fault codes on my ABS system in my van and when it was delivered I was happy that I could use it right away. The code reader doesn't need to be charged or takes batteries, it's power source is through the 12v battery in a vehicle or a USB connection to a computer. I updated the system before I ran a diagnostics scan before I used it which didn't take long, maybe a half hour. When I ran a scan for the control module and for ABS it took only a minute or two to come up with the codes. Next to the codes it gives you a possible reason. I don't remember the code but it was UFFF01 or something and it was giving the reason right front wheel speed failure, so it's not difficult to figure out where you need to start to solve the problem with the vehicle. It came in it's own small case for storage. The only thing I don't like about it is it feels like if it were to get dropped by accident, it would easily break.
