    • A good OBD-II scanner with ABS, SRS & Steering system diagnosis
I bought this to keep in the glove box of my 2006 RX-8. I thought all OBD-II scanners sold lately were equipped with ABS, SRS & other diagnostic functions, but it doesn't seem so. This was on sale with $20 off, so I bought it. This is to keep in the glove box of my 2006 RX-8, and for this purpose this tool would suffice. Tried it, and the auto VIN works and other functions are easy to navigate through. For high-end shops, this may not suffice but for home mechanics or those who do not wish to spend thousands of $$$ at a dealer/shop, this would save you a fortune. For Honda/Acura owners, note that Honda uses unique protocol for accessing control modules for ECU, ABS, SRS & what not. Even some Snap-on diagnostic tablets seem to have difficulty communicating with Honda vehicles. I have an Actron CP9580A in the dash of my 2004 Acura TL. The Actron is near-perfect tool for the majority of non-professionals in that it is loaded with all- system diagnostic functions (except for BODY/CAN systems). Unfortunately, it is no longer available and I bought mine in 2014 at $230. It also has x3 AAA batteries, as well as use vehicle battery power, while this Foxwell only uses vehicle battery, so you cannot power it unless it is connected to a vehicle or a PC. If the Actron was still available, that would have been the one I bought. However, at this price this Foxwell is also a good value. My main diagnostic platform is Autel Maxisys MS906BT (BlueTooth, so you can use it via wireless). This lets me do everything that an HDS (Honda Diagnostic System used at Honda & Acura dealers) can do, including ECU & duplicate key programming (an HDS is about $10,000 I believe). The Autel was about $1,300 and you may think it's over-priced, but several dealer visits would pay it off. I work as an airline plane tech, so the Autel is no rocket science (anyone who uses smart phones/tablets can use it with no hassle). Besides, the Autel is not just a diagnostic tablet but can function as, well, a tablet so it comes with Chrome & other tablet functions (the OS is Android). For such system, $1,200 was a serious bargain for me. You can also connect borescope camera, has USB 2.0 & mini-USB interface as well as micro SD slot. It is one of the best investments I made for my vehicles. The only issue is that the free software update is for 1 year, and after that you have to pay monthly subscription fees to access updates for a price. However, neither of my vehicles needs updates so it does not affect me. Newer vehicles may come with systems that a hand-held scanner is of little help, but Autel with updates would be able to resolve just about any issues. Update on 6/26/24: The seller is serious about making sure the customers are satisfied with their purchases. If you're not satisfied for any reason, this seller would make sure that you are 100% happy.     • Wow, This Thing Solved My Problem And $aved A Bundle...
I was having problems with a “soft” brake pedal on my 2007 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. Although it had always had a softer brake pedal than I prefer from day one, it suddenly went from soft to almost to the floor for an unknown reason. Vacuum assist worked great so that part was okay. So then I went the usual way of chasing parts…got a new master cylinder, bench bled it, installed it and put all new fluid in the master cylinder and all the lines. But, still no change! Bled all 4 wheels (in proper sequence) at least 4 times and no change! The pads had less than 10k miles on them and they still looked new. No leaking of brake lines or calipers or stuck calipers, so I was in a real quandary! Exhausted all the remedies suggested by the “experts” on the internet (some of them being totally absurd, some were “well duh” like I'm stupid and some of simple mindlessness). I almost gave up and resigned myself to become a “pedal-pumper”…something my wife totally objected to being herself. So, it was either drop $60 grand for a new Wrangler for her or get my a%% in gear and get it fixed. The only thing left was the ABS system…something I confess to not knowing much about and probably could not fix and knew was probably very expensive to fix. So, I did more in-depth technical research and came upon the idea that maybe it was just air in the ABS system. But, how do I bleed the ABS system? More research and more stupid answers on the internet, so what am I going to do? Although, there were no trouble lights indicating ABS problems (yes, the bulbs lit up on ignition/start-up diagnostics), maybe it was worth a try to get a diagnostics done. So, I asked around and found out that the stealership would do that, but just for the diagnostics it would be around $175 and 2 or 3 days of waiting around for them to “around to it”. Then probably a grand or two to fix it (they don't just fix it, they replace the whole system) and more waiting around! More internet research! Finally, I did find some info about scanners that could autobleed ABS systems…what? Yeah, it was true and specifically information this FOXWELL NT630 Plus scanner! Could this be true? I contacted FOXWELL just to make sure that it would do an ABS autobleed and specifically on my Wrangler? They responded immediately with an affirmative, and also gave me a ton of other info about how to upgrade this unit to the latest software and such off of their website. I mean, they are customer-oriented to the max! I thought to myself that this is a no-brainer as this unit would cost me less than a diagnostic session at the stealership and I would have a scanner of my own! So, I ordered it, updated the firmware with the FOXWELL latest software upgrades and attached it to my Wrangler's OBD. Yeah, I was a bit nervous, but I did exactly what the video and written instructions told me to do, followed the on-screen dialogue and what happened next absolutely floored me. As the FOXWELL NT630 Plus went through it's diagnostics and repair sequence, there were some noises coming from under the hood and my brake pedal vibrated (just like the instructions said would happen). I then shut everything down as instructed by the on-screen dialogue and disconnected the unit from the OBD. Started the engine again and stepped on the brake pedal and nearly fell to the floor. The brake pedal was back with more firmness than ever before and now 3 months later, still as firm as it was after this unit fixed the ABS system! Thank you, FOXWELL…for a great product and really great customer support! Thanks for saving me literally thousand$ of dollars! I am so grateful! I am not a spokesman for this company, am not an employee of this company, nor did anyone ask me for a positive review. Worked better than I thought. Bought it originally to do an electronic ABS brake bleed on a 03 Chevy Silverado. . Only giving 4 stars because the instructions are not very clear as is the website. Thought it was a plug and play unit. When I got it, it made me go to a website, plug it into my laptop to register it for its updates. It kinda made it sound like I couldn’t use it unless I did so. After 20 mins of frustration, I was going to return it. Instead I just went to the vehicle and tried it. It worked flawlessly.. If you ever had a scan tool as a professional, it will be a breeze. It’s easy for diy as well. Easy to navigate and packed with features you only get on a high end scanner I would highly recommend this scanner as a backup for the pro, and a go to for the diy. Just be patient with the initial setup. I’ve had high end scanners that I paid thousands for, and for under $200, it did the job. The price was less than I would have spent going to a shop and having them do the work,,,and I still have the scanner for the future use. A win win. ... show more

    • More than just a code reader
Likely the best tool I ever added to my box. This Scanner couldn't be easier to use for a backyard mechanic and it does so much more than just tell you what your problem code is and means. My first use of it, for which I bought it, saved me well over 500 bucks as it allowed me to detect the problem and after replacing the part it made a complete hands free adjustment and reset of the steering and braking components while I sat behind the wheel watching it do its thing. Updates for every car I've used it on have only taken a few minutes with the scanner plugged into my PC and a very simple app downloaded from their website. 10/10 would recommend it over any cheaper scanner on the market ... show more

    • Product does not do what it claims to do!!!
The NT630 OBDII Scanner works right out of the box; that is, it powers up and can be connected to the car and read VIN and other DTC's automatically or on command. However it does not seem to be able to do any Automated ABS Brake Bleed tests, at least not on Mazda. It has a laborious menu of different sub-functions of an ABS modulator; but unfortunately without detailed engineering knowledge of the specific ABS module on a car, I am not even sure even if one had that detailed information whether one would be able to effectively Bleed the ABS Control Module. I think the device manufacturer makes false claims about what can be supported by the ABS Bleed. Note I am not categorically stating that there may be a few cars in their list of support where Automated ABS Bleed is possible. It's likely that some cars can be ABS Bled with this unit. However there is no indication in the user manual or their website on exactly which cars can be effectively have their brakes bled in this manner. I wasted a lot of time... waiting for this to arrive and then trying to get it to work. Also there is a real scarcity of useful videos that demonstrate the ABS Bleed function for this unit. So I am leery after my experience about what this device is really capable of. One would imagine that an OBDII scanner that is specifically touted as an ABS Module Brake Bleeder, should have videos that explicitly demonstrate that feature on a variety of cars, or at least have a list of cars on which this feature is explicitly supported. I am terribly disappointed. The advice I give potential buyers is question the data you get from the manufacturer and understand exactly what the tool can do for you before purchase. Just reading ABS fault codes and toggling inlet and outlet brake ports may not be the solution to what you need to do. For what I have experienced, I would try to give a ZERO. Excellent tool! Subaru C Codes removed, calibrated abs, steering angle, and g sensor after grounding issue and then created codes. Cleared subsequent codes. All good. All for the price of a trip to a shop for them to do the same and now I own the scanner to do in the future.     • Better, but not still not great for 987.1's
Using this on a 987.1 Cayman, 2008. I tried the iCarSoft POR V2.0 before this, which didn't work at all. This unit is still stuck to the slower bus of the standard OBDII, but it did allow me to reset my service reminders and a few other things. It's still limited to basic functions, so you can't change stuff like door lock behavior, and I couldn't figure out how to disable the passenger airbag (my car doesn't have the physical disable switch on the side of the passenger door dashboard). It can also pull some rudimentary data from OBD, such as rpm, speed, intake temp, coolant temp, etc. with some catches. Firstly, the data is polled every half second, or maybe a little faster. When trying to troubleshoot a problem, if you do a WOT pull, it won't give you enough detail on timing unless you somehow had the space to do it in 4th or 5th gear. However, it is good enough to keep an eye on coolant temperature for example, which is a potential problem area for at least my generation car. The second issue is more minor, but basically the data is stored in a strange format. If you try to overwrite with the same name, it will glitch and not record your data, so always remember to change the name of the save file. Once it is saved, you are supposed to use the Foxwell program to view the data, but their viewer is odd and the software is a bit of a pain to use in general. You can rename the files to .csv, but then you have to go through the CSV file and manually add a time column and delete the bracket characters and such to get it to load up in other datalog viewing programs. It's doable, but definitely not a great solution. I kept this one and returned the iCarSoft, so I guess that's my verdict. For the low $100 range it's the best you can do I guess, but honestly I should've just saved up the $279 for a Durametric and done that instead, as that would've offered a much more complete solution and much better data logging tech. Still, this one lives in the car and after installing a third radiator kit, gave me peace of mind about temps on track so it has some value. ... show more
