I purchased the plastic housing version of the pump for the purpose of draining my ~18000 gallon in ground pool. I used a 2" flat drain hose. Although the supplied adaptor only goes up to 1.5 inches, I had no problem attaching and clamping the hose directly to the pump's outlet. I set the pump in the deepest part of the pool, around six feet below grade, and plugged it in. The pump is slightly top heavy and the initial power kick tipped it over on its side, but once the hose filled with water, I had no further issues. It took about 8 hours to completely drain the pool, which is a somewhat lower flow rate than specified for that lift, but in all fairness, it was not possible to prevent some restrictions in the hose due to bends and I was happy with the results. I can't at this time comment on the pump's longevity, but the housing appears to be well made. Regardless, even if I get only this single use from it, the purchase price was about the same as two day pump rental at the local big-box hardware store, so well worth the price. ... show more

Which is a good thing...lol for the most part it's super straightforward easy to use. I wish it had a switch to close of the intake hole when removing it. If you don't keep it running then it releases everything back into the empty water area.

Bought this to drain the pool quickly. It does draw 4' but at a reduced pull. Rated at 1hp but nothing compared to a half horse pool pump. It does the trick for us so it got 3 stars but it's really got very little suction. I can siphon by sucking thru a hose and getting it going and it's nearly as fast draining. ... show more

I was happily surprised by how well this works! It gets the water out really fast and was easy to use. It did get a little clogged a couple of times because I had some nasty things in the bottom of the pool, but it was easy to unclog and got the water out so quick! This was a great purchase!
