  • Interesting idea - flawed execution.
I have three problems with this chair: 1. The seat top is uncomfortable - it's molded in such a way that you have to sit in it at a specific angle (you have to be mostly on top of it) for it to be comfortable. But this is a standing chair, so you're often going to be leaning against it, in a tripod, and if you do that, the angle is going to make the molding make the chair feel bad. Either that, or you're going to angle it so much that it start sliding. 2. The base doesn't work well - First, it slides if you angle it too much. Secondly, it has these strange bumps on the base, which means that when you're sitting on it you're going to feel those bumps , and the chair is going to turn and twist based on where they are. I have no idea what those bumps are for, (maybe traction?) but they are terrible. 3. Every now and then, the chair falls apart. The seat of the chair is press-fitted onto the post. Every now and then, when you are adjusting the position of the chair, the seat pops off. It's dangerous, you can lose balance when the chair disassembles. I've almost fallen over several times. ... show more

  • I personally could not get comfortable.
This is really nicely made, really nicely packaged, and a good idea all around. To answer one reviewers question - the ribs on the bottom keep the base from rolling out from under you at more extreme angles, and they are fairly effective at that. Unfortunately it did not work for me. I'm 6'4" 200lbs. The chair was tall enough and sturdy enough, but the problem I encountered was how far the air cylinder moved down when I shifted my weight onto it. If I started to lean on it at the height I wanted, I would end up way too low, with my pants pulled up uncomfortably. In order to end up at the height I wanted, I had to initially position it very high, and then sort of mount it like a tall bike seat. It would then sink down to where I wanted, but I had to do that maneuver far away from my desk so that I was back at my desk when I tipped it forward to a leaning position. Even then it was like I was sitting on the edge of a stool rather than leaning. At the angle I needed for leaning it also slides (very slowly) on vinyl plank floors. At no point did it feel dangerous or unpredictable. Fortunately I was able to return it. Note to others the top comes off using the air-cylinder release lever. The bottom will come out if you twist the pole as you pull.. It doesn't seem like it is going to budge, but it does eventually. ... show more

  • Very well designed, highly recommended
I've used this for about 4 days now. I'm a genuine buyer here not a shill reviewer. I'm an illustrator that works on a computer tablet for hours at a time so I needed help in the ergonomics dept. This seat, I could tell from the moment I put it together, is very heavy duty and well made using high grade materials. It's not a cheap seat so you're getting what you pay for here. Assembly is just putting the seat and base on the post, couldn't be simpler. In practical use, since you're going to be shifting some force to your legs, you're really are going to need some kind of foot support so check out the solidly built "Active Collection FFR-1000 Stabilizing Footrest" - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014VAY4G0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . I bought this, too, and it works great with the Pivot seat. This footrest is also nice to use as a stretching bar for your calves (just stand on it with your toes and let the back of your feet drop down). I also bought the "Varidesk Standing Desk Anti-Fatigue Active Comfort Floor Mat" - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HE16XYE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - which can potentially take the place of that footrest since it has a decent lip in the front to rest your feet while using the Pivot seat. Back to the Pivot seat: the seat itself is firm foam rubber material so it may cause some discomfort if you're on this thing for an extended time. That can be greatly relieved by placing a small, thin, non-slippery cushion between you and the seat. I've been experimenting, though, and find that using no cushion and just tipping the Pivot at a more extreme angle distributes the pressure more evenly on the butt (footrest support of some kind is necessary, though). I even find reversing the seat so the back is at the front gives me more support, so experiment to find what works best for you. The hydraulic tube and adjustment grips that are on both sides of the seat work great. Having the adjustment grips on both sides was a smart design choice as it maintains your balance as you change the height of the seat. My studio seating setup now only shifts between standing (using the Varidesk mat) and this Pivot seat -- since getting the Pivot I no longer use my regular old drafting chair and do not miss it! This kind of seating feels SO much better on the butt and legs over time. It's vitally important to avoid getting Deep Vein Thrombosis in your legs so, please, do NOT sit all the time while working as you are, potentially, seriously damaging your health by doing so. Another tip: in addition to the above I also placed a medicine ball (8 lb size) on the floor and just slowly roll that back and forth while standing. You can also use tennis balls for that, too. Anything that prevents your lower half from locking into a static position while working is crucial to your health. Sitting all the time is VERY bad for you but alternating between standing, leaning, and moving your legs with intermittent stretching over time will vastly improve your health and how you feel at the end of the day. ... show more
