  • I have used it at the fire department training sessions.

  • Micro USB Version (435-0011-01) of the FLIR One Pro Where do I start?
Style: Pro Micro-USB
I did a lot of research prior to purchase, but nothing prepared me for the endless circle of issues I encountered. 1) Warranty - Flir advertises the warranty as a 2-year (parts and labor) /10-year (Thermal sensor) on their website. Upon opening the product, the enclosed paperwork says 1-year. I went to the support page and it says you may be entitled to an extra extended 1-year warranty upon registering the product. Unfortunately, registering the product is currently an issue. You create your account, no problem. Verify your email address, again, no problem. Now you get to the fun stage of attempting to register the item via its serial number. That's a problem. The FLIR support webpage uses a version of Flash and while it does open the registration page, it continually times out. I attempted to do it first with my Chrome browser, then Mozilla Firefox, and lastly M$ Edge. I disabled my VPN, turned off browser privacy extensions, all with the same result, a webpage that hangs/times out. Eventually, 2 days later, I was able to get it to work, well almost. I entered the serial number, and upon verifying it, again the page timed out. 3 days into this saga, I finally got through the registration portion. Now on to see what Flir would acknowledge as my warranty, again, the My Account/Products page did what the registration page did, timed-out, again and again. (See photos) Now let's look at the product and see why I gave up and processed it for a return. 2) Complications, a lot of complications- This model (435-0011-01) is a USB Micro connector, FLIR One Pro. It is supposed to work natively with phones that have a USB Micro charging connection, as well as Android phones with a USB-C connection if you are using an OTG USB adaptor. A) Samsung S7 edge is the 1st phone I connected to the thermal camera. Although it worked and gave a beautiful monitor for the camera, using the FLIR One app, when I would traverse the app's functions, it randomly crashed the app. I tried to see if there was an updated firmware version (FLIR One app MENU/Settings/Support/About FLIR ONE). It listed my current firmware as 1.0.27, and below it a Check for Update link. As much as I tried to check for an updated Firmware, the link would just go into a rotating circle that never advanced from there. Probably a good thing, because if I started to update the firmware and it crashed, it most likely would have bricked the thermal camera. B) I also own a Samsung Note 8 and have an OTG adaptor it came with originally. I installed the app and connected the FLIR One Pro with the OTG adaptor, but the app software never recognized the thermal camera. On Flir's website, they do state that the "FLIR One" doesn't work with the Note 8, but if you know FLIR's products, there is a previous version known specifically as a FLIR One. On their webpage, it reads, "If your phone has a type C USB socket and your FLIR ONE has a Micro-USB connector, you need an adapter. Any of the brands available on the market can be used—but the adapter must be OTG capable." It did not. Is it because of the Note 8 issue listed? Possibly, but that would mean EVERY generation of the FLIR One don't work Note 8s, and there are quite a few videos online where they ARE using the Note 8 and a FLIR One Pro, just not the Micro USB version of the camera. 3) Conclusion- If I could get my S7 Edge to work without the app crashing constantly, and I could confirm the warranty was 2yr/10yr with phone support, I would have kept this. The product at $299 (currently) is quite affordable for it's known capabilities. I returned the FLIR C3 without even trying it because the FLIR One Pro has a thermal imager that is 4x as sharp @160 x 120. At this point, I may be forced to buy the C5 which has the same 160x120 thermal imager, but at an additional $400 cost over the FLIR One Pro. Also, unfortunately, the FLIR C5 doesn't do video capture. Because it is a great price at $299, I understand why you may still want to attempt this yourself. Honestly, if I hadn't been through all this, I would too, so I wish you luck with it. It clearly works for some people, or this model wouldn't still be available. The FLIR One Pro is an awesome thermal camera solution IF you can get it to work as advertised. ... show more

  • Works better than expected!
Style: Pro Micro-USB
I use the Flir One Pro to find overheating components on electronic circuit boards. Works great, and I was able to fix three circuit boards on the first day! Then, I used it to find energy leaks in the house. This will definitely pay for itself this summer... The calibrated temperature scale and points of interest tool are very useful. ... show more

poor battery life, they should have made it larger for a better battery, very poor user information with very small print, shameful product decision. It should come with much better users manual printed in the standard 12 font, not the 2 font used. the provided manual is greatly lacking in presentation of a good product, Sales department failed. ... show more

  • 2 bad units for micro USB "One Pro" camera
Style: Pro Micro-USB
The first one I received took a bit of effort to get going, but it was neat for the hour or so it worked before the battery ran out. I tried to run it again the next day, but I couldn't get it to do anything. No lights, no response. I tried to call customer support but the phone said it was out of business hours, even though I called at noon on a weekday. The internet chat responded and immediately told me to return it without trying to step me through troubleshooting. I get the impression they've been dealing with this a lot. Amazon sent me a replacement quickly. The replacement was DOA. The power button would light up when plugged in, but the charging light would not. The camera would not turn on. I think the battery may not have been connected internally. I tried calling flir customer support but the system hung up on me before I got a representative. I called back and the system said it would keep me in line if I hung up, and to expect a call back. They did not call back, so I returned it again. Amazon sent a refund instead of a replacement this time. I'm not sure if it was from too many returns, or if they ran out. I was using the camera with a Galaxy S7. The camera did not come with a user manual, just a QR code with a link to an app that Google didn't want me to install thrift a web browser. I couldn't find detailed instructions in the app either, but I eventually found a "quick start guide", which was buried and hidden. I bought the because it seemed like a good deal at less than $300, but I think the discount must be to clear out a bad batch of factory rejects with an "eh, maybe some will work" mentality. It upsets me the company would put the burden of a bad product on customers and their retail partners, instead of testing them at the factory. Flir has damaged their reputation. I expect better from an established brand, and my bad experience with this hobbyist "pro" product will adversely affect my recommendations against Flir's actual professional products. ... show more

  • Avoid this model if Flir
Style: Pro Micro-USB
Great when it works. Purchased one, had problems trying to get it to turn on. It would come on by itself and turn off by itself. Thinking it was defective I returned it for another one with similar problems. I tried getting help from the Flir site as well as the rest of the internet, these have a lot of problems. The photos are great when you can get the thing to work. I guess we need to wait for a 3rd generation product, or a change of manufacturer before trying again. Would be a great product if they can get the quality right. ... show more

  • This works better than I thought it would
Style: Pro Micro-USB
This works better than I thought it would. It does only have about 15 minute a battery life, but a lot can be accomplished in those 15 minutes. There is a learning curve, but it is small. I'm not a home professional, and this probably doesn't compare to those units, and I wouldn't expect it too. It's good for what it is. ... show more
