  • Excellent for Big, Tall, Beastie Men! (and ladies)
Color: Black Leathersoft
My last big, intensive use chair lasted me 4 years. Instead of cloth I went with leather this time around, plus a lot more padding on my buttocks, thighs, and back. This Hercules chair seemed decent with good reviews...in the cart it went. Here's a few tips when unpacking and assembling any chair of this size. First, take your time. It ain't a race. Locate all your parts, spread them out and get all the packaging junk off them. Second, if you have your own tools...ditch the hex key. This chair uses a 5mm Hex bit. I used a ratcheting driver with the hex bit. Made everything so much easier. Lastly...use the box to assemble the chair off the floor. Look at my pics. My large carcass doesn't do well lumbering around the floor like a stranded walrus. Your knees, back, and self esteem will thank-you. On to the chair... It's big and beefy, just like us! Amble padding on the bottom, back, sides, and arms. The up/down and lock control works as it should. There is no play when the chair is locked in its upright position. When unlocked the chair has a nice, relaxed flow when arching back. Some chairs make you feel like you're going to tumble over backwards, not this once. It's being able to sit upright at my desk and type, like I am now, then slowly lean back to contemplate the meaning of life. The lumbar adjustment knob works well and you can feel the difference in the adjustments. The armrests are adjustable and easy to do. It seems like they move approximately 1/2" each click, so you can get your arms just right. I like my arms to just barely go above my desk for typing and other close in work. The padding isn't too thick or thin, feels just right to me, plus it's more dense than the chair bottom which is good for pointy elbows. Assembly was about 45 minutes. Instructions were clear, all the parts were intact, and no missing pieces or screws. Most importantly, how does this beast feel on my carcass? Plenty of cushion all the way around...back, buttocks, thighs, arms...everywhere. I'm usually working 8-10 hours daily, plus some weekends when my boss acts like an airhead. So far, no sore areas, no stiffness, and no numbness. I like how I can tilt all the way back with my feet off the floor and just relax. Fan me with a palm frond, feed me peeled grapes and I'll be in heaven! All-in-all, it's a heck of a chair. Very comfortable, easy to put together, and budget friendly. ... show more

  • Built Like A Tank
Color: Black Leathersoft
After my last chair broke ... 4 times ... I decided to spend a few bucks and get a better one. Enter the Hercules. What you need to know. * Assembly was extremely simple compared to other chairs (took about 5 minutes to put it together) * Every part of this chair is extremely high quality. * The metal parts are more than three times as thick as other chairs I have purchased * The padding is exceptional and very firm yet comfy * The leather (doubt it's real) is very soft, smooth, and supple. This chair is rated 400 lbs, I am < 300 and I can tell you this thing would easily handle 400 lbs. I sit at my computer 8-14 hours a day and I will say ... I have never looked forward to sitting in my desk chair each day until now. I highly, highly, VERY highly recommend this chair. ... show more

  • Fine Chair, but Poor Support and Gas Lift Cylinder Broke After 6 Months
Color: Black Leathersoft
When my work went totally remote due to Covid, I needed a much better chair for my home office. I am a big dude, so I needed a big chair that would be able to handle me for 12+ hours a day. I would echo many of the other reviews for the most part. The chair is big, beefy, and spacious—perfect for my big butt and thighs. That being said, the back support is definitely lacking and I had to buy a memory foam support pillow (which has worked well for me) and I've put a pillow on the seat for added cushioning. I noticed that I was getting some severe pain in my coccyx (yeah yeah, laugh it up!) after sitting on the chair for a few hrs, but fortunately the pillow has helped. For the most part, I was fine with these issues because this chair was a good price, I know I have some unique back and skeletal issues, and I wasn't expecting to sit on a cloud. That being said, the chair lift mechanism has stopped working over the past month or so. I will lift the seat to my preferred height, but will notice the chair sink 10-15 minutes later. I am well, well below the 400 lb. limit, so I know it's not a weight issue. I've noticed that, due to sitting at a lower height now, my ankles are pressing really hard on the floor and I have been experiencing some pain there now. Overall, this chair is perfectly fine. I wish the company could provide a lifting mechanism that actually supports the amount of weight they claim to support. If you weight over 300 lbs., you may want to consider something else. I think the 400 lb. limit is a bunch of mularkey. ... show more

  • Many disappointing things about this expensive chair
Color: Black Leathersoft
This chair was a huge disappointment, given it costs almost $400.00. I had high expectations which were unmet. PROS: 1. It's very heavy. I can believe it would hold a heavy/tall person. In fact it's so large it will hardly go through a standard doorway. 2. It's a nice looking chair. 3. It was fairly easy to put together. It comes with an Allen wrench which is all that's needed for assembly. CONS: 1. Once assembled, the back was tilted to one side, so much so that it was very obvious. There's no adjustment possible. 2. The chair arms are very hard, molded plastic and I found them uncomfortable at all heights. 3. I'm a short woman - 5'4" and my head extended a couple of inches beyond the top. That would mean for a tall man this would only be a mid-back height chair. 4. There's a tendency to slide forward and off the edge of the chair. This might not be everyone's experience, but it was mine. 5. The lumbar support was uncomfortable -to me - and the rocking mechanism was difficult to maintain a slight backward tilt. I was hesitant to order a chair without being able to sit in it first, but the office supply stores have low inventory leaving few options if one lives in a small rural town. I think Amazon should offer the 'try before you buy' for things like chairs as well as clothing. The 'fit' of a chair is as important as in shoes, I think. ... show more
