This little item works great, but it has a small caveat if you want its full functionality. As OBDII scanners go, this one does the job at a fraction of the price of a professional scanner. It shows all the information on the screen in an easy to set up software with an intuitive menu. Easy for even the least mechanically inclined people to use. However, you'll need a separate iPhone, iPad, or Android device to install the app onto. It color codes the issues as to their importance. Green means you should be fine and it's more of a suggestion than an issue, Yellow means check it out soon or have a mechanic take a look, Red means you should probably stop driving your car and set it on fire. Just kidding. But the information is displayed fully with the OBDII codes along with the explanations as to what they are. In my case, there was a Stored Code and a few Pending Codes. The Stored Code defined what the code is, however the Pending Codes showed 'Unknown Issue'. I had to go online later to look them up. There's also an option to clear the dash lights that did not work for me. So does the scanner work? Definitely. Is it worth it? Probably not, and here's why. The caveat I mentioned? You have to purchase their Premium version at a yearly fee of $99.00 if you want to unlock the scanner's full potential. It includes; "Cost and repair estimates from the Identifix database, Unlimited calls to our FIXD Mechanic Hotline for a trusted second opinion and DIY help from our network of ASE certified mechanics, And much more! FIXD Premium is a monthly subscription that is optional and is not required for use of the sensor." After the purchase price of $37, that makes this little bugger $137 right off the bat, with an additional $99/year after that. However, they do let you try it free for one week (cancel at any time). If you're using this scanner for multiple vehicles, and you're getting paid for it, then you might find the fee not so much of an inconvenience. However, if you're like me and are only using it on your daily driver, how often do you think you're going to use it to qualify that fee? I used it this once, found the codes, and now it'll probably sit on a shelf until the next time the need arises for it. And since I'm mechanically inclined, I can resolve the issues on my own. But, again, "the subscription is optional and is not required for use of the sensor." If you want a scanner that offers more functionality with no extra costs involved then purchase one of those instead. But if you're an average Joe or Jolene and you just want to see why your car has those dash lights always on, then this little guy does the job just fine. ... show more

For the price, this OBD2 scanner is excellent. It doesn’t provide all the “live data” that my mechanic’s $4,000 scan tool does… BUT it showed me codes that had not caused any of the dash lights to come on yet. This think saved me from buying a few different used vehicles that otherwise drove very nicely on the test drive, but had some upcoming MAJOR repairs that may have never really gone away. I would recommend scan the vehicle when you first start it, take it for a test drive, then scan it again after the test drive (before you turn the vehicle off). The app will tell you most of what you need to know about the codes that pop up. Sometimes it’s a code that is less common and you’ll get the code from the app and have to do some sleuthing to find out what that code means in that vehicle. Bottom line, if you want to save yourself from buying a used vehicle with underlying issues that will cost you lots of $$$ and headaches down the road, get this OBD2 scanner. ... show more

This product was easy to use and identified problems and solutions in the basic application. I liked it so much I bought one for my dad. If your on the go and the check engine light comes on you don’t have to find a parts store or shop to check the codes.

Was trying to get this to connect to a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Was told it should connect since the vehicle is newer than 1996 and gasoline powered. I was able to connect it to another vehicle, however, I bought to specifically connect to the Camaro. I was able to connect 3 other OBD scanners to my Camaro (Autel, Innova, Foxwell), but I needed the Fixd scanner to connect to be able to complete a Carvana sale. I spent the better part of a day trying to find out through the Fixd customer service if there was a compatibility issue with that particular vehicle/engine. I was given the run around about rebooting devices, uninstalling apps, removing sensors, etc. even though I proved the device would work on other vehicles. Even after repeatedly doing all of the tasks customer service recommended, nothing had changed. Customer service instead tried to sell me on their subscription based service of Fixd Premium. There was some techinical assistance offered over the phone, but they offered no value and seemed to not understand what steps had alredy been done, even though I told them what I had done, and lacked basic troubleshooting logic. Most of the technical assistance came over email, which after about 3 emails, they ignored and refused to return any messages. There are better OBD scanners out there and if for some reason your vehicle is incompatible with this one, you will just waste your time, money and efforts. ... show more

The check engine light came on in my truck & it was running rough. I remembered my wife bought me this tool a couple of years ago for Christmas; so, I got it out. After I found the tool, I downloaded the app to my iPhone, registered the device, and plugged it in under the dash to the OBD2 connection. I then started the truck, opened the app on my phone, registered the reader, & told it to run a scan. It told me that #7 cylinder was not firing & gave me several possible reasons for the misfiring, and even suggested the approximate cost to fix the problem. I had no problem with compatibility with my cell phone or my truck--it is great--& thought it was extremely easy to use. The portability is great because is small & easy to use. The app also played a video that showed how to check parts such as the ignition coil. Another thing is that, since I'm retired, I may not choose to do the work myself, but I feel more confident that I won't get lied to or taken to the cleaner for repair work. ... show more

Yet another company who chooses to use manipulative psychologic sales strategies to sell you a subscription that you feel is needed to make this product “worthwhile” Although they are truthfully selling a subscription service more-so then a device that actually does everything they promise, it does come with some fairly standard functions that you’ll be able to use. However, if you vehicle does not support a reading or measurement that is available within the device’s capabilities you simply cannot use it. This is mostly frustrating because i believe the price is mostly for the app you HAVE to download to even use to even access the features of this device, and without a subscription you get left with not much functionality. So to sum it up, you risk getting your data sold from an app you have to download to even have access to the devices features, have to make the initial purchase of the device itself to even use the app, but also get forced into the mindset of needing a subscription so that you can truly use the device for whats it capable of. AND probably the most upsetting aspect about of all it is that the subscription is (as of writing this review) 12.99 monthly or 99.99 yearly, 100 DOLLARS. IF you do buy this, you must understand that it will be costly to have all features available to you. I do not like being negative in life, or try to come across as a bad person due to speaking how i feel even if it seems of poor taste or stature, so something good thar i can say about all of it is that at least you have an app to look at instead of a standalone screen part of the reader, also the feature to have measurements active within the app to look at temps, RPM, or whatever you choose to display. ... show more

I have a 2013 avalanche and the engine light comes on quite often. When I’ve gone to find out the reason the engine light is on, it has cost me anywhere from $25-$200. My son recommended this diagnostic tool to me and I’m very satisfied. I am using the free version because I’m not a mechanic or a person who constantly works on cars. The scanner has proved to be very functional to use. When I want the warning light to go off, I can push a button and it is gone even though in some cases it does come back on within 5 to 10 minuts of restarting the vehicle. I have decided that I will never buy a car again that does not show exactly what the problem is when the engine light is activated. I have also noticed that when I come to a destination and and plan to turn off the engine, and it is hot or cold out, and the engine light is on my remote starting system will not work. As a result, before turning off the engine, I’ve reset the diagnostics and got rid of the engine light so that when I approach the car from a distance, I can use my remote to either cool it down or heat it up. ... show more
