I'm happy with the quality of this rack for the price. Fits on my 2010 Lexus RX 350 perfectly, and extends past the rails an inch or so on each side. The instructions are worthless, so read top review for instructions. You basically have to insert the key, turn key 90 degrees, pull the end out of the bar (with key inserted) a few inches, and then turn the end (with key still inserted) as a knob to tighten or loosen "grip" that goes on the rails. Once you have it tightened on the rail, you push the end of the bar back in, and return key to starting position to lock. ... show more

I couldn't really figure out the manual, I kid you not, but then realized if you open the lock, you can then use the pin connected to that lock to flip out the outer ring and then you use the long pin as the tool to loosen or tighten the grip thingy to the roof rack. Just keep turning the long pin till the mount is tightened enough and turn the lock section in the right position so it can close again. Put the outer ring back on and just simply click the lock in place and turn the key round to secure it. I have had my two kayaks on the roof of my subaru, the bars could easily handle the weight and the connectors easily fit my original roofrack. ... show more

The locking mechanism is held by a flexable steel piece that pulls out of the end very easily. There is no way to secure the bars on the roof rack without it potentially coming apart in transport. I am returning to Amazon!
