The Fisher F44 metal detector is an excellent unit for finding coins as it is designed to do this with very good results. It is basically a turn on and go detector. It is a very light-weight detector at just a little over 2lb-3oz. the newer DD coil is a big improvement over the old concentric one. I've found coins up to ten inches deep and the meter is very accurate. I took the 5 inch goldbug pro coil and put it on the F44 and it worked just fine and produced about the same results as the11 inch DD, and that knocked off another 3or 4 ounces, so in closing I would recommend this detector for beginners and advance detectorist alike, as for the money it's a very stable and lite weight unit and it won't bankrupt you or wear you out like some of the expensive heavy weight tanks out there.. We bought a cheaper detector at first and quickly returned it within the hour. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on this one! I researched a lot of them and we’re not disappointed in this one! There’s a YouTube video/review that helps to understand it if you need. We’re still learning how to properly use it but it works great! ... show more

I am very disappointed in this Fisher F44, I have been detecting for years and I own two other fisher detectors, this F44 ranks last. This review is in no way a reflection on the seller. I received a new unopened F44 as ordered. When I compare this F44 to an F75 they are worlds apart in ability. You might say well that isn't fair I am comparing to one of the best Fisher models...Well when compare to a Fisher F4 which is an discontinued model that most would call a beginner detector the F44 falls flat on its face. The F4 is soooo much better in every category except F4 has no backlight. I used an 11"DD search coil on all three. This F44 is junk. I can't believe I'm giving it three stars it should probably be a one or a two but I just feel bad by going any lower than the three. ... show more

    • Not what I thought I was getting.
Weather proof to me means I can use it in a torrential downpour. One of the first things you’ll see is a warning not to get the upper display wet. Or around the upper cable connection. Not real happy as my intended use is during all weather scenarios.
