  • From Rats to Riches
Wow! What a story. What a life. Viola Davis is a fighter. I'm glad she never gave up. She's an amazing actress and after reading about her tumultuous and harrowing childhood, I have mad respect for her. As a child, I was also horrifically abused and I also became an actress, so I was able to relate to her story on so many levels. I was surprised at how things turned out with her father in the end. What a read! What a ride! ... show more

  • The Black Girls Bible
This autobiography was gripping from the start and well written. It was hard for me to put it down. If you are a black woman trying to find yourself in a world that has tried to oppress our essence. Viola will in a quiet but powerful way take you on her journey to self which will also heal your inner wounds. Thank you Viola for your authenticity and transparency. ... show more

  • A powerful life
I was completely captivated from the first lines of this memoir. A life of poverty so well described as to be painful. This is a story of a struggle so difficult and of a will so tenacious to succeed that her power carried her forward. I felt that I was on the journey with her. This is a great read.

  • i was sad it was over
Sad, but triumphant life story. It felt like I was talking to a best friend. Candid and at times brutal - revealing in ways that scares the hell out of so many people. It just felt honest.

This book was phenomenal! A must read. Viola's life story is so sad and gratifying at the same time. She was very authentic and encouraging. • The first sentence grabs you by the heart!
Prepare to be captivated, inspired, and profoundly moved by Viola Davis's remarkable memoir, FINDING ME. This book is an absolute tour de force, taking readers on an unforgettable journey of self-discovery, resilience, and triumph. From the very first page, Davis's eloquent and raw storytelling grips your heart and refuses to let go. Her words dance off the page, painting vivid pictures of her experiences and emotions, making you feel like you're right there beside her, sharing in her triumphs and tribulations. FINDING ME is so much more than a celebrity memoir. It transcends fame and Hollywood, delving deep into the core of humanity and the universal quest for identity and belonging. Davis fearlessly opens up about her childhood in poverty, her struggles with racism and discrimination, and the challenges she faced on her path to success. Through her candid revelations, she sheds light on the larger issues of social injustice, racial inequality, and the power dynamics that persist in our society. What truly sets this memoir apart is Davis's unyielding authenticity. Her honesty is a breath of fresh air in an age of carefully curated facades. She lays bare her insecurities, her fears, and her vulnerabilities, proving that strength and vulnerability can coexist harmoniously. It's a reminder to us all that our scars are not something to be hidden but to be embraced, for they shape us into the individuals we are today. But beyond the hardships, FINDING ME is also a story of hope, resilience, and the transformative power of passion. Davis's unwavering determination to make her mark in the acting world is awe-inspiring. She breaks barriers and defies the odds, carving out her own space in an industry that often underrepresents and undervalues people of color. Her journey serves as a powerful testament to the importance of never giving up on one's dreams. Reading this memoir is like having a front-row seat to the transformation of a remarkable woman. Davis's profound insights and wisdom peppered throughout the book leave an indelible impact on the reader's mind and heart. She encourages us to embrace our true selves, to find our voices, and to stand tall in the face of adversity. Her words resonate long after the last page is turned, echoing the power of self-love, self-acceptance, and the pursuit of our passions. In FINDING ME, Viola Davis has given us a gift—a gift of vulnerability, courage, and inspiration. This book is a beacon of light for anyone navigating the complexities of identity, society, or personal growth. Whether you're a fan of Davis's acting or simply someone in search of a transformative memoir, this is a must-read.
