  • FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE - Nintendo Switch 2
A Breathtaking, Portable Reimagining of a Timeless Classic. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2 is a monumental achievement, taking one of the most beloved RPGs of all time and translating it into a portable experience that still delivers on all the spectacle, emotion, and depth of the original release. From the opening scenes in Midgar, the game immerses you in a world that is simultaneously familiar and breathtakingly reimagined — a sprawling city alive with detail, characters with genuine personality, and a story that resonates as strongly today as it did decades ago. The narrative remains the true heart of the experience. The story of Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and the rest of the cast is emotionally charged, perfectly balancing personal character arcs with high-stakes, city-wide threats. Episode INTERmission, featuring Yuffie, adds meaningful content that enriches the Midgar experience, offering new perspectives, characters, and combat scenarios. It feels like a natural extension of the main story, giving players even more reason to explore every corner of this meticulously crafted world. Combat is another standout element. The hybrid system of real-time action and strategic command inputs creates battles that feel fluid, exciting, and deeply satisfying. Each fight, from standard encounters to massive bosses, demands attention and rewards thoughtful play. The inclusion of character-specific abilities, weapon skills, and Limit Breaks adds variety and ensures that combat never feels repetitive. On Switch 2, the responsiveness of the controls remains excellent, and the gameplay translates seamlessly to both docked and handheld modes. Visually, the game is a triumph for a portable system. Character models are detailed and expressive, environments are richly textured, and lighting effects bring Midgar’s industrial sprawl to life. While the game runs at a steady 30fps rather than 60fps, it still feels smooth and cinematic, and the Switch 2’s screen makes the visual presentation surprisingly vibrant. Even areas with high enemy density or environmental detail maintain clarity, and the overall polish of the game is evident in every scene. The audio design complements the visuals perfectly. The orchestral soundtrack is as stirring as ever, enhancing both the quieter emotional beats and the intense combat sequences. Voice acting remains top-notch, bringing the characters to life in a way that makes their struggles and triumphs feel real. The combination of music, voice work, and sound effects creates an immersive atmosphere that draws you in from start to finish. Of course, there are minor compromises. Some textures in densely populated or cluttered areas are less sharp than on more powerful platforms, and the overall file size is significant, requiring ample storage space. However, these minor limitations never diminish the overall experience or the emotional impact of the story. In summary, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2 is a masterclass in adaptation. It perfectly balances portability with visual fidelity, deep storytelling, and thrilling combat. Both longtime fans and newcomers will find plenty to love, and the additional content in Episode INTERmission ensures there’s even more to explore. This is not just a port — it’s a celebration of one of gaming’s most iconic stories, now accessible anywhere. For its ambition, polish, and sheer emotional power, it easily earns a full 5-star rating. ... show more

  • Unbelievable
This is, without question, one of the most impressive games I’ve ever played on the Switch—and honestly one of the most impressive gaming experiences I’ve had in years. The visuals, storytelling, and gameplay are all absolutely top-tier. Playing this in 4K is genuinely stunning and almost hard to believe coming from a Switch port. Yes, it’s locked at 30 FPS while docked, but it truly does not matter. The gameplay is buttery smooth, and that’s coming from a heavy PC gamer running a 9070 XT. It never once feels sluggish or compromised. The story completely consumed my entire weekend. This game is a straight-up gem—do not wait to buy it. The quality of this port is unbelievable, especially when paired with how sharp and detailed everything looks in 4K. I’m already itching to see how the story ends, and I keep thinking about it even when I’m not playing. ... show more

  • Stunning remake
Absolutely amazing remake, and I’m shocked at how good this looks and plays while in portable mode. This is even more stunning in docked mode. A perfect way to play this game in the modern era!

  • Simply AMAZING.
I’m the first person who is against 30 FPS games but this game is AMAZING. FF7 plays without a stutter and the graphics are clear with zero blur on handheld mode. The quality of this port is masterpiece. Pay the 40$ and enjoy this wonderful title.

  • Great Modern Game - but NOT Final Fantasy VII
My review is Spoiler-Free. Sorry it's so long, I haven't reviewed anything I cared about recently. I bought this game to replay Final Fantasy VII for the first time in over twenty years. This game isn't Final Fantasy VII, at all. This will be obvious to anyone who played the original within ten minutes. The cutscenes, music, voice acting, graphics, and polish are incredible. The entire game has been rebuilt on a modern FF engine. The price is extremely fair, I bought two copies at retail. My sister loves Magic: The Gathering, and the Booster Packs were a nice collector's bonus to sweeten the deal. The game gives you bonus unlocks and compelling Gameshark-esque optional abilities for the modern attention-and-time-deprived gamer. You could play the story in God Mode if you really want to, with other fun possibilities like Infinite Limit Breaks, HP, or MP. I don't keep up with the myriad releases Square-Enix has done in the FF series over the last 15 years. For me, Final Fantasy ended after FFX when they thought I wanted to make dresses for Yuna in FFXII. I got oversaturated when they made handheld spin-offs, fighting games, Kingdom Hearts cameos, shooters, and Crisis Core prequels. Still, in the hearts of many old school fans, the prophecy of the One True FFVII Remake persisted, across PS3, PS4, and into this gen. I guess this is the closest Nintendo version of the PS5 remake of the PS4 remake that itself was only 1/3 of the planned remake of the original. The problem remains, this is not Final Fantasy VII. When I played the Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom wrote an entire new engine for the game, complete with online leaderboards, unlocks, extended cutscenes, etc. But... and this is my key point - the gameplay was 100% authentic to the original. Same Leon Kennedy, unstoppable kick, sometimes-flawed over-the-shoulder camera, briefcase, save system, items, gunplay, combat, annoying sidekicks, etc. You could tell they wanted to remove all frustration and friction to telling the story well, while preserving absolutely everything else. In this game, nothing is the same. They've thrown the baby out with the bathwater. We're fighting in a goofball real-time Zelda meets Devil May Cry modern take. It feels like comparing the swordplay in an Elder Scrolls game to Soulcalibur or Assassin's Creed. Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, & 10 represent the pinnacle of classic JPRGs. Square-Enix had a monopoly on the market when these games landed, dominating 1997-2007. The market agrees with me - those four games passed 50 Million unit sales, FF 11-16 sold under 35 million. I've heard all the excuses - no one wants 80 hour turn-based games after smartphones, studios can't afford 200 hour RPGs, development times are too long, blah blah blah. Yet, mysteriously, Pokemon sells over 10 million with every release despite being "limited" to turn-based combat, although Z-A has now turned into button-mashing real-time that could sink that franchise too. To be clear, I love fast-paced games. GTA, Red Dead Redemption, God of War, Doom, Street Fighter, CoD, online esports FPS, Formula One, etc. I'm a millennial, I cut my teeth on Super Mario, Contra, Super Metroid, and Metal Gear Solid. Many play Fallout in real time, some focus on Perception and V.A.T.S. Both styles are fun, and awesome. Final Fantasy VII has (had?) a complex, deeply-satisfying Materia/Junction system that required planning, strategy, and sharing limited resources across your party. Combat was tough, and rewarded teamwork. Many felt this was the last true peak of Magic mattering in the FF series, as FF8 seemed to incentivize never actually using spells since they were bound to your core stats. If you needed a moment to think while you were fighting Ruby or Emerald Weapon, you had it. But you could power through random mobs in near real-time on your quest. Ranged, melee, and magic characters felt different, which encouraged natural diversity and strategy. That's gone now. Every character feels the same, and while there's tons of fan service, wonderful graphics, cutscenes, and the story itself never looked better, this is something else entirely that's just not for me. I don't want Super Smash Bros. as an RPG, especially THE RPG. And I think that's what makes old school fans so annoyed about these releases. We used to have fierce debates about FF7 vs. Ocarina of Time. A kid's entire Christmas could hinge on making the right choice, no one wanted to make a Sega Saturn mistake. Who is this game for? I think it must be collectors who will never actually load the game, but love the familiarity and nostalgia of seeing Cloud with a giant Buster sword reunited with Nintendo on the cover after being kept apart so long. While that's cool on its own, I would have paid twice as much and really played a true remake. For now, FFVII rests with Sméagol. ... show more
